People need to realise that society is not an outgrowth of law, rather
law is an outgrowth of society.
What does law represent ? In its simplest form it is merely the set of rules
that govern the way of life and dealings that are commonly acceptable
as common sense to the average (common) citizen. No more and no less.
It represents the organisation of a society, and is merely a reflection
of it. It is not there to alter us, but is there to guide us to abide
by commonly acceptable protocols. It can't do more than that. It
won't alter who we are and how we think.
So, if society hasn't come to accept the female child as desirable
and equal to the male child, than no law can do much. It will be
impotent for all real purposes.
We already have laws agains sex determination, against dowry, against
casteism and so on. But since the underlying social mores have not changed,
the law is merely a mute, deaf and blind spectator.
Once underlying society changes, it is then that these laws will become
effectual.

Respected members,
Raj uncle has hit the nail in the head. We need to start respecting women by:
1. Treating with respect they deserve.
2. NOT TO GIVE THEM PARTIAL TREATMENT vis a vis a male child from very birth.
3. give them proper education.
4. Not taking them as burdon.
5. stop demanding dowry
6. Show respect to her gender and not treat her as a Sex object.
7. Let her breath free.
Having done that no law is required and i am sure that no body will kill their daughters. It is the fears associted with the growing ups, marriage expenditures [unwanted demandes from groom], her security from day one of her birth[as girls as young as 1 month old are being raped in this country] and then her adjustmant related ordeals after marriage that compell people to say no to a girl child. As said by Raj uncle it is a social problem and needs to be tackled as such. Let the girls stant tall and firm.
