Railway Goods Freight and Passenger Fares Raised

To early to say price hike is justfied or not, give the new govt some time, if services and infrastructure gets better then there is no harm of such moves.

Most of daily passengers are either pass holders or they travel without tickets, how much it is going to impact the poors is another thing to look for.

Moreover I personally feel if need better services in Railways, privatization is one good option.

It might be about vote bank politics for UPA/NDA, but if things are to be made better some bitter decisions need to be taken.

Those who are saying that NDA cried foul when hikes were made by UPA and not they are doing same, pls note the bad UPA had done in last 10 years needs to be wiped out and for that we need Money, UPA ne kuch chd ae na rakha.

I would say please wait for atleast an year and then evaluate the performance of the govt.

The timing chosen for fare and freight hike on the eve of Budget session seems to be inappropriate.

Timing is right and well planned, railway budget is due to be announced on July 8 and yearly bugdet on July 10. It gives people some time to get use to the required hikes in various areas to revive the economy.

What does parliament has to do with fare raise? It's an administrative decision.

There is nothing wrong in administrative decision implementation. But the hike is quite substantial and if administration is empowered to take such important policy decision without going to parliament, it seems drastic step.

More so after assuming power by a new party, its policies and programmes reflect them through implementation of administrative decisions. Moreover, since the budget session of parliament is due to commence shortly, it would have been better if the hike would have come about through railway budget passed by parliament.

When did you hear last time any Indian filing bankruptcy? You live in USA where its a routine matter. Affording Pizza can not be the benchmark. India has large number of poors simply because poor can still live here. Other countries don't have poor simply because poor can not survive there. Can you get your shoe repaired in USA ? can you get a shirt altered in USA or Europe ? India is not USA or Europe. It took life time for me to understand India. Hope you know how an average American lives his entire life on credit card and pays loans all through his life. Tell me how many Americans can afford to send their child to university and pay for his fees and expenses?
