Ranking of world universities.

Times Higher Education has just released its 2013 rankings of the world's universities. In the physical sciences, Caltech is first, followed by UC Berkeley, Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, Cambridge, MIT, Chicago, UCLA and Oxford.

Anyone from India in top 100 ?

The ranking that i posted about, reflects only 'physical sciences' branches. It shows U.S is leading in research and innovation through promotion of education among all countries, in areas such as physics, material sciences, geology etc.

The Punjab University ranking and IIT ranking perhaps takes into consideration all branches of studies.

That is true....The Punjab University ranking and IIT ranking perhaps takes into consideration all branches of studies. Nil in Physical sciences. However the ranking methodology considers 13 performance indicators, which are grouped into five areas i.e

View attachment 16872But the Research: i.e.(volume, income and reputation and Citations: (research influence) are major culprit in ranking. Each has 30% weight age. The citations is a big goof-up parameters for Indian research is concern. I do feel, if India want to improve its rankings there is a need to change in basic mindset of society apart from other important issues. Normally, we don't have habit to praise or acknowledge the local research, our own peoples, scholars, researchers.... , as we mostly believe outside references.

First thing is needed , we have practice that while publishing a research paper,50% references MUST be given from Indian or local research ... Hope things may improve in future...

This is an eye opener survey about the condition of the institutions of higher education throughout the world and we the Indians taking a timely warning from the same must ponder over it to further improve out universities and other institutions.

कड़वा सच है: आधे से अधिक प्राथमिक विद्यालयों में कोई भी शैक्षणिक गतिविधि और उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों में कोई भी शोध नहीं होता है.

अगर देखा जाये तो भारतीय विश्वविद्यालय के उच्च स्तर का न होना या हमारी शोध का केवल ३ प्रतिशत ही होने का सिर्फ एक ही कारण है और वो आप सब लोग भी अच्छी तरह से जानते हैं . सबसे पहले तो हमारी शिक्षा प्रणाली ही अपनी नहीं है ये उस लार्ड मैकाले कि देन है जिसने ये कहा था कि अगर किसी देश को जीतना है तो सबसे पहले उसकी मानसिकता को ही बदल डालो और आज भी वही हो रहा है अपने देश में .मेरा इस से ये तात्पर्य नही है कि पश्चिमी शिक्षा या सभ्यता निकृष्ट है और अपनी भारतीय सभ्यता या संस्कृति उच्च है लेकिन इसमें को शक नहीं है कि विशव कि सभी सभ्यताओं कि जननी भारतीय सभ्यता ही है. जब हम अपनी ही सिक्षा प्रणाली को छोड़ कर पश्चिमी शिक्षा प्रणाली कि और भाग रहे है तो किसी भी स्तर पर हम उनसे आगे नहीं जा सकते क्यूंकि वो लोग अपनी मातृभाषा में ही सब कुछ संपन्न करते हैं और हमारे यहाँ ऐसा कुछ नहीं है.बच्चे के पैदा होते ही उसे abcd सिखाने के लिए कायदा दे दिया जाता है लेकिन हम ये नहीं समझते कि जब हम मूल रूप से सब कुछ अपनी मातृभाषा हिंदी में ही संपन्न करते है तो उस abcd का कोई औचित्य नहीं रह जाता. हम अपने बच्चों पर उस abcd को ऐसे थोप देते हैं कि बेटा ये तो एक ऐसा क्रिया कर्म है कि इसके बिना तो तुम्हारा जीवन निरर्थक है. तुम संसार में इसके बिना तो आगे बढ़ने से रहे. बशर्ते कि अंग्रेजी दुनिया में आज आदान परदान का सबसे बड़ा साधन है लेकिन आप दुनिया के किसी भी एक ऐसे देश का इतिहास उठा के देख लो जो अपनी मातृभाषा के बिना उजड़ गया हो या बर्बाद हो गया हो आप को ऐसा कोई भी उदाहरण नहीं मिलेगा सिर्फ एक हिंदुस्तान को छोड़कर. दुनिया हमारी ताकत (शिक्षा) का लोहा मानती है लेकिन उशी लोहे को हम इस्तेमाल करना ही नहीं जानते.कोई नयी कला सीखने में बुराइ नहीं है अपितु उसके वशीभूत होना भी ठीक नहीं है अब जरा शोध कि बात को निपटा ही देते हैं , यह सच्चाई कि दुनिया में होने वाले शोध कार्यों में भारतीयों का प्रतिशत सिर्फ ३ प्रतिशत से भी कम है. सबसे पहले तो भाषा कि समस्या ही इतनी विकराल है कि यहि नही संभलती दूसरा हमारा सिस्टम ही कुछ ऐसा है कि इसके लिए अपने देश में तो कोइ पुछने से रहातीसरा हम अपना मूल (जड़) इसमें शमिल् नहीं करते.एक बात बिलकुल सच है कि जब हम कोई भी काम या वार्तालाप अपनी मूल शैली में ही संपन्न करेंगे तो हमें खुद भी अत्यंत हर्ष होगा और दूसरों से भी ख़ुशी मिलेगी कृप्या करके मेरी बात को अन्यथा न ले और खुद आजमा कर देखें.
 
टॉप 100 को तो भूल ही जाइए। इस साल कोई भी इंडियन एजुकेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट टाइम्स हायर एजुकेशन मैगजीन की 2014 की वर्ल्ड रेपुटेशन रैंकिंग में दुनिया की सबसे प्रतिष्ठित 200 यूनिवर्सिटीज में भी जगह नहीं बना पाया है।
