On Monday,7 August, a group of four 6th term cadets from Golf Squadron were crossing a culvert over a heavily flooded mountain stream situated at the base of Sinhagad Fort during a routine map reading and navigation exercise. There was a sudden gush of water over the bridge which swept the four cadets away. While two of them managed to hold on to branches of trees, Cadet Avinav Verma and Cadet AV Bisaria were washed away.

On Thursday, 10 August, the body of Cadet Bisaria was fished out by Navy divers after extensive search operation but there is still no trace of Cadet Verma.
Both the cadets hailed from UP, Bisaria from Etah and Verma from Allahabad.

Just few months away from graduating from NDA on 30 November, the families of both cadets had been discussing who all would attend their POP(passing out parade).

As the coffin containing the remains of Cadet AV Bisaria was given a ceremonial salute at the rain soaked tarmac of Lohegaon airport on Thursday evening, all his teary eyed Uncle could utter was ‘Yeh hui uski Passing Out.’

Extremely Sad

It is an extremely sad news. The tragic end of two promissing young cadets is a great loss to the nation and the military.

We express our deep condolences to the bereived families, and pray to God Almighty to give them strength to bear this irrepairable loss. May the departed sould rest in peace.

The flash floods are very dangerous. It might not be raining where the incident happened. Just too sad.

May the Almighty help the bereaved families face this irreparable loss with strength and gratitude...

Cadet Avinav Verma’s body was recovered on Tuesday evening, 15 Aug, after 9 days of extensive search.
As his last remains were given farewell by fellow cadets at the Lohegaon Airbase on Wednesday morning, Avinav’s mother walked up and told them to chin up. “Do not lose heart. You have to be prepared to give your life for the country.”
Her regret was that her son did not die on the battlefield : “Bachcha goli kha ke jaata, aise nahi”.

Sad story and another example of force of water

Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of two young men who lost their lives.
It can not be too strongly emphasised that even shallow water can have tremendous force to knock any one off his feet. It is the current or velocity of water which is responsible for a lot of accidents. There may not be much depth but if the flow is strong it has enough force to move even large objects like a ship. An individual can be easily overwhelmed by this force. Lesson for all of us " Take water very seriously, especially flowing water.
Take care.

being a part of the defence community such news effects me the most.. it is very difficult to understand the loss the family must have faced... i mean those chaps must be looking forward to see death face to face in the battle field but fate had this in store.. never the less they died as armymen!! let us give them their dues... It hurts a lot to know that their dream to serve the country, the way they wanted could not be fulfilled. But these brave soldiers wil always be remembered with same honour.

Heartfelt condolances to the family and friends of the young soldiers who lost their life...the void cannot be filled.

it is a trajic loss, my mind has been engrossed with thoughts since the day news came out.
since they were final termers they were in best of fitness (including swimming), so i was finding it difficult to figure out how come this thing happened. Was there recklessness on some one's part or was it over adventurism.
For us ex-nda's it is more a personal loss
