Good article...In fact a great article!
Specially for all of us here abroad who look at these news in the magazines and papers and 'phoole nahi smaate' thinking this guy/or woman (cause he or she has an Indian name, of course yaar!)...is making the country (India!) proud!!!

Does the recent aticles on bend-it-like-beckham Chaddha ring a bell?
We have been deliriously happy about how Indian filmakers are making a mark in the international scene! Wait a minute (Indian?)...She has been and will remain a her Majesty's worker as we all know, so why the hoopla?...

Its nice to see a familiar or at least recognizeable name in the news when it comes to the lands afar, but we should not start gauging the success of India by the rise to fame of such individuals just for the fact they may be of desi descent. They have for all purposes most probably severed all ties to the Bharat we know.

Again This Article was a great food for thought!!!

there r 2 types of NRIs:
1) No Relation to India
Never to Return to India
..etc etc
U can ignore them.
2) This 2nd type who have broadend their wisdom after having experienced the world and have Now Re-invested in India and are resposible for the New Resurgent India should be welcomed.

The booming chinese economy is a result of close cooperation between the govt and and the NRCs.

And Jewish Americans now control the world politics.

There are no free luch in west. U have to really work hard to get ur name "up there".

West is where the money is, honey...
...so be carefull before u jump to conclusions.

pray tell me how much they have invested in india!!!!!!!!!deposits yes........due to the intrest rate differential.and the day there is a little bit of instability,THEY WILL BE THE FIRST ONES TO TAKE TO THEIR HEELS.........

Dear All,

Let us look at it from a slightly different angle. Why does a person leave his motherland? Obvious answer is to achieve some thing which seems to be too difficult in India. Therefore it is obvious that the individual has the drive and will to take charge of his life. It is this factor alone which is responsible for his success or otherwise in a foreign country. Because there are no short cuts to success and he/she decides to compete and give all he/she has got. Results are obvious and they do shine. India can be justly proud for imparting that core value in the individual, so could be others who are responsible for it, e.g. parents, teachers, neighbours, friends. Out of sight is not necessarily out of mind. The individual who has such a high esteem also understands his obligations in life. They start with self, family, friends and extends as far as one's capacity can take him. It should also be acceptable to us that some of those who left Indian shores do not want to look back. But those (which is a large percentage) who do look back and want to do some thing for their motherland should not be ridiculed. They may not be doing a favour to any one but just doing their duty as they see it which is much better than millions who live in the country and only want to exploit it's people or harm them. But ofcourse when we start criticising some group or individual we are very generous at it until our turn comes when we become defensive. So if you want to bash NRIs do by all means it is a free country but make sure you do it for right reasons. Probably we all can learn from each other including NRIs and let us not become proverbial frogs in the well.

Good Article
NRI is basically Non Returable Indians once they start working and prove themselves

Dear All,

I am in complete agreement with Sheorayan Ji. Though I don't know whether I am fully qualified in commenting on this issue as I have never been abroad. I can always participate in the discussion.

Those who venture to leave the shores of one country for another do so for a cause. Indians have done the same. Encourage them. They want to achieve something which may not be possible or attainable in here. I am not mentioning the slave trade of earlier times at all. There is a quote from a famous American as to how he is indebted to his Grand Pa for being on the boat of slaves headed for Amarica.

I can't comment whether Indians are happier there or not. I know for sure that the majority of the population here in the 'Motherland' is not happy. Don't jump on me and give me patriotic mouthful about 'Sone Ki Chidyia' and 'Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara'. These sentiments have been milked dry by the politicians and no one is impressed by these slogans anymore. We are 126th out of 175 countries on the 'human index scale'. OK, OK we have progressed a lot but think of the opportunities missed. I also know for a fact that India looks very beautiful from a foreign land. Have heard enough people say this.

Another point. Why should we mind NRIs having the best of both the world's? If they choose to contribute for the development of the country, fine. If not, so what. If they have helped their blood relations and relatives, good for them. If they haven't, so what. A simple fact is that NRIs are a part of us will always remain Indians. But I am not the one to tell them to remain Indians first. No sir. Indians you are but first please be proud to be an Americam or English or Fijian or whatever. Because that is your country now.

If I could have my way and if God gives me a magic wand, I will send all Indians, well most, to a western country to learn few basic principles of life like discipline, dignity of labour, respect for law etc. At least we will learn not to spit, smoke and shit on roads and railway track. My only fear is that very few will come back.

My advise to all JAT NRI brethern is: Laagey Raho, jahan bhi ho. Mehnat karo aur jitni madad kar sakte ho ek doosre ki karo. Yu desh kahin nahi jaata bhaj ke. 2000 saal te log lootan laag re hain, koi farak nahi padta. Do whatever you can do for the 'motherland' but you don't have to shed tears for it.

Lt Col JS Malik (Retd)

Dear Jagmohan:

I love you, Bhai Saheb. I could not have done a better job myself in writing on this theme. Your posts are invariably most illuminating. Keep it up.

Budh Bahi Saheb,

Thanks.

The aim was simply to put things in perspective. It is important for all of us to get on with our jobs. JATS are at least 500 years behind those who have progressed. A couple of generations, including ours, have to slog day in and out to be able to be anywhere near the top. Leave aside individual excellence, we as a community are way behind others. Our prejudices are as old as our history. And when we waste time in things like who loves the country more and whether NRIs contribute or not, one is fearful of the future.

Regards,

Jagmohan

Respected JagMohan Bhai,
You have written a wonderful true story about NRIs. As you have mentioned that you can't comment on the happiness of NRIs. But your knowledge and vision about it is absolutly right.
As far as happiness is concerned, there is a very hard life out of India. You can have Phokat ka only in India. So many Jats have done great jobs abroad like top positions in NASA (Rathee's). One young jat girl is working as V. President ,Citibank ,UK.
But I have observed our Jats bhais abroad are not as co-operative to jats bhais as they should be.

Keep it up!!!

Regards
