History of Saran clan: Bhartha Saran

[wiki]Bhartha Saran[/wiki] was a Jat ruler of Jangladesh region in Rajasthan prior to formation of Bikaner princely state of Rathores. Ramsisar Bhedwaliya village in Sardarshahar tehsil of Churu district of Rajasthan was founded by Bhartha Saran.[1]

History of Dudi clan - Gaja Dudi

[wiki]Gajsar[/wiki] (गाजसर) is a village in Churu tehsil of Churu district of Rajasthan. Gajsar was founded by [wiki]Gaja Dudi[/wiki] in year 568 AD. All Dudis are said to be migrated from Gajsar.

[Laxman Ram Mahla - Uddeshya: Sarv Samaj Baudhik evam Pratibha Samman Samaroh Churu, Smarika, June 2013, by Jat Kirti Sansthan Churu,p.189]

History of Chahar clan

Jat clan name "Hundal"

IF we do sandhi vichhedh of Jat family name "Hundal" it becomes Hun + Dal. Huns again seem to be from the same origin as discussed before and Dal means "Group". In exact translation it becomes "Dal of Huns" or "Group of Huns".

If so then what will say of this;

Any relations between our hundals and their hundals? Does "dal" still mean "group" if we take British version of the surname?

Kudos to your general knowledge ! By the same logic, do Jat gotras Hunga (हुंगा), Hunjan (हुंजन) and Hunsawat (हुंसावत) also originate from Huns, since these words begin with English spelling 'Hun'? Or does every word starting with 'hun' has some connection with barbaric Huns?

Hundal (हुंडळ) gotra is believed to be one of gotras belonging to Suryavanshi group? You mean Suryavansh also started at the time of Hun invasion? And did English language (Roman script) exist in India when Huns came here?

Most of the or rather all of the European language are called "Indo European Languages" therefore there are lot of root words which sound similar, there is nothing "English or Roman" about them. The root words are either similar or are spoken almost similar based on their local accent. Now the context of "Indo European is not restricted to today´s boundaries of India" as in ancient times "Bharat" as most Indians call it had very bigger area.

As per "Survavanshi" and "Chandravanshi" concept, if i remember correctly, these words related with the way of life led by people, most agricultural people in ancient times were heavily dependent on "sun" for their agriculture, so they connected themselves with the "Sun" whereas the people who led a nomadic and life of animal grazing were connected with "moon" for their herd migration. This can be seen in case of people grazing their animals in deserts, they usually migrate their animals to a newer grazing area during the night time as during the day it is very hot.

We must also learn to differentiate between "Generic words" and "absolute words". Lot of "Jat" family names derive their origin from a singular family member from whom the family started, these are more "absolute family names.
Whereas there are family names which are more "Generic" in nature such as "Huns", "Huns" is a broad concept which can not be connected to only one family name, rather there seem to lot of family names deriving their origin from Huns.

On the other hand "Hundal" which is purely a "Jat" clan name seems to refer to a generic identity of "Huns". Hun + dal. This family name can also mean that people who are not writing their family names associated with "Generic family name, Hun" also come from "Hunnic" tribes. So in other words the "dal of huns" will also include people who do not have any sound of "Hun" in their family names. Or in other words they all are "Huns" irrespective of having the word "Hun" in their family names.

Hun is a "generic word" and can not be connected to one community, whereas "Hundal" seems to refer/indicate to "dal of Huns" or "group of Huns" which in this case can also mean "Jats", it is a similar case as that of "chauhan" "chau (four) + han", "duhan "du(two) + han", "trihan tri(three) +han" and so on.

The meaning you state might be of newer origin then the word "Hundal" iteself. As most "Jat" clans trace their ancesstory many hundreads of years before christ, so the origins of the word might be present more in the language itself rather then the place as referred in your stated text. On the other hand it is very probable that these people migrated to the "said" area at certain point of time in history or the area was named after them when they moved to that area.

Understanding the word "Hoon" or "Hun"

Lot of people write family names connected with "Hun" or "Hoon" or as said in some other local dialect. It does not mean that they are the sole owners of "Hunnic" clan. Rather, looking back in history, "Huns" were central asian nomadic people. There could have been many different sub clans or sub family names of "Huns". Such sub clans or sub family names might not be having word "Hun" in them.

Which bigger tribe "Huns" belonged to? seems to discovered. The name "Hundal", "Hun+ dal" or " dal of huns" a "Jat family clan" name seems to suggest that "Jats" could have been that bigger ancient tribe which comprised of several different "Hunnish" tribes. These "Hunnish" family names may or may not have "Hun" as their family names.

The family names that have word "Hun" are very generic in nature as the word "Hun" itself does not refer to one person who started the family, rather the word "Hun" refers to a bigger "Hunnish" tribe.

All the other " Jat family names" that u speak of "Hunga (हुंगा), Hunjan (हुंजन) and Hunsawat (हुंसावत) " have the word "Hun" in them, so it is probable that they derive their origin from "Huns", again i must say, that all the family names having "Hun" in their family names, does not mean are the only decedents of "Huns". Huns were a very big tribe and a very "generic word" which referred to many different tribes combined together, therefore, it is very probable that lot of family names who do not have "Hun" as their family name are also from the "Hunnish" origin.
On the other hand "Hundal" seems to be again of bigger notation referring to certain tribe of people having some ancient origins. "Hundal" seems to referrer to a superset or various subsets.

The sane comments on the issue must serve as eye openers to all of us who are trying to find short cuts to understand the complicated issue of the origin of the castes and gotras!

Based on "Hundal" family name all the Jats seem to be from "Hunnish tribes" or "Dals of Hun" or "Tribes of Huns".

If we locate middle east family names, we will find the migration of these family names from Siberia. Jats are one major group of people whose family names are also found in middle east and there is pure evidence of migration of ancient central asian tribes from siberia and central asia to middle east. Therefore, it is probable that these were the same tribes moving into different lands at different time periods.

If one goes by your hypothesis, "Hungary" should be taken as a country of hoons by every possible logic (hungary= hunon ki nagari). In that case Hungary should have a large number of Jat gotra people. Have a look at this and find for yourself if this is the case.

U can search "Malik + Hungary", u will find some original Hungarians, there are lot of such family names spread all across Europe and these tribal migrations happened at different time periods and in form of different groups.

Then there is a point of language, migrating people also pick up new names to adopt to a culture and so on. Still some fragments of that ancient past still remains with them that can be easily discovered.
