Time for Cong to grab Jat bull by the horns

By addressing a CM level person as 'Jat bull', isn't media crossing the limit ?

Economic Times on 13th May Published a story titled: Time for Cong to grab Jat bull by the horns

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/5924137.cms

I strongly object to the language and addressal for the head of the state. When Shashi Tharoor calls common man "cattle class", so much hue and cry is raised but when a "Jat" is called a bull, or needs to be "grabbed by the horns" nobody seems to be bothered. I have strong reservations on addressing anybody leave aside a CM level person as "Jat Bull" and the fact that media needs to tell that this "bull" needs to be grabbed by the horns??

I feel we Jats keep getting humiliated and nobody seems to be concerned, not even people from our own community. Such type of comments need to be answered in similar tone, and should be condemned by everybody across political lines, as this is a matter of prestige of our community.

what is the opinion of worthy members on the issue? Comments are requested.

Regards, Vishesh

The expression, " grabbing a bull by the horns" is a common English expression.

It means dealing with the problem

No need to get worked up

Times group is full throttle in maligning the image of Jats. They have brought in writers like Chetan Bhagat as well.
The last Saturday issue of TOI carried an article by Chetan “Whats Gotra Got To Do With It -If modern leaders back medieval traditions,India will regress rather than progress” in which he goes on to say
“I dont know my own gotra.I didnt even know what gotra meant until recently. Many people still dont, but calling it a subcaste is a good proxy definition.I dont know why it was invented,or why it is still relevant. As if it wasnt good enough to divide people on caste,we needed one more level of sub-caste slicing to ensure as many Indians hate each other as possible.”

I have posted the following comment at (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...tra-Got-To-Do-With-It/articleshow/5959357.cms)

“The article is a total crap. First and foremost, traditions are always old (is Christmas or Valentine day not from Medieval period?

Well who asked your gotra and what do you have to do with all this? All Jats know their gotra and that’s where it matters. And yes, how does it bring hate. Contrary, inter-gotra marriages connects different people from far flung areas and is an instrument for unity.

It seems, Chetan either doesn’t have any gray matter or he has been paid so much that he lost his common sense by the glitter of the money.”

In today’s print the paper makes fun of Naveen Jindal for supporting the Khaps (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Will-you-marry-within-gotra/articleshow/5970255.cms)

- Samaj nahin aata ki in times group alan ke ki Jatan ne koi zhoti kho rakhi se. Bera na ye kyon peche pad re sain.

The expression may not be the problem. Read the article. It is associating every incident with Khaps and caste and is propagating anti-Jat feelings. The mention of figures and casts of former CM shows the elements of a political conspiracy.

"Jat leaders of Congress from Haryana of late have been spectators to a spate of gory incidents that can be attributed to social practices out of sync with civilisation. The question in the Congress leadership’s mind may be whether the answer to the problem lies in a non-Jat leadership, where 25% to 27% electorate comprise Jats.

With Jat politicians supporting Khaps and the recent attack against Dalits, the political temperature in the state has gone up. In Mirchpur, more than 20 houses of Dalits were torched by Jats, resulting in the death of 18-year-old physically challenged Suman and her father Tara Chand.

Caste barriers in Haryana are so strong that even an altercation over a trivial matter like a pet dog of a Dalit can flare up into a carnage. The incident at Mirchpur bears testimony to this. In the last few months, such similar caste issues related to Khap panchayats has pushed Haryana to the edge and put chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on a sticky wicket.

BSP has managed to keep the issue alive. The Khap panchayat’s demand that the Hindu Marriage Act be amended to ban same-lineage marriage has only added fuel to the fire.

In the past four decades, the only non-Jat satrap to govern the Jat-dominated state has been three-time chief minister Bhajan Lal. The other leader to have led the state as its non-Jat CM was Banarsi Das Gupta. Though he was catapulted to the coveted post twice, his tenures were quite short.

In politics all this is very common. Everyone knows Indian politics is caste and religion based. There are parties solely based on caste. INLD, RLD, BSP, SP - they all are caste based. I dont understand what your objection is about. Rather than pasting whole article you should have pointed out the sentences you think are objectionable. What is political conspiracy? Govts get made and dislodged day in and day out based on the numbers and strength one has.

Protest is childish, rubish...
Article is quite good reflecting just political possibilities for Congress in Haryana. Bull indicates power. I have gained something from the article though. I was under impression that as Late Devilal and Banshilal are Jats, Bhajan Lal is also a Jat, but it is interesting to know that he is a non-Jat. Amazing how he has made it to the post of Haryana C.M. so many times.

Who gave job to this joker Dr Runki Ram ? He discovered that Khaps came in to existence in Mughal times to save Jats from Muslims .Such persons can ask from others or atleast can use internet before displaying their wisdom . It looks any one can write any thing about Jats these days .However most pathetic, is attitude of those Jats, who are down with IAC Syndrome. Such persons should read about great traditions of their ancesstors before falling prey to negative propoganda of others. Article is just crap ,written with an anti Jat bias.

BTW Bhajan Lal is Bishnoi Jat of Manjju clan.

Yes, Indian politics has lots of elements based on caste and religion. But, is Jat the only caste in Haryana? Also, the reflection of Mirchpur incident is not correctly stated. It was not just an "altercation over a trivial matter like a pet dog". The article is wrongly associating the Mirchpur incident to the whole Jat community and the Khaps.

There were no Khap or community meetings which decided on that action. It was not a planned incident; rather it was a spontaneous reaction to the provocations from other community.

I do not support what ever happened however, mere involvement of youths, who happen to be Jats, is not a valid reason for tarnishing the image of the entire community.

You should also read the other two articles, from Chetan Bhagat and the one on Naveen Jindal.

Nandita Sen Gupta says :

few youth in mirchpur these days. young dalit women packed off, young Jat men hiding elsewhere. 4:41 AM May 9th via web

mirchpur dalits return but say samjhauta nahi karenge. tat means no dropping charges. good for them. where's blue elefant brigade? 4:40 AM May 9th via web

mirchpur on my mind. mahakhap panchayat held there today. dalits attend. khap tells dalits you'll be protected, come bak to village. right. 4:38 AM May 9th

If this is journalism than good that I am not Journalist :D

Within three days of the carnage, a maha-khap panchayat of Jats was organised in the village. Representatives of 43 khaps met on the premises of the animal husbandry department. They demanded the release of the 29 Jats arrested and reinstatement of the suspended SHO. The superintendent of police and deputy collector said they were not aware of such a meeting, though it was attended by about 2,000 men within earshot. Across Haryana, there’s a war being waged on the Indian state by khap panchayats, an open defiance of law far more serious than what the country’s Maoists are attempting. Mirchpur has to be seen in the context of other Haryana milestones: the burning of Balmiki homes by Rajputs in Salwan in 2007; the Gohana carnage of 2005 (where 60 Balmiki houses were set afire); the lynching of five Dalits in Jhajjar in 2003. It’s an everyday war, as Ambedkar said.

O man!! Get a life!

At the risk of sounding skeptical, I mention that I can see a vicious trend in the various articles published in media..there is a deliberate attempt to ensure that Jats do not hold key positions in govt on the lines of what happened in Rajasthan and Delhi. At the same time, all jat votes as a block should move to Congress only.

1) Jindal is projected as a Jat saviour and NON JAT Option to Bhuppi.
2) Even Chautala has spoken against Same gotra marriage...but he is not reported that way .
3) This way all jats will go to Congress and at the same time a Non Jat will be CM.
4) Any non Jats will never vote for Chautala..so he will be ruled out as a CM and Bhupi will be ruled out as so many non jats are behind his position..

Do I say that all jats should vote for Chautala only?..Ans, No..the only point is that whosoever you vote for..just ensure that you are represented properly in government..through tactical voting etc..

Then should we start favoring caste based politics???, NO…a BIG NO. But whether we accept it or not, Indian politics is based on caste and religion: In fact, the so called secular and mainstream parties do it the most. Given this situation, we should ensure that we vote for lesser evils and at the same time ensure that our rights/claims as a community are not encroached upon.

By keeping ourselves strong, we can eventually ensure that harmony prevails between different communities and meritocracy becomes the order of the day.

PS: To the above article in Thread...i pasted this in comments in EcoTimes on Day1 of its publication:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It's very unfortunate to see that one particular community at large is being singled out and demonised. Haryana a state which is high on development index is portrayed as conflict ridden state. The content of the article is malicious. In UP dalit upliftment have not happened even if Mayawati is reigning there. Irrespective of the cast and creed, a leader should be chosen as a CM if he garners support and is a capable leader. The Non Jat CM mentioned in the article..Bhajan Lal is famously known as architect of Aaya Ram-Gaya Raam Rajniti. His tenures have been most corrupt tenures and the development in the state was all time low during his regime. Haryana being a small state has largely been succesful on overall development, let us not cripple it by bringing caste factor. This article is as divisive as any cast based conflict. Unfortunate to see a journalist playing politics. At the same time, i do not rule out the problems that cripple haryana like skewed sex ratio etc but these problems are generic across whole north india and haryana is already standing up against this. Let the harmony in our little state be not broken from malacious intent.

I think you should keep a check on your general knowledge before posting such statement. Bhajan lal is Bishnoi Jat ( Manjhu Gotra ). Bhajan Lal declared himself a Non Jat leader but that certainly doesn't change his cummunity he belongs to.

I already commented on the above article published in Economic Times. If someone like to read the comments its still there.

Vijay Singh, New delhi, says: This is self fabricated relationship between the two incedents happened in Haryana. khap issue have nothing to do with dalit issue. Morever, its strange that writer/journlist writing this without any prior knowledge of the Dalit incident. I found it stupid journilsm to gain attention by jeopradising the facts of a current hot news. For the very very poor knoweldge base of the journlist, Bhajan Lal belongs to Bishnoi community which is a sub-community of the Jat Community. He may declare himself a non-jat leader but that can't change his community. The journlist needs to take some General Knowldge classes before writing such decepting articles.
