MUMBAI: Popular Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, 28, will marry a Delhi-based businessman Sanjay Kapoor of Sona Steering company.
Karisma’s father and actor Randhir Kapoor told TNN on Wednesday: ‘‘Yes, it is true that Karisma is going to marry Sanjay. The date and other details are being finalised.’’
Karisma, grand-daughter of the late showman Raj Kapoor, was engaged to be married to actor Abhishek Bachchan, son of superstar Amitabh last year.
The engagement was announced by Amitabh at a glittering party held at a Juhu hotel to mark his 60th birthday on October 11, 2002.
The party was attended in strength by Mumbai’s Page 3 celebs and the announcement of the engagement was wildly cheered by the gathering.
But a few weeks later, the much-talked about engagement was cancelled stunning not only Bollywood, but Mumbai’s celebrity circuit.
Both Karisma and Abhishek maintained a studied silence about the reason for the abrupt cancellation of their engagement resulting in wild speculations in the gossip circuit.
Following the break-up, Karisma drastically cut down her film assignments.
It is learnt that Karisma and Sanjay have been long time friends. In fact, both the families know each other. Karisma is currently starring in a mega television serial named Karishma. Incidentally, it is to be shown on Sahara channel with which the Big B is closely associated.
In the past ten years, Karisma, the first daughter of the Kapoor clan to enter Bollywood, had acted in a string of films, including Raja Babu, Coolie No 1, Raja Hindustani, Anaari, Khuddar, Sajan Chale Sasural and Dil To Paagal Hai.
However, it was her role in Fiza which marked her emergence as a serious actress. She bagged the Filmfare award for Raja Hindustani and Fiza and the national award for Zubeida.

Ravi ji, namaskar ,i think the concept of gotra is not meant for this clan. they are the ppl who can cross any limit and still they are the best hindus or citizen of bharat.this is the clan which can exaggerate things to beyond any body's imagination.
i will give one example .this is regarding the partition. maximum bloodshed took place in east punjab, where these ppl were commiting atrocities aganist poor farmers who happened to be muslims and when partition came these poor fellows did what they could to take the revenge. after they came to india they jumped into the Jansangh and this country is paying the price for it.
A recent example of their deeds: in last haryana assembly elections, there was a daily routine in punjab kaisary a paper owened by a punjabi that punjabis population in haryana is more than 33% and they should get maximum repersentation in elections. this propgenda went for about six months. the truth is that they are hardly 7% of state's population. punjab problem was also result these thankless pple's activities to a great extand.

i had the opportunity to talk to some elderly men who were their in Lahore as students before partition and their observation is very common ,that is :in refugeeiyan ke chori to sat fere leken bhi kuari ran sen. so the fact is that they are above these things. they think in different ways, we even can't imagine on those lines. so what to talk of gotras......

I dont think that the Kapoors are a Gotra in fact the Hindu Punjabis may be the Genetically most diverse mixture of gene pools in the world. After all every single invader of Hindustan came throught their lands who have they stopped? if anything the enemy often stopped with them.

On the other hand some Hindu Jats who live overseas have explored relationships within the same Gotra for matrimonial purposes which is a far more serious development.

Amit,

Please do not try to comment this sort of example which could place you in a very hard defensive position, unless you have some real facts and figures in your hands. We never heard such a case amongst jats who live overseas getting married to same gotra. It seems to me that our own people are trying to insults us those are living overseas. We have same feeling like those live in India.

Saroj

Punjabi's contains of mainly two casts. Arora and Khatri....

Kapoor falls under Arora cast.

As per Punjabi's rules . Kapoor can't marry in Kapoor surname. He\She can marry to any surname in same cast.

Same for Khatri.
.....................................
Moreover it was an individual interest, so why to bother :-)

I remember even daughter of Erstwhile Maharaja of Jaipur married in same gotra and there was considerable opposition but anyhow couple got away with it.This was like a couple of years ago.
And anyday endogamous marriage are not healthy and leads to various genetic deformities. So my personal opinion is exogamy is scientific, logical, ethical and best for health of progeny.

A very interesting discussion indeed. Well one thing that seems to have been missed by my friends is the fact that our system of marraige is scientifically very correct. You see what is happening to the Parsis all over the world because of inbreeding.

I remember an incident which happened in a Sonepat cinema hall, where seeing a Dharmender movie is an out of the world experience. During those days the Bajaj Scooter Advertisement "You just can't beat a Bajaj" had caught the imagination of the country. Befor the movie started this AD was shown two or three times and a ;Tau' sitting next to me got irritated and asked as to what is this 'Kitter Pitter'. I told him that they are trying to tell everyone in the country that a Bajaj cannot be beaten. You know what the 'Tau' said: "Saale bewkuf banawen hai duniya ka. Lya Bajaj ne mein peet ke dihkayoun. Mere yaar in Punjabian ne te koi bhi chaeet le. Jab janoon ak JAT ke haath la ke dikha de ne"

This confidence comes from the fact that we are a 'Jindadil' kaum. An old saying goes like this: "When two JATS meet they are related, otherwise one of them is not a JAT". How true. We must continue to follow the Gotra system for all times to come. Yes exceptions will be there and should be welcome.
