Sumit, why are you so biased to criticize what Congress says and ignore what BJP says when they are both equally at fault? Why did I not see a similar thread when a BJP MP said Amartya Sen should be stripped off his Bharat Ratna when he shared his sentiments based on his scientific economic ways against Narendra Modi?

Now would you say shame on BJP and Modi?

Yes i am bit biased i respect Lata more then Mr Sen ....... .

I wonder why? Mr. Sen has brought country laurels on global platform, won a Nobel prize, remained an Indian citizen when he could have opted for any other citizenship world wide.

On the other hand Lata Mangeshkar did not let BMC build a fly over as privacy of her house was being marginalised ignoring ease of millions of commuters

Buddy she did blunder by praising Modi .... she has n number of errors , will it make any diff if Mr Sen gave up his Indian citizenship he served a foreign country throughout his life , his kids from multiple wives are settled abroad what he did in India except his CITIZEN SHIP .... Lata motivated the soldiers and whole country during the sino war which we lost for me this reason is more then enough to be biased at that time where was Mr Amritya sen ... you can throw more mud on her i have no problems ... what Chandan Mitra did was wrong ... i think now two wrongs are making one right :)

She got paid, still gets royalty for the song.

Isnt it shallow to attribute someone by his personal life? He divorced his first wife, second died from cancer and is married to third one- all in accordance to Hindu Marriage Act.

You stay out of the country, does that mean you are not patriotic?

I dont know from where you get the idea that i am breaching his personal life he married thrice where is need for you to be angry ;) i just said his kids from multiple wives whats wrong in it ... he has full rights to get married at age of 58 but dont say Hindu as per Sanatan Dharam after 50 its Vanprastha not marrying third time .....and as far as Lata is concerned she did concerts and donated money for Uttrakhand floods what Mr Sen did ? he politicised the religion based problems in India ...... his biggest achievement in recent past :)

Yes i am less patriotic then a person who is in India and helping people during crisis .

As long as we are comparing, he set up a charity trust with his prize money for work in education and health care in India and Bangladesh and working with several governments in India on inclusive growth models.

Two wrong makes one RIGHT...???
is it...!!!

Pls comment on CONGRESS statement..leave apart other..is it Right..??

jawahar lal nehru , indira gandhi, rajeev gandhi all got bharat ratna .,.,.,.,,., so one thing come to mind how Mrs Sonia gandhi be conferred.,.,. so better will be snatch from some existing one on pretext of praising some opposite party candidate. Moreover, Sardar vallabh bhai patel was also conferred of nations highest civilian awards nd are in news now a days, so the next day any Kangraisi can claim for stripping of his award from his family if BJP or any of its member discuss his name.

How dare she can praise anyone else than Gandhi-Nehru family in this country!!!!! It is not allowed. She seems to be influenced by VHP RSS BJP Bajrang Dal etc. Lata Mangeshkar should be asked to leave this country. She is not secular !!!!! :livid::livid:

Simple. Amritya Sen is a man of letters with a profound understanding of political science in addition to economics. He, therefore, cannot be so easily swayed by those political entities who want to use him as a tool for a rise in politics. To the contrary, the actors, dancers and singers, inspite of doing good in their respective fields, are usually bereft of political awareness and devoid of analytical ability. Politics is thrust upon them by the opportunistic politicians to exploit their popularity among the masses. Moreover, most of these artists are inclined towards a lavish lifestyle and pomp only; with less inclination towards politics. However, some of them, at the fag end of their carrier, try their luck in politics also; but most having proved to be total flop in their newfound enterprise. Innocent people carve 'Gods and Goddesses' out of the cine actors and cricketers. Having said that, I have immense regard for Lata ji who is an extraordinarily versatile singer and a very sweet human being. She is, of course, entitled to her political opinion as a citizen of a democratic country and no one has a right to make a bone out of this. But, people should not live in a fool's paradise by assuming that all her fans would now endorse Lata Mangeshkar's political opinion or choice.

Vijay Sir ji you did a wonderful analysis the only bad part is the comments on her Bharat Ratna they should leave atleast the national awards apart from such blame games ...

Correct me if I took it wrong but what you are saying is Lata Mangeshkar is praising Modi in lieu of personal benefits forseen upon him becoming the PM?

And anyone who is sane and analytically driven(smart in other words) will not be swayed by Modi wave as he is shallow on numbers, and performance?

No, Vikas. She is a graceful lady and she did not express her opinion while expecting any material gain in lieu of. It could be her considered opinion to which she was entitled. However, correctness of her analysis could be subjected to debate and I do not see any offence in debating that. But to restrict her in expressing her political opinion is wholly unfair as she can not be expected to be loyal to the government which bestowed upon her the honour of Bharat Ratna.

[h=1]Despite secular concerns, Amartya Sen now sees PM Modi in new light[/h]
Your analysis was perfect :)

If a politician’s success can be gauged by how he has won over the critics, Narendra Modi’s seven-month tenure can be considered a reasonable success already.
At an interaction organised by The Indian Express, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen said he remained a critic of Modi, but also offered more than grudging admiration for the man who he has repeatedly said would not make a good Prime minister due to his non-secular image.
In May, while casting his vote in Bolpur in West Bengal, Sen had said: “I don’t think he is a good prime ministerial candidate. Obviously he is very popular in some sections. He is very popular among the business community. That doesn’t mean he is my favourite candidate.”
Yesterday (21 December), he had modified his tune. “I am critical of Mr Modi but I have to say he has given a sense of faith to people that things can happen. It may not be in exactly the same way that I would have liked to have happened… I think it is quite an achievement. It is a compliment, but our differences on secularism and other things don’t go away.”

Not much difference actually. He said Modi has given people faith. Seems he only now realized the bhakti of the bhakts :)
