Two Perspectives of Women

Trust and the freedom to chase dreams is the best gift for anyone, but it's still a distant dream for many Indian women.
Lemme share with you two different perspectives of women in the form of these poems.

Human nature is such
That if you sit, they'll say, "No, don't sit."
And if you stand, " What's the matter? Walk!"
And if you walk, " Shame on you, Sit down!"
If you so much as lie down, they'll order, "Get up!"
If you don't lie down, no respite, "Lie down."

I'm wasting my days getting up and sitting down.
If I'm dying right now, they speak up, "Live."
If they see me living, who knows when
they'll say, "Shame on you, die!"
In fear, I secretly go on living.
--- Taslima Nasrin

Now the other view -

I'm going to move ahead.
Behind me my whole family is calling,
My child is pulling my saree-end,
My husband stands blocking the door,
But I will go.
There's nothing ahead but a river.
I will cross.
I know how to swim,
but they won't let me swim, won't let me cross.
There's nothing on the other side of the river
but a vast expanse of fields,
But I'll touch this emptiness once and run
against the wind, whose whoosing sound
makes me want to dance.
I'll dance someday
and then return.
I've not played keep-away for years
as I did in childhood.
I'll raise a great commotion playing keep-away someday
and then return.
For years I haven't cried with my head
in the lap of sloitude.
I'll cry to my heart's content someday
and then return.
There's nothing ahead but a river,
and I know how to swim.
Why shouldn't I go?
I will go.

P.S. None is the result of my creative outputs. Read somewhere, felt like sharing, so is it.

I have been trying to keep alive
then somebody comes and suffocates me
Because others feel i breathe too much
and i inhale less for their happiness

If i laugh and try to smile
and people feel Jealous
They blame me for being A HUMANBEING
cuz they failed to be a HUMAN

But in their inhuman acts
they always forget that
I cried with them more than
I laughed with them

In this process called LIFE
I am SUCCESSFUL
Because i started LIFE after one DEATH
and People fail Cuz they are LIVING JUST TO DIE

so true. and equally ironic is in both the aspects women suffer: in the former one 'secretly' in the latter one explicitly. former is called agonistic and the latter rebellion. but in any case rebel is the better way to ventillate your ire, i personally think so. but then irony he "all over the world women speak just one language--silence".

PS: I am trembling with the thought that now some gentle ladies will object and say it's good that women are oppressed, else you know if it becomes a female-dominated reign, everything will devastate here. (Sincere apology to such "male-oriented females". ha ha)

Wonderful & true ! Not just Indian women, everywhere we can come across women living with many a kind of perspectives towards their individuality, and their approach in this regards. Few women are always on their toes to rebel, and some others can die, if they are told to! But, most of the women carry many a kind of shades in their single personality ! Many a times, they are as soft & ever ready to compromise, at some other times they are as firm as a stone, no one can shake their detemination. I think a single women carries many a perspectives in herself, but it depends on the situations around which one will step its foot first & when!

Naazon Andaz say Kehtay hai ki Jeena Hoga.
Jeher bhi detay hai toh kehete hai ki pinaa hoga,

Jab main peeta hoon toh kehete hai marta bhi nahin
Jab main marta hoon toh kehete hain ki Jeena Hoga....

Bahut Khoob Deepak Ji, The qawalli is one of the best ever... for those who cudn't recognize... the lines are from "Ye Ishq Ishq Hai-Ishq Ishq, Ye Ishq Ishq Hai-Ishq Ishq" in "Na to kaarwan ki talaash hai, Na to humsafar ki talaash hai..."

In this process called LIFE
I am SUCCESSFUL
Because i started LIFE after one DEATH
and People fail Cuz they are LIVING JUST TO DIE

Very well Interpreted!

On this LIfe-Death relationship, few more lines -

The reason death sticks so closely to life isn't biological necessaity- it's ENVY. Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it, a jealous, possessive love that grabs at what it can. But life leaps over oblivion lightly, loosing only a thing or two of no importance, and gloom is but the passing shadow of a cloud.

Interestingly and ironically the woman quoted by you herself has been a touble face for women in this part of world... those who have been reading newspapers are aware of what i mean. . . .

Her pain is very much visible in her quote after she was issued a fatwa in Bangladesh - “I came from a country where religious fundamentalists, including governmental authorities, denied my freedom to have thoughts that are different from their own. As a punishment, they demanded my execution by hanging. I was forced to leave my own country. I had to pay heavily for the sole reason that I believe in human rights and freedom of expression.”

Marna tou hei ek din sabko,Par uss din se pehle kyun marna
Jab ye sachchai hei ke sab ko sirf hei ek baar hi marna
Tou phir har rozz kyun jeete-2 hei marna
Gar dekho ge phoolon ki taraff tou mehsoos bhi khushboo hogi
Aur garr phanss gaye kantton ki vyakhya mein, tou phir tou padde ga hi marna

Par kon bachaye ga usse gar usse aata ho sirff marna.
