Isnt it unfair. We treat women all the time, we take them out, pay ofr their shopping bills, feed them at fancy restaurants, and then do everything all togehter again on Valentines day. :D

This is because contrary to what you believe that 'Girls are Dime a Dz', it is the other way round!!!! LOL...

Thans to all friends

Dear Jatland Friends,

Thanks to all friends who has sent their views and it is necessary in democratice country but we have to see also our moral value and our society value first. Love is O.K. but "fuhadpan" or "dikhawa" is not necessary if you want to propose somebody, then why 14th February.

Thanks

Hi

Firstly,I have not put first Question of Valentine on this site.I just expressed my views and I thing I have right to do that, If "NO" then let me know I will GIVE UP THIS SITE.
You people are talking about customs, traditions, values. Yes, I do agree with you, India is an ocean of knowledge. We have every thing in India be it language, be it knowledge, be it anything then why people are sitting abroad.. They should be in India.
Greeitng cards are on diwali, holi, birthday and so on V day.If Indians can adopt their language(I mean english), latest technology, fashions and what not then ..................? V-day.And even Muslims celebrate V-Day, manatey to hai strength kam sahi so what
If people are not accepting our customs, traditions, they are also not forcing us to accept their customs and traditions.

aankh moond ke na chalya karte! chalye hi Jaabae tae log Hindustan chod ke boosre desh main pauch jaha hi.

Its depends on individuals way of thinking,And no thinking is alike

Here is a news item.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * No girls to marry, Haryana men go bride- shopping
(Jyoti Kamal, CNN-IBN), Updated 1144 hrs IST (+GMT 5:30), 14.02.06

Chochra (Haryana): The low sex ratio and a consequent dearth of marriageable girls in Haryana is leading to a bizarre practice. When girls are not available, there is no option but to buy them from distant areas.

A case in point is Poonma Devi, who lives in Chochra village in Haryana. She is not a native, but belongs to Paonta Sahib area bordering Himachal Pradesh and Uttranchal. She was brought to Haryana for marriage as her husband's family could not find a suitable match in and around their area. It is a common practice in the state to bring girls after paying huge sums of money.

"Girls are brought from Uttranchal and Himachal for marriage. Fifteen to 16 of them are from Uttranchal, Dharamshala etc. They are brought by middlemen and agents and some are also bought through acquaintance," a villager, Anil Kumar, said.

Poonma Devi may look different with her features that set her apart. But like many other women she has settled into the village life in Haryana. Upon asking how she manged to reach the village, she gives a vague reply. "People came from here searching for someone and asked me to marry here. I myself said yes. Then my brothers came and found out here and said okay. I then said yes and got married," she said.

The entire village is a witness to similar women exchanges and there are at least 15 to 20 brides in Chochra bought from places outside Haryana. However, this figure is not confirmed since any attempt to find out whether these women have been coerced into marriage is avoided.

The village Sarpanch (head) says there is no option but to get women from outside. "There is a shortage all over Haryana, India, people do wrong things and abort female fetuses. It is a very wrong thing. Bad situation in villages. Men say they want to get engaged. How can I do it? Where are the girls? All over India it’s the same, bad state," Sudama Ram says.

Surprisingly, there are several posters in the village that profess against women trafficking labeling its as immoral. Despite this, brides are being bought and exchanged and with it, it has brought another curse of female foeticide in many villages like Chochra.

What a pity, een angrejan ne mhari roti aur halwe ka bhi na bera aur hum unke gobar nai bhi chaat chaat khagye. Apne festival kad ayen aur kad chale gye kise nai nahi bera pat ta par Valentine Day ka intjaar 3 mahine pahle se hi karne lag jate hain. "Mera desh mahan aisa hi chalta rahya to sharmayega shaitan". God bless our present day laila majnus.

Disappointment hui ki ek Senior Citizen and using such a language.

To phir Hindustan chod ke USA nahi jana chaiye tha.

Reena ji,

Bura maan-ne ki baat nah sey. Sehrawat ji USA mey hain par unko apne Indian customs se kitnaa pyar hai ! Mey-bhi USA mey raha hoon, aur ab Switzerland mey baitha hoon - par na to apni culture chhoddi aur nah european culture apnaayee. My family too is in USA and we never celebrate such a non-sense event.

You have earlier said Muslims also celebrate V-day. NO ! Maybe a few of them in India only ! Nowhere else - in USA or in Europe too where they are living for centuries. Reason? They are sensitive to their traditional values unlike our youngmen and girls who are an easy target for Western commercial interests for making India a huge bazaar with 110 million "consumers".

Even Chritsmas has been commercialised by these vested interests to sell their products. And there is a hue and cry among European societies that people are forgetting Jesus Christ and X-mas is being celebrated as a funfare, rather than a pious festival.

But if elderly people in India warn the younger generation against this V-day business, they are called backward or 'Dakiyanoosi'. What a pity !

Your quote from earlier page:
aankh moond ke na chalya karte! chalye hi Jaabae tae log Hindustan chod ke boosre desh main pauch jaha hi.

- Aankh moond kar hum nahin chal rahe - ye V-day manaa-ne wale Indian youth chal rahe hein. 15 years back, there was no such thing in India.

Bilkul Theek....

Just to put things in perspective. Below are some of the quotations from well known people about India. We are our biggest enemies... Though this may seem irrelevant here, but at least people would read it because V Day ke chakkar mein abhi to bahut kuchh kahna sun na baki hai...

It is true that even across the Himalayan barrier India has sent to the west, such gifts as grammar and logic, philosophy and fables, hypnotism and chess, and above all numerals and the decimal system. - Will Durant (American Historian, 1885-1981)

Whenever I have read any part of the Vedas, I have felt that some unearthly and unknown light illuminated me. In the great teaching of the Vedas, there is no touch of sectarianism. It is of all ages, climbs, and nationalities and is the royal road for the attainment of the Great Knowledge. When I read it, I feel that I am under the spangled heavens of a summer night. - Thoreau (American Thinker)

If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India. - Max Muller (German Scholar, 1823-1900)

The Sanskrit language, whatever be its antiquity is of wonderful structure, more perfect than the Greek, more copious than the Latin and more exquisitely refined than either. - Sir William Jones (British Orientalist, 1746-1794)

The surgery of the ancient Indian physicians was bold and skilful. A special branch of surgery was dedicated to Rhinoplasty or operations for improving deformed ears, noses and forming new ones, which European surgeons have now borrowed. - Sir W. Hunter (British Surgeon, 1718-1783)

After the conversations about Indian philosophy, some of the ideas of Quantum Physics that had seemed so crazy suddenly made much more sense. - W. Heisenberg (German Physicist, 1901-1976)

In the great books of India, an empire spoke to us, nothing small or unworthy, but large, serene, consistent, the voice of an old intelligence, which in another age and climate had pondered and thus disposed of the questions that exercise us. - R.W Emerson (American Essayist, 1803-1882)

In religion, India is the only millionaire......the One land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for all the shows of all the rest of the globe combined. - Mark Twain (American Author, 1835-1910)

It is already becoming clear that a chapter that had a Western beginning will have to have an Indian ending if it is not to end in the self-destruction of the human race. At this supremely dangerous moment in history, the only way of salvation for mankind is the Indian Way. - Dr Arnold Toynbee (British Historian, 1889-1975)

If there is one place on the face of this Earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest day when man began the dream of existence, it is India. - Romain Rolland (French Philosopher, 1886-1994)

In India, I found a race of mortals living upon the Earth, but not adhering to it, inhabiting cities, but not being fixed to them, possessing everything, but possessed by nothing. - Apollonius Tyanaeus (Greek Traveller, 1st Century CE)

Very well said!!!

Lets respect each other feelings.

We exchange gifts & greeting cards on all Indian festivals, why its big deal when young people do the same on 14th feb. Everyday is holi/diwali/V'day for a happy person.

If you go to ISKON temple, in Stockholm, you can see more goora people singing bahajans & performing pooja's then Indian people.

Have a great v'day.

Maine kya galat kaha hai.I just said If u love ur India why ur abroad thats it. Phir Kyu desh chod chod ke ja rahe ho.
India se Pyar hai Phir bhi rehna videsh main hai, mano ya na mano.

I think you have not read an article in Danik Jagran.Pls go through that article. Moreover ,If V-day happens to be the origin of India then it will be definately acceptable to all. As far as customs, tradition, values are concerned, if you are really so bothered about these come to India and do some work to save custom traditions values which you thing is affected by this so called V Day business.
Really a pity!

Goora people singing bhajans does not corrupt their society, nor does it commercialise Iskon.

As far as that report in Dainik Bhaskar is concerned, its about expression of love between husband & wife. Not any and everyone.

Dear members

Well i dont know who is roght or wrong but upto some extent i feel there is no harm in celebrating a day for expressing love. Afterall we all are in 21st century so dont think its wrong anyway but its upto u guys whether u want to go ahead or not. Well those who have problems they can stop their family and frends for doing this. Afterall india is a free country.

No comments for V-day ....apni apni choice hai....
but what you are saying about people living in USA and their love towards the country...I have a little objection...

pahale toh aap ye link padho, aapko pata chalega ke NRI india me kitna paisa bhejte hain...
http://ia.rediff.com/money/2005/dec/08remit.htm?q=tp&file=.htm

aur paisa kamane ke liye aadmi ghar se bahar jate hee hain....isme burai kya hai....agar jayda log bahar aayenge toh desh me berojgari kee samasya kam hogi......;) agar koi aadmi Delhi se Bangalore service karne jata hai toh uska Delhi ke liye love kam ho jata hai kya??????? this does not a lot of sense to me that if you love your country why do you go to USA......

Valentine day manane ke saath saath thoda apne khayalat ko bhee modern kijiye...

Abhee bhee agar USA walon se koi dikkat hai toh aapki marji....

Dear Reena,

You have every right to object to language. But I stick to it. It's not that I have anything against VDay. I am very much in USA and have seen people celebrating VDay in US too. Here, I or my sons don't celebrate VDay but definitely celebrate our own festivals. Exactly a month ago we had celebrated sakrant and enjoyed desi ghee ka choorma. Here VDay is celebrated in true sense. People here celebrate it with love, decently and in full knowledge of their parents. There was hardly noticeable here. Whereas in India Vday means something else. On this day indecency is at its peaks. Those who disagree, go to Connaught Place or Chankya cinema next VDay and see yourself how young kids, barely 15 years behave publicly. VDay is for expression of love. I admit it is a good thing to let the other partner know about one's feelings. But crossing the limits of decency is no expression of love. Let's face the truth. Parents of how many Vday celebrators in India know about the boy friends of their daughters or vice versa. In USA people visit each other's house to present flowers. Why can't they do this in India? Because they know from their hearts that it is not our festival and is totally against our culture. Still they don't want to lag behind in proving their ultra modernism. It's not love but sheer "pakhand" and "dhong".

Incidently, this epidemic has not spared even the so called modern jats. I wonder how many of them know about sakranti, teej and googa festivals, leave alone their knowledge of seedha or kothli !!!
