Govt in Hurry to grant reservations to Jats in Central Government...

Nobody needs to teach the UPA Government to fish in troubled waters. After taking a nonchalant position on the recent communal clashes in Uttar Pradesh where Muslims and Jats killed each other taking the death toll to 47, the political leadership of the UPA Government has decided to do what it is good at—appeasement. In principle, it decided to grant reservations to Jats in Central Government services and has asked the National Commission for Backward Castes (NCBC) to create a blue print for this.
It is learnt that the Government is planning to give blanket reservation to all Jats—Hindu, Muslim and Sikh Jats—in one go so that everyone is happy.
“No Government can afford the ill will of Jats in an election year as they are both monetarily and numerically powerful. The decision to give reservation to all is a good strategy as it could appease both Hindu and Muslim Jats,’’ said a government source.
Interestingly, the NCBC had earlier opposed such a move on the grounds that Jats are a landed class, which does not need external governmental support. Ruling out the requirement for reservation in Central Government services, the NCBC had pointed out that various state governments are already giving reservations to Jats where they are considered eligible for affirmative action. But the UPA feels that it is prudent to soothe Jat tempers at the earliest by applying the reservation balm, since it fears that Hindu Jats are steadily shifting their sympathy to the BJP. The Jats, who number around 10 crore, are electorally crucial in various states, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. This explains the urgency with which the Centre is pushing the matter.
“We have been told to have a ‘re-look’ at our stated position on Jats reservation even as a survey to assess the socio- economic status of Jats is on,’’ said an official with the NCBC.
According to him, the NCBC had already assigned the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) to study the socio-economic conditions of Jats in UP, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana.
The survey started in August, 2013 after the Jat Mahasabha in July, which was addressed by Ajit Singh.

The UPA Government has decided to grant reservations to Jats in Central Government services and has asked the National Commission for Backward Castes (NCBC) to create a blue print for this.

The NCBC had already assigned the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) to study the socio-economic conditions of Jats in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana. The survey started in August after the Jat Mahasabha in July, which was addressed by Ajit Singh. The deadline for completion was January 2014. Since the results have been delayed, the NCBC is under pressure to expedite the matter. According to the official, with elections a few months away, the government seems to be in a hurry now.
“We had conveyed to the Government that NCBC has no vested interest in the subject and had earlier made recommendations against Jat reservation on the basis of existing data. We also had told the Government that we will take a call once the ICSSR study is finalised. But now the Government wants us to sign on the dotted line,’’ said the official.
According to him, even though the ICSSR has just started its study, the government has already set up a GoM to take a call on the likely recommendation of the NCBC on the issue of Jat reservation. “It is ridiculous to say the least. Why was the GoM, headed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, set up when the survey is inconclusive and we are yet to analyse it?’’ asked the official.
The PM had set up the GoM towards the end of last month amidst IB reports warning of communal clashes in UP. The other members of the GoM include Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kumari Selja and Minister of State for Personnel V Narayansamy.
When contacted, a Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment official said that the GoM was set up in haste as the Jat agitators needed to be updated on the ongoing survey.
But he preferred not to answer the question whether a GoM headed by the finance minister is needed to do follow-ups on a routine survey. The answer to the question, in fact, lies with Civil Aviation Minister and RLD leader Ajit Singh. He has apparently threatened to leave the government if it does not take a positive decision on the matter. The RLD would be the biggest loser if Jat votes get segregated on communal lines and has, hence, mooted the idea of blanket reservation. The Jat Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti, a body lobbying for the reservation with Ajit Singh’s support, had recently threatened to launch an agitation in Delhi if their long-standing demand for 27 per cent reservation in the OBC quota is not met.

It seems we are underestimating other castes .

its not underestimation but the bitter truth.....other castes representation is there in all over army but there have been a big consipracy on it.....the one who take the front on crucial moments have been the Jats, Jat regiment....all war history is testimony to this.....

And if to see it from today perspective, have look on the lowest rank Fauji level bharti, you shall hardly find any from the castes raised in my previous post.....if they go to defence services then it is directly for bigger posts....that is why I said that they should share it with lowest rank personell in defences that is Fauji level......

Even a big conspiracy in army when it comes to promotion and leadership.....I don't need to elaborate on it, as most of us are enough aware of it.....

You know its more about their sharing in "D" and "C" grade jobs in defence, they prefer to be in office cubical jobs of "A" and "B" grades in defence and not only in defence, look at civil job share too......and try to find in what ratio they are in "C" and "D" grade jobs of civil sector. How many of above are found even applying (forget about getting selected and recruited) in "Police Constable" level posts? Hardly any appaudable figure, you shall get....

So my slogan is let them get their share in "C" as well as "D" grade jobs througout job domains and sectors....so this slogan may be kept as the way it is or if to modify, it may have something like this too, "let them have the reservation in "C" and "D" grade jobs like "Beldar", "Staff Driver", "Police constable" and ask for our share in "A" and "B" grade jobs.....

Phool bhai,

Sorry, I don't agree to this.

No community stops jats from competiting for A, B posts. Infact many jats crack A, B posts as well.

Also, if one community has the potential to crack A, B jobs, why should they bother about getting into C, D jobs.

We should better think beyond fauj & police, like other communities. It shouldn't be hardcoded into our young childrens ki tanne bhi apne tau ki tareh hi fauj me bharti ho ke dikhana hai... daud-daad marya kar tadke saanjh....ghee doodh khaya piya kar..
..Instead tanne bhi falane uncle ke bete ki tareh IAS fodna hai....Falane uncle ke bete ki tareh Bank PO fodna hai.... NET clear karna hai..CTET fodna hai... falane uncle ke bete ki tareh apni travel agency kholnihai.. .etc etc...padhai karr dabbke shabbash... le.. doodh-badaam khaya kar.

Point here is to smarten up, put real hard work and it pays off some good day.

ye saari jaatiya maine defence me dekhi hain (google karoge to aapko bhi dikh jayegi)..haan par wo officer entry ke papper fod ke aate hain...

par isme hame khijna nahi chahiye, ki wo "sipahi "kyun nahi bharti hotte... na aate bhai aagle.. kyun aana se...us raste te...

Brother Satinder, if I am not wrong aap bhi Jat reservation ke kattar supporter hain, right?

And itna to aap bhi jante hain ki, Jat reservation "A" and "B" grade jobs ke liye jyada li ja rahi hai "C" and "D" ke liye kam, aur vaise bhi "C" and "D" mein Jats ka adhipaty vaise hi hai.....so bro baat stops ki nahin hai, baat un bhaiyon ki hain jo "A" and "B" grade ke tests clear karne ke baawjood bhi bina koi protection valve ke hue, peechhe dhakel diye jaate hain, fir wo chaahe initial selection process ho ya fir promotion...

As per once upon a time rule defined by Mulayam Singh yadav when he was defence minister, no. of Jats in Jat regiment was reduced to 20% only, whereas initially it was 40% a minimum.....so you can assume afterward kitne jats honge jat regiment mein....

Phool Bhai,

Do you have any stats on how many Jats are there in Jat Regiment, vis-a-vis others?

Brother maine yahaan percentage define nahin kari hai ki kaum kitna hai but ek cheej for sure hai ki desh ke liye wars mein shaheed hone waalon mein Jats 50% hote aaye hain.....so bro agar 50% MPs ke saath government ki majority prove ho govt. ban jaya karti hain to I can say ki Jats has the reservation in deshbhakti too....

ye saari jaatiya maine defence me dekhi hain (google karoge to aapko bhi dikh jayegi)..haan par wo officer entry ke papper fod ke aate hain...

Reservation to Jats in central jobs proposal fast-tracked

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections early next year, the government has decided to fast-track its proposal to provide reservation to Jats in central jobs in the category of other backward classes (OBCs).

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had set up a group of ministers (GoM) headed by finance minister P Chidambaram in August to look into the matter, has now asked the GoM to expedite its recommendations, HT has learnt. He wrote to the GoM last week, reminding it of the urgency of coming up with “legally sustainable recommendations” on the Jat job quota issue soon.

The GoM — made up of home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, social justice and empowerment minister Kumari Selja and minister of state for personnel V Narayansamy apart from Chidambaram — is, on its part, waiting for a report on the socio-economic conditions of Jats in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana.

This study, conducted by the Indian Council for Social Science Research on the request of the National Commission for Backward Castes, was earlier expected to be completed by January 2014 but has now been expedited.

The Congress leadership is under pressure from its ally, the Rashtriya Lok Dal led by civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, who has been pushing for the quota as he claims it would mean big electoral gains for the UPA in western UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and even Delhi.

Currently, Jats are designated as OBCs in some states like Delhi, Rajasthan and UP. They get the benefit of reservation in jobs in these states and have been demanding for many decades that this facility be extended to central government jobs.

The Congress government in Haryana is also in favour of the move and with the model code of conduct having come into force in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the next concrete announcement is expected in January.

The blueprint is to provide quota for Jats within the existing 27% limit for OBCs and the government hopes to meet its own deadline of coming up with the proposal before the general elections.

We are there where we were on the reservation issue!

Perhaps not before the Lok Sabha general elections as no Commission has been appointed on the issue at Centre level reservation whose report is necessary for finalising the matter.

Greetings Everyone. Almost there in the OBC. Just a formality now.. Hurray!!!!!

With an apparent eye on Lok Sabha polls, the government today asked the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) to take an early decision on providing reservation to Jat community in central government jobs.

The Union Cabinet considered a proposal of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and held that NCBC should reconsider its earlier decision of not conducting a survey of Jats in the country.

The Cabinet asked the NCBC to take an early decision on including Jats in the central list of OBCs by which the community members can avail benefits of reservation in central government jobs and central education institutions as per the existing norms, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari told reporters.

"After detailed deliberation and analysis of data by the government, the Cabinet decided to ask the NSBC expeditiously and revert to the Cabinet," he said.

He said the demand for reservation for jats has come from nine states -- Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Bihar.

Seems like you have issues with AAP on various national and regional issues. I am not sure what AAP has to do with Jat Reservation in Centre as it is just a formality now.As far as another party is concerned, I know BJP is not in favour. Nonetheless if you want to ask, they have there toll free number on their website. Go ahead.
