Nice thread

Hi Jit and Laxman ji

I wanted to know is tushir takhar tushar and takshak are as synonymous as mahla and mahlawat and ghelot and ghelawat .

Do jats of these gotras consider a common brotherhood and never go for matrimonial relation .

Laxman ji

We know old jat gotrs like sindhu ,takshak ,takhar ,bal ,bhatti ,mahl, tur recorded again and again in historical annals.

Do we have info regarding origin of some new gotrs from these old gotrs and their bakward linking with yadu and tur clans?

Sindhu, Sandhu and Sidhu are all same and having same meaning. But they do have matrimonial alliances among them. Similar is case with Rawat, Sauraut and Sehrawat in Faridabad. Basically they are all Rawat/Rath/Raatth/Rauth/Rathi/Rathika/Rashtrakuta etc. They all have matrimonial alliances among them.

However, fact is that Gots having even if same meaning may be from two different lineages. That way all Jat gots and even the various meanings of the words Jat and Got seem to concentrate on a few words.

Top, High, Leader, Agriculturist, Warrior, Nomad, Tall, Natural, Animal Tamer, Ruler etc.....

However, other contention also seems to be true partly that as we move from one place to another one, from one Eurasian language to other one, the names do change as per Grimms law of variation. Like Jat, Gat, Jatae, Getae, Jot, Got, Jut, Gut....etc. Like Jata in Hindi has the same meaning as Gutt in Punjabi, both meaning hair.

Sindhu gotra

Sindhu is an ancient gotra. Sindhu Raja Jaidratha, who had married Duryodhana's sister fought for the Kauravs in the Mahabharat.

Nagendra Nath Bannerjee writes in his book 'Bangla Shabd Kosh' that Jaidratha before becoming the ruler of Sindh Desh ruled Ceylon. Jaidratha was born in the 52nd generation of Yayati's third son Ardas. His father was Dardshanu. His capital in Sindhu Desh was Alwa and he had constructed forts at Mathela, Shiv Rao, Bhan and Shavistan. In 600 BC a Sindhu ruler helped Babylonia against Cyrus. Later another ruler helped Darius against Alexander. After having been ruled by Sindhus for many generations, Sindhu Desh came under the rule of Mauryas. Chach, a Brahmin courtier, assasinated the Mauryan ruler in conspiracy with his corrupt queen. The Sindhu and Midh Jats of Sindhu Desh resented it and consequently helped Khalifa Al Qasim against Chach. After Chach came to power, the Sindhu Jats left Sindhu Desh in large numbers and settled in the Punjab and established a big 'Khap' there.

Toor, Tanwar, Tomar

'''Toor, Tanwar, Tomar''' Jat gotras are related to Turvasu, In the dynasty of Yayati, was son of Yayati from Devayani, with whom Tomar gotra is related. Yayati had two wives Devayani and Sharmishtha.

Yayati got two sons from Devayani – 1. Yadu and 2. Turvasu.

Yayati got three sons from Sharmishtha – 1. Druhyu 2. Anu and 3. Puru.

Yayati made Turvasu the rulers of westwrn region. The descendants of Turvasu were known as Turvasus, who founded Turvaski. Over a period of time Turvaski became Turski and finally Turky. Toors originated from them.

The descendants of Turvasu, known as Turvasus changed due to linguistic differences to Turvas, Tavras, Tambar, Tanwar and Tomar. Due to political reasons Tomars returned from west region to south through Central Asia and settled in areas around Delhi known as Indraprashtha. Since they had come from west they have been called Yavanas in Sabha Parva of Mahabharata.

The Tomars spread from Delhi to other places in search of better lands and came upto Bhind in Madhya Pradesh. In the seventh century under the influence of new Hindu religion some of the tomars got inducted into Agnikula Rajputs. Rest who believed in old Vedic traditions remained in Jats.

Takshak or Taxak

Takshak or Taxak gotra jats have been mentioned in the "Vishnu Purana' that before the Pandava. Takshaks belong to the Shavi dynasty. In the 29th generation of king Shavi, one of the six sons of king Sototi was Takshak. According to genealogical tables of the Yayati dynasty King Satoti is considered by the Tartars to be their ancestor. Takshak, Bachak etc. are also called the Nagas. There are ample references to these people in local and foreign histories. According to Mahabharata 'Adi Parva', before the Pandavas, Khandoban (Indraprastha) was the capital of the Takshak rulers. They created obstacles in the way of construction of the capital by Pandavas. Finally, these people were defeated, rendered homeless and driven out.

They went and settled down in Taxila (Taksila). In the battle of Mahabharata they joined the Kauravas and killed king Parikshit. They founded Takshakkhad (Tashkand) and Takshaksthan (Turkistan).

At present Takshal and Tokas gotras are found among the Jats in five villages near Delhi. The Takshak Jats are found spread all over Northern India, Pakistan and Central Asia. Tokas is found also in Romania. Takshak Jats ruled Alexandria in Egypt. Their title was Asi.

Nahusha was the mighty king of Asia, who sat on the throne of Indra. Nahusha had six valiant sons, of whom Yayati was most important and succeeded the throne. Yayati married twice, his first wife was Devyani, daughter of Shukracharya, the priest of Assuras. Yadu and Turvasu were born from her. Turvasu is sanskrit equivalent of Tebati.
