Only two classes in India "The poor" and the "The Rich".
There is nothing like middle class in India. So called middle class is the "real poor class", how?
Middle class means small families. In context of India small families means uncertainty in life or someone else deciding about your life.

There are only two classes. e.g. if a person is travelling on a road in an expensive car and there is a accident, this person and his car has the same result as a home less person lying on side of any road. This is a society that everyday person lives in. Crowds pass-by or stand by to watch the event and wait for the person to die, this is a fact of society that we live in. So, the person travelling in an expensive car is as poor a homeless person lying on side of any road. Then there is a section of people who do not travel on such roads or use other means of transport or have loads of people in other cars travelling along with them. The example stated here is a glimpse in one part of life of everyday person. This sort of life is present in almost all parts of life of everyday person.
There is a need for fundamental changes in India otherwise the concept of "chalta hai", will keep on happening.
Middle class is a victim and prisoner of wrong policies and criminalisation.
Middle class which strives on savings will find it hard to save its savings from the new economic, criminal, sociopolitical situations in the country. This middle class comprises of all the salaried and educated people striving to earn their living through their education and jobs.
Majority of India's sociopoliticaluneducatededucated sections thrive on mass accumulation of people in form of "Jan rath", etc., which is used to create a chaos and override reasoning and any other educated thought process. This mentality also gives rise to a thought process of mob mentality being stronger than given scientific thought or reasoning process. This also leads to vast accumulation of wealth or resources which supersedes any middle class of small earning/saving people. Middle class are also supposed to have less number of children as the burden of education and taxation, unpredictable life, no medical security, etc., comes on middle class, while sociopolitical sections(religion being one part of sociopolitical section) thrive on mass accumulation of people or "Jan sailab/ Jan Rath/etc.) i.e. the power of "we" being greater than the power of any individual, reason, education, thought process, etc., creates a scenario where middle class is bound to be overrun by masses of mobs drives by these sociopolitical sections.
Everyone suffers from discrimination at certain point. It is a religiously driven society facilitated by out of India interests and inside India interests.
As Neel mentioned India is very complex society and its really hard to clearly classify in modern western terms of social classification. But at the same time they can not be just classified as poor and rich, we have a lot more and complex division in between and even beyond both these boundary points. Poor is the one who struggle for his bread and butter but one level below is the one who also suffer social discrimination, and one level above you have the one who can manage bread and butter but can not get anything which middle class can manage, such as education, medical, then middle class itself can be lower and upper, rich can be super rich and social and political affluence mixed with these create more classes.
