Right to information and our response to this act

Dear Friends:
This email was sent to the Seva group and is pertinent to the Jatlanders. Besides their inputs and contributions are sought to take advantage of this act.
I am listing some links pertaining to the right to information act which has recently come into effect; see this news article http://www.bbc.co.uk/hindi/regionalnews/story/2005/12/051211_information_aapkibaat.shtml
The website listed on the new item is http://rti.nic.in/ but it is not working; I think the correct link is http://persmin.nic.in/RTI/WelcomeRTI.htm

Besides the contact address of Central Information Commissioner is
Email: whabibullah@nic.in; postal contact: Block 4, floor 5, Old JNU Campus, New Delhi -67.

I think this act would mean the ushering of India into a true democracy; by demanding any information that relates to government activities would mean it would become possible to complete unearthing of how the money of the people is used. It does not mean that government would be more open and throw this information readily on the internet or other places but if you demand a particular information you will be provided that information. The regions and people who will learn faster to use this act to their advantage will see visible changes in their fortunes over a period of time. I think the leakages of development funds would be minimized by an informed citizenry and would mean better life in those regions. And this would surpass any effort by any agency or NGO.
I have spoken to Vinod and would try compile some material in the form of PP presentation which could be discussed briefly in the meetings in December and later.
Navin, please tell us about the logistics arrangement; just a projector would be needed I guess for hooking up a laptop for a short and brief talk. It is our duty to make our peple aware of this revolution. I think overtime we would try to systematize the information online. I want some of you to do some search on the net and send me some links on
1. the magnitude of development funds allocated at the block level,
2. to whom are these funds allocated ? MLA , MP etc
3. What is the time frame during which these are supposed to be expended?
I think if we can start to have a systematic compiling of this information we can tell people about their money and where is it going. And this could be the thing for the presentation.

Best Regards,
Anmol Ratan.

Anmol,
That was really nice thought... Right of information has lot of potential in exposing possible corruption... so lets see how can we take this issue... I guess people in Delhi Jat meet should discuss this, once Navin Guliya comes up with list of final attendees, we can ask if someone is willing to take this up and give small presentation.. we can prepare material for him if he wishes... and then the procedue of procuring information can be explained to vollagers they plan to visit... once people have tool to know details of expences in village, tehsil, dist. its leave but little room for unaacountable transactions... Lets see how it goes.. we have to discuss it...

HI AlL

I Think the right to information should be heavily publicised, and I think the very fact that people will have righ to information, will have many corrupt people thinking.

Good Work

Right to information Can change our lives

Dear Friends:
Please see the following video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7440699775939080409&q=india
I hope that people understand the significance of this fundamental legislation. The legal scholarship can discuss how this right affects the other fundamental rights enshrined in our constitution.
But i think this video is very informative; your comments and feedback would be very useful. We can at least try to compile all this information here. I think the time has come for the thieves who have looted the nation to become very concerned. I really liked this video.
Anmol.
