Master Chandagi Ram
Born: November 9, 1937 at Sisai, Hissar, Haryana Arjuna Award: 1969

Son of Maru Ram and Sarwan Devi, Chandagi Ram dominated the Indian wrestling scene for more than a decade. During this period he won every title at national level and brought laurel for the country as well. Tall and well built he was essentially an Indian style wrestler and his bouts always attracted huge crowd and good media coverage. He bagged almost all the prestigious titles like Bharat Bhim, Bharat Kesari, Rustum-e-Hind and Mahabharat Kesari. At international level he was first picked to represent the country in 1970 Bangkok Asian Games where he won gold medal defeating world champion Amvani Abulfazi of Iran in the Heavy weight class. His victory raised vision for a medal in the Olympic Games but he lost tamely to an unknown wrestler from Panama in the first round in the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. This proved his last international engagement.
