I am not calling every Indian stupid here (I am one myself) but the ones who are displaying who are showing the world that no matter how much educated we get we are still stupid. What alarmed me most that this happened in not in UP or Bihar but in Banagalore the so called "Silicon Valley of India".....honestly I feel ashamed :(

Bhai.....it is indeed very sad and stupid but then we love to indulge in such things every now and then as part of a habit.........Immaturish and a mob mentality, with law enforcing agencies watching on the side lines to prove that politicians do hold things to ransom in this country.Poor governence and pathetic attitudes all around.Bad,real bad.

But...

I agree.

But, blaming politicians for everything is not the answer. Rajkumar was indeed a very popular person and a demi-God in Karnataka. My questions after seeing violent scenes on TV at Bangalore are a little different.

Q 1. Why the state administration failed to anticipate his death and take remedial measures in time?

Q 2. Why did the family of Rajkumar not cremate/bury him on the same day? Is publicity so important?

Q 3. Why were mobs allowed to rule the streets?

The majority of people who indulged in violence in Bangalore were young men (20 - 30 years old). It looked as though they were from lower strata of society, unemployed and frustrated. The causes can be many and can be debated seperately. Had Rajkumar been alive, he would have committed suicide.

This lso reminds me of our so called free media. When the fire was raging in Meerut, the breaking news that was flashed across the channels, even while showing charred bodies live on TV, was 'Hospitalisation of Salman Khan's mother' at Mumbai. God also can't free us from our sic mentality.

Mein dekhan chalya gaya, thodi der mein ghane lungade khatthe hoge jo bhi aave bhoonda muh kare ...er chadh jya deevaran pe uske ghar ki ... Ye saare media aale bhi aa liye the itne mein ....bera na kasaiyan ne ke rooka sa marya police bhi madi si kardi hui er dhare do charan ke ...mach gi bhagdad. ....mein bhi sarak liya maka bhasha bhi samajh mein na aavegi ke kahe rahe hein ...

In an hour only they gathered in thousands and then police has used tear gass and lathis. In front of my office they have hit the car of IPS Ajay raj singh. He was hurt and then pulled him and set his vehicle to fire. After that 1,2,3 ...5 vehicles were set to fire and started aiming at the glasses of Aditi building.

Koe uneh samjave ek bhai Ram ne thaya hai wo er 77 saal ka ho rahya tha aram te jake kaaj karo ne uska rolla kar rahe. Mhare office mein ek angrej Movie banave tha unki to ek ne seedha uske ee gaad diya ek pathar ...he was very scared. After that they smashed Talishma, Microsoft R&D center, HP and looted a petrol pump near by bashim circle and the whole market.

They took a second round of destruction next day when his body was taken for cremation. This time they do not even left the houses and smashed personal cars and glasses of houses badly.

Kuldeep ahlawat was talking to me very happily that my area (airport road) is atleast safe but soon he called again to tell that his logica cmg is also hit badly.

What I observed is that the police and administration was not much active and not at all in mood to control them, it seemed that they were waiting them to cool down themselves.

It was really a bad show.

Jagmohan ji,

First of all you are very right in saying that Rajkumar was just like god to these people and that i have experienced very closely. But thing is that this is when he was not involved in much welfare and charity works, this is admitted by the people here too. Only popularity he gained by his art.

Q1. As you have raised, administration was not at all in the mood to control them but they were seemed to be killing time to let them calm down themselves. Only around 200 Policemen near to his house and not more than that.

Q2. The news should be kept a bit secret and till then they should have moved his body to his farm house instead of the kanteerva stadium in the mid of city, so as to reduce the destruction in the city.

Q3. Mobs rulled the streets and hit the houses, markets and companies badly and without any obstacle from police. Police was not at all in a position to handle this situation and also the intent was less strong to do so.

Dear Sir,
I can not gather how the administration could have anticipated the thespian's death when its was due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Agreed he was not in the best of his health eversince he was released from Veerappan's captivity, but the administration cannot keep counting down all the time.

Moreover, this outburst was simply unprecedented. Mostof us haven't predicted that. If, god forbid, Amitabh dies today at the most we can expect is a massive sense of grief but not Delhi, Mumbai or Allahabad going berserk.

The real reason has little to do Rajkumar's death. It is that an average Kannadiga has been sort of sidelined in the booming Bangalore economy. A Kanndiga saw himself in deep sense of loss and grief but a fellow North Indian was going to office as the latter couldn't relate himelf to the incident. This turned the agony and helplessness into anger whose manifestation we saw in the violence.

For the uninitiated, only 27 pc of the Bangalore's population is native.

Dear Daksh,

I based my comments on the reports that emerged in the media and personal information from friends in the Karnataka Govt that Dr Rajkumar was unwell for the past month and it was a matter of time before he breathed his last. When so much was known, there could have been some decisions taken by the administration, for eg, the place of cremation, the route to be taken and likely requirement of additional forces. No one knows it better than the Govt that the Kannadigas feel marginalised in their capital city. Thereofre, it is the duty of the Govt to take steps to aviod what was avoidable. They should have kept his death a secret for a few hours so that state machinary could have been alerted.

shameful

The arson and voilence following Raj Kumar's death was indeed shameful.
But the big question no channel or analyst had tried to answer is WHY DID IT HAPPPEN ?

To say that Raj Kumar was an icon and therefore Kannadigas went beserk is not palatable. He was not killed or murdered by outsiders. He died a natural death. People would feel grieved and not angry with multinational cos or symbols of wealth.

In any case such kind of voilence can't be spontaneous on such a large scale and continue for two days ?

Common people dont readily take to voilence because they are the ones who suffer the most. Kannadigas are one of the more peaceful community in India. Voilence could not have happened of this scale unless it was incited, fanned and actively supported by some organised vested interest like political party. It was something similar to Anti-Sikh riots after Indira's death, though no persons except the policemen were targeted.
