anybody preparing for HCS or IAS. please help me in preparing for it by giving valuable suggestions regarding which subjects to opt for, how to get started etc. i have done BSc (general with botany, zoology and chemistry) postgraduate in food technology and pursuing Ph.D in the same.

Vandana Ji,
Already, there are some threads and post about the suggestion sfor IAS/HCS preparation. You can search them and can find the valuable suggestions.

i have already gone through these threads but i m little confused how to select the subjects and a guidance from friends is always appreciated.

I would suggest to go with the subjects that you were having during your graduation. Botany & Zoology would be a good combinationa as Food Technology is not a subject in Civil Services. A few books like "Constitution of India" by D D Basu, "Freedom Strugle: independence movement of India" By Vipin Chandra (I guess the name is this), Yojna magazine, A gerenal by name "India 2011" for this year are really good. There is one more book "What Civil Servies are all about" by Pervez Dewan. These are just for the start up.
