Needs Improvement in Footwork

Unless he improves his footwork to tackle the deliveries directed close to his body, he will find it difficult. Fortunately West Indies at this time does not have the best of bowling attack.

Sehwag's performance has been very poor this season. Consistency is what is required at the top of the batting line up. Sehwag is the Vice Captain of the team and probably is being groomed to take over from Dravid when the situation demands. He therefore needs to find a way out to get more consistant. He is a rare talent, but talent alone can't keep you in team for a long time unless you perform.

With number of new comers doing well with the bat and ball, and being exceptional fielders, it would be difficult for old guards to keep their place for granted. A good thing for the game.

If Venugopal Rao and Raina continue doing well, it will become difficult for Kaif to make a come back. Robin Uthappa's first performance has been good. However I am not sure how technically perfect is he for the job. I had seen a match when he was batting with Shikhar Dhawan, and I found Shikhar Dhawan was a shade more aggressive and may be technically more compact than him. Another advantage Shikhar have is that he is left hander. A left and right combination makes bowler's task more difficult. Let us hope Robin does well consistently. I still feel that Gautam Gambhir got a little raw deal.

Performance will count double on this tour

I agree with Col uncle completely. I also think that players performing in this tour will pretty much cement a place in the world cup squad.

This tour will help players familiarise themselves with the type of pitches they will face in the World Cup. A good performance now will only enstill confidence come world cup time. In any case, based on last few years of Cricket in the caribeaan, the pitches are not going to be fast and will be more suitable for countries from the subcontinent.

Just going off the topic slightly, what does everyone feel the Indian team should be for the Worldcup?

The enigma called Sehwag

Please let him play like he does. All the runs Sehwag has amassed have come dspite is lack of footwork and technique. When he was making 309 in Multan no one questioned his non existent footwork!

All he is suffering from (or was suffering form) is a poor patch which happens to almost all cricketers no matter how good their footwork is.

I love Sehwag because he is Sehwag. Don't try to make him Dravid. With due respect to the Indian captain, you can not expect him tear apart the bowling side right from the word go.

For that you need someone like Sehwag or Dhoni.

Talking about changing technique at this point will be detrimental for the Nawab of Najafgarh and I am afraid he would become a Dhobi ka kutta.

Not so long ago, great Sachin Tendulkar tried to change his game. Initially he succeeded but then he failed like never before and people start saying that change in the master blaster's approach proved to be his undoing. We don't want that to happen to Viru.

It should be clear to everyone that Sehwag can't be as consistant as Dravid. Both the players are different and their approach to the game is different. Ask any bowler as to who he would like to see cooling heels in the pavilion. Sehwag would be the prompt reply because of ability to score runs at uncanny pace which would give Dravid et al a platform to build the innings.

Just give him some time, he will soon be among runs and make no mistake he may be out of form at probably out the team sooner. Let's accept it and hail Sehwag for what he not for what he should have been.
