Put aside the bank balance (where Tendulkar has certainly an edge over Sehwag) and compare them where they stand at a particular stage of their career. As Sehwag is only in his 25th test, I collected the data of Sachin's first 25 tests and after comparison found that Sehwag is much ahead of him as may be seen here :

Tendulkar : In his first 25 test matches had scored only 1522 runs with five centuries at an average of 44.76 with 165 as the highest and 148 as the second highest. He had also taken 4 wickets. Catches 18.

Sehwag : First 25 test matches (with one inning still to go) has scored 2145 runs with 7 centuries at an average of 53.62, with 309 being his highest and 195 as the second highest. Has also taken 3 wickets. Catches 26.

One Day Matches :

Sehwag : In his 103 matches has scored 3008 runs at an average of 32.0 with six centuries and six half centuries with 130 being highest.
Has taken 50 wickets at 39.34, best figures 3/25. Catches 36.

Tendulkar : In his first 103 matches had scored 3339 runs at an average of 36.37 with five centuries and 6 half centuries, 127 being highest. Had taken only 34 wickets at 52.35, best figures 4/34. Catches 30.

Thus, barring the total number of runs in one dayers where Tendulkar if had scored 331 more runs, Sehwag has taken 16 more wickets. Sehwag has performed far better than Tendulkar so far in his cricketing career. As regards Tests, Sehwag has so far proved much ahead of Sachin who had taken 47 innings to complete 2000 runs whereas Sehwag has done it only in his 40th inning. As regards fielding, Sehwag is much better and reliable fielder than Tendulkar was at that stage of his career.

Even, the so called great Gavaskar, had scored only 1770 runs in his first 40 test innings at an average of 50.57 with six centuries and 10 half centuries with 220 as his highest and had yet to take a wicket. (His only test wicket came much later although he had bowled 126 overs in his 40 innings). He had taken only 17 catches in his first 25 tests. Thus Sehwag has much better than even him.

NO NEED TO EMPHASIZE THAT HE BECAME THE ONLY INDIAN BATSMAN TO SCORE A TRIPLE CENTURY IN ONLY HIS 20TH TEST MATCH AND THAT TOO AGAINST ARCH RIVAL PAKISTAN IN PAKISTAN !!!

They say figures speak. That being the case, who says Sehwag is batting crap ?

OH SHERAWAT JI AAPNE KISKA NAAM LE LIYA JAT LAND PE - WO TO (TENDULKAR) DUNIYA KA SABSE BADA BIKHARI HAI, AUR BINA MATLAB KE USE SAR PE CHADHA KE RAKHA HAI, THE BEST THING FOR HIM "BADA SA KATORA LEKAR SADAK PER BHIK MANGNI CHAHIYE"

OUR VEERU IS GREAT....NO ONE ESLE CAN STAND WITH HIM....

Interesting statistics. Yes if Figure's speak for themselves, Sehwag has surely done better than Tendulkar. He is a talented player. The fact he is talented, he can do still better. It is unfortunate that he came to the national side at older age than Tendulkar for whatever reasons. It is the young age at which Tendulkar played his matches, that made him great. We all agree that we get more matured as we grow older.
Sehwag definitely can still do better if he improves his footwork. I am sure we will see him doing better and better in years to come. Our good wishes to him.

At the same time let us not redicule Tendulkar. He has done a great service to the nation and let us acknowledge it. I however agree that person like him should not be given the custom free stuff and should not be treated differently. He makes enough money to pay his taxes. That is the government's mistake as well to accept his request to waive the custom fee on his car.

I am not agree with you mr serawtji.
Tendulakar is a great batsmen. He don't need of a any certification from your side to prove him a best player. Sehawag is also a great batsman but why are u comparise them. they are good friend also. Sehawag is my best player but he cannot replace on the tendulakr. Tendulkar still remain a good man and good player. His achievement make a history and no one can broke them.
By the way what i say please don't mind. because i become short tempeared to listen tendulkar's criticize.
so please don't comparise them.

Sehwag admit that Tendulkar is his Idol.

Ho sake to Sehwag ko is site ka member bana lo..
that will be more positive contribution rather then comparing between two current Jhottey's of World Cricket. :-) :-d

Sehwag versus Tendulkar------> NO COMPARISON

Dear Mukesh,

Where is the criticism of Tendulkar in my post ? I have never criticized Tendulkar. The only point I want to emphasize is that Sehwag is not batting "crap", as some members suggested. Sehwag was the man of series in the last series against Pakistan and is the highest scorers so far in this series. We should not judge a batsman only for his failure in a series or two. If Tendulkar is great, our Sehwag is no less as the figures speak so, and the figures are official, nobody can challenge them. Moreover, don't foreget Sehwag had no godfather in Indian cricket, as most of the Bombay players have.

Dear All,

Our Veeru is one of the best talents presently available in Indian Cricket. I know Sehrawat Ji has just mentioned facts and figures that speak for themselves. In comparing them, don't forget that Sehwag is a humble JAT while Tendulkar is a wily Maharashtrian Gaud Saraswat Brahmin. Well, as far as I am concerned both are Indians.

But I would love comparing them both as a neutral person. I think the most obvious fact that comes out is that luckily Sehwag has one Tendulkar to take advice from, Tendulkar had no one when he started his career. Yes, Gavaskar was available at times but he was not sharing the dressing room with Tendulkar. This is one basic difference. Then Tedulkar opened in one day internationals only after playing 70 odd matches.

However, the most important difference between the two could be as to how each one of them handle their career. Tendulkar has nurtured his iconic status by very intelligent media management. He is now an industry by himself. Sehwag still has a long way to go before he can achieve that status. For that he will have to learn a lot from Tendulkar.

An objective comparison between the two would be worthwhile after Sehwag has played 100 Tests and 300 One Day Internationals.

Regards,

JS Malik

Bhai Dana Ram,

RAM RAM,

Bhai, ke baat hai, Tendulkar se kuchh jyada hi naraz ho? Bhai, he is a known sports icon and the least you must grant him is a little respect. By the way he was gifted a Ferrari by FIAT INDIA as he was our brand ambassador. And we decided to give it to him at Silverstone during the F1 race. Let us leave the episode of the Ferrari here. He was to be gifted a Ferrari, as per the contract, and he was gifted one. Period. Don't go strictly by what newspapers write.

Now comes the issue of asking for a plot of land from the Govt of Maharashtra. What is the harm in it? When 'Retired Babus' of the Govt can have a co operative housing society allotted in their name in Nariman Point and become owners of a house actually worth crores by only paying few lacs of rupees as also RSS being allotted plots at throw away prizes, I see no harm in Tendulkar making a request. Whether he has enough money to buy a plot on his own or not is none of anyone's business. He is an individual and has his own judgement about what is right and wrong. By the way he has been involved with a charity organisation for the last 15 or so years. He doesn't shout from the rooftops though.

Of course, he plays for the BCCI and Money. Who do you think Sehwag plays for? Chudani, his village!!! It is fools like us who think they play for the country. BCCI is not even registered in India but that is another story.

And it is also to be understood that Tendulkar is as smart as a good sportsperson should be. Why should he not make as much money as he possibly can? Do you want him to be like other sportsman who are not able to make even two ends meet after retiring from sports?

Anyway bahut ho gya Tendulkar. Or sunao ke haal chaal hain Dana Ram Bahi.

Respected Col. Sahab,

I AM NOT AGREE WITH YOU SIR SORRY...
SINCE HE BEGGED FROM GOVT. OF INDIA FOR CUSTOM DUTY INSTEAD OF HELPING GOVT. OR POOR PEOPLE, I HAVE NO RESPECT WITH THIS MAN AT ALL.. AND THE OTHER SIDE SOME PLAYERS EVEN THEY ARE NOT INDIAN BUT STILL THEY HELP POOR PEOPLE IN INDIA BY IMOTIONALLY AND ECONOMICALLY...
SO HOW CAN I RESPECT THIS MAN (TENDULKAR), NOT ONLY ME THERE ARE MANY INDIANS WITH ME TOO ON THIS SUBJECT.

Ram Ram.

Sabse pehle - Sehwag WAS batting "crap" prior to his magnificent 155.
He had scored poorly in the Asia cup, then in Holland and then in England games. Not once in 10 games, did he even cross 50!
And before all that apna Veeru bhai haank raha tha ke voh ek double-century banayega.

Now, he has turned it around spectacularly.

As for Virender Sehwag v Sachin Tendulkar.

Bhai, main tho jat hu. And I like Sehwag and I am his biggest fan. But in cricketing terms, he is not a patch on Sachin Tendulkar .... YET.

There is no doubt Viru Bhai has the potential to be the first player to score an ODI 200. Nor do I doubt that he has the potential to be like Sachin, if not greater ......

BUT .....

there is always a gap between results and potential.
Sachin has already bridged that gap and has become an all-time great. Virender Sehwag still has it to do.

The only point I wanted to make through this comparison is that where Sehwag stands vis-a-vis Sachin when Sachin was at the same stage of his career and what potential he has. The figures suggest that he is much ahead of others even Sachin. About this crap "great", we in India brand everyone great who does something worthwhile. Specially in cricket, the "great" is changing every now and then. Each decade had its own great. Gavaskar was great, Kapil was great, in his initial years Azhar was great.... Let us not belittle the word "great". In any given field there can be only one great and in cricket so far, the only great is unquestionably Bradman, all others are ordinary players including Gavaskar, Kapil, Sachin and Sehwag who dazzles in patche and has done satisfactory service to the country.
