There has been a growing number of disputes in NRI marriages, the national commission for women has asked the centre to take diplomatic measures to ensure legal protection to women marrying overseas and also indian embassies to play a pro active role in the matter.

The majority of complaints came from countries like US,UK and canada.
Since last year,1,820 cases hv been registered.
Noting that majority of the complaints came from countries like US,UK and canada, there has been a difficulities in helping womens overseas due to international legal barriers.

SO REGARDINGTHIS I WANNA ASK EVERYONE OUT HERE THAT HOW FAR THESE DISPUTES ARE TRUE N WAT CAN BE THE SOLUTION TO IT...........ITS AN OPEN DISCUSSION SO I WANT EVERY ONE TO GIVE THERE VIEWS ON THIS HIGHLIGHTING ISSUE.

NRI Community is in better position to comment on this issue.

Marriage in today's world has become almost like a contract, particular so when these are supposed to be registered in court. NRI marriage has become almost an endemic problem in Punjab where innocent girls are being exploited. Government has made a law that Grooms cannot take divorce outside country if marriage is registered in Indian court. In my view this is correct and will deter all those who used to trap innocent girls.

Well......i have not listened about this issue before..... But as par as the datas of dolly , situation is going to be really complicated........ Such indians staying overseas are following the traditions of westerns. ...........strongly impressed by Western Culture..have a impression to change wives like clothes...............as u know Divorce is a common thing in west....... In most of the cases the boy gets married to an Indian girl to make glad his family........ But cann't continue the life......... & the poor girl suffer...................

i was listening to radio...the other day.. n i heard that..punjabi community.. specially ladies.... in vancouver.... were arguing about having some sort of law that could protect women. This issue.. unfortunately is very true... i hear some story.. full of sadness.. every.. now n then. i think they have extended the .. time period for requesting divorce... n efforts r being made to make life harder for ppl.. who r faking it.

Dude! The problem is greed here, lot of these Punjabi boys 'get' girls from Punjab every year, most of the Punjabi parents have heard the alarm too but greed, greed my friend! Sochte hein ladki bahar chali jaygi, raaj karegi. Yahan halaat kuchh aur hein. Most of the Punjabis here (90%+) jhaadoo marte hein. Then these parents and the girl don't like it and start making all kinds of he said she said stories. These are not real marriages mostly anyways. There are people with all kinds of problems like immigration status, paper marriages or may even just helping somebody in India get to these countries.

In my opinion this problem if at all it is a problem would not stop as long as NRI's are making far more money than average greedy Indian parents of (I would not say innocent) beautiful girls. Western culture has nothing to do with it. Western people are much more trust worthy than us. I see it all the time that an Indian doesn't even want to deal with Indians for the same reasons. We can go ahead and debate on this but all NRI's know this for a fact. I have dealt with Indian attorneys, accountants, construction etc, people most of them are chor for sure. There are few good people too but like I said very few. I am not trying to put down our people here but thats the real truth of the fact.

Interesting fact is that our Jat families are doing much better than all these people.

This problem doesn't exist more or less for our Jats, its mostly with Punjabis and Gujratis only.

Dear Amit
You are right. Greed is a problem, by far the biggest one.
Of course others are cultural difference between the boy and the girl, and also between the boy/girl (born and brought up in Kandda) and their parents who still cherish Indian culture.

The second point about people being "chor for sure" . I have also experienced the same many times or seen it happening. Then the same people very devotedly go to temples and wear a big tilak. Perhaps the problem is more with gujjus and punjabis because they have been out for many generations, and prime aim for migration was to make money.
Unfortunately, they spoil not only Asian image, as the whites and blacks say, but breed corruption within government machinary of the host counrtryt.

There has been a growing number of disputes........

But its not always true that its a problem in abroad. Most of our comunities are living in abroad. Its depend upon their values and culture only. They can do the same thing in India also and very easily. In our india most of the people dont like to saty in joint family but some one want its depend on the ourself.

yes prashant i am not here to give comments on your postsonly.but if yo will blame people living abroad by calling them westernized .i would not sit quiet.and i do not have to take certificate from u for my maturity level.
and coming to the topic i know this problem very well.its mostly in punjabi families and girls from the villages of punjab r victim of it.now indian government is taking steps to protect those girls.there is a organization here in USA also who helps those girls.
the only step which indian government can also take is to make people in punjab more aware of this problem and discourage marriages like this.

western culture???

bhaiyaa jitne westernized aajkal india mein rehne waale ho re hain, utne te abraod mein rehan aale kati na ho sakte..!!! people here comment just for the heck of it.. and while doing so prove how sensible ( oops..insensible) they are. The data is blown out of proportion. Has anyone looked at the number of divorces happening in india?? if you define westernization as increasing number of divorces, i guess Indians in india, if not top will atleast be among the top in being westernized. Kam se kam western countries mein reh kar culture barkaraar rehta hai to a great extent. India mein bhi sab prevalent hai... be it divorce , a live in relation or extra marital affairs. You name it and india has it. logon ko NRIs par kuch kehne se pehle statistics check kar lene chahiye and then only should they blurt out...

EK NU E SUNI SUNAI BAAT MARRE SAI!
NRI S FOLLOW THEIR TRADITIONS MORE THAN INDIANS AND IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON NOT THE COUNTRY

I don't know about her other threads but there is nothing wrong with this one, it’s a worthy topic I think and needs attention too.

As far as 911 or 100 helpline go they never save marriages. These kinds of help for sure can help in domestic violence and such but not divorce. You can't call 911 in US/Canada and ask them to keep family from divorce situation. In these situations when it get out of hand one needs parents, relatives and friends which normally NRI's don't have, at least not all of us.

But interestingly this problem exists more so in Punjabis and Gujratis who have most of their families here.

i might be wrong amit.but what i wanted to convey is disputes in marriage r every where.and i do not see it differently than a arranged married in india.there is always a risk involved in arranged marriage. ur right in india family is there to support.but sometimes family interference makes the matter worse only.i have seen girls willing to compromise but there parents do not let them do so.
