life is like a stage where we all have to play a role....
so keep going brothers...:)

Peace and Happiness, thats it for me:)
Par Navin bhai, aapne na likhya kimme ak ke chaahiye:p

Yes We all do seek Happines most of time,But on this path to find happiness ,I guess many of us are unhappy.Yeah, surely we can proceed for peace and joy, which is much inner aspect that require a lot of acceptance and introspection.Like Buddha said ,we can fulfill our neccessties but never fullfil our desires. So its up to us what we require.

Yes, though we may strive for different goals, our aim is common i.e to achieve happiness.
Peace is also a form of happiness, so is joy.
We want happiness We desire happiness We crave happiness

What is happiness? Why arent we happy?

Basicaly Happiness is subjective and relative emotion. When we fail to understand this,I think main reason to be unhappy.
Happiness is sort of orgasmic feeling, which occurs rarely, while peace and joy regular contemplative stages eliglibity for them might be a condition where we detach ourself from fear of success of failure, which leads to Freedom.
Freedom<--->Peace<---> Joy.
Here is one link to thread where i wrote abt something abt Happiness.

What do we want from Life?

Very difficult question Navin!
Iska jawab jaante to bhagwaan na ho jaate..:)

Well, wanna share these words of wisdom by Marie Curie here, quite relevant and indeed very true:

"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained"

So, perhaps what matters the most is self realization, which I'm afraid we fail to attain and hence dont know what we want in Life resultig into never ending discontentment.

So, if you will ask me, I dont know (not as yet may be)...:)

Happiness occurs rarely because we associate our happiness with very rare events like say a moment of success or victory.
We dont associate any happiness with our very existence, the very sense of being, the breath, the sight, the sound, the silence. We could be happy all the time.
Peace is something we get when we are happy with how we are and how things are.
When we live our life with a sense of extreme joy and pleasure both in being and not being. An etreme sense of happiness.
Peace?
People hunt for it when it is within. Some find it in self torture like tapasvi log, lord mahavir found it in that. Because self torture destroys the self and you discover peace.
Budha found his answers
1. there is suffering in this world
2. the suffering has a cause
3. the cause is desire
so to eliminate suffering eliminate desire.
I differ a little. The cause is not desire but attaching your happiness with the success of a desire.
If no desire then why live.
When you face and experience death you realise the extreme pleasure in being alive, in your very being.
When you discover the extreme joy in your existence, the desires, their very being and their success and failure, all add to your extreme happiness. Your entire life becomes a state of extreme joy.
Budha might not have found the complete truth(he didnt need to) but he found complete satisfaction/happiness in his search and existence. Just like a sadhu who sings bhajans in his worn out and old clothes and finds extreme pleasure in doing so.
Have i found the complete truth, no?, maybe not but do i need to find it, i am loving searching for it. Searcing for more things to add to my state of extreme joy.
If what we have is not enough to be happy, nothing ever will be.
If happiness is what we look for, let us be happy to begin with and then see what we can do to add to it.

Very philosophical but true.

Navin, couldnt disagree with ya, but you know easy said than done, agar hum ye sab kar paate to insaan nahin hote..

How many times we hear Live life to the fullest, life is not a destination..it is the journey ....but hey, we are all human souls not machines which can be programmed , neither are we GOD or reached anywhere close to divinity (there may be a handful!!), we are full of emotions and as long as we are human our lives are gonna go haywire for sure if something drastic/adverse happens with us or our dear ones. It will affect our state of happiness no matter how steady we want it to be. But, life sure goes on regardless of our consent.

I hate unsolicited advices..:) , but if one would ask me , my advice would be: Stop wanting anything from life, just keep doing your duty you are supposed to do or you think you must be doing and the rest would follow.
Waise actually Gita gyan bhi to yahi hai: Karam kar phal ki chinta mat karr.
Well Navin, thanks for starting yet another philosophical, "food for thought" thread...:)

thanks Poonam for appreciating my thoughts
See, if we keep telling ourselves that something is difficult, we make it more improbable for ourselves to accomplish. It is like the saarathi of karan telling him again and again that beating Arjun is difficult so finally Karan also lost his confidence.
Yes, we all hear these positive statements but why we are not able to follow it is bbecause we dont spend time convincing ourselves about them or even thinking about them where as whole day we spend most of our time thinking how bad/difficult life is.
Its not difficult it is just a realisation, either a moment is enough or a lifetime is less, to realise it.

Navin Bhai,

Happiness/Joy comes as a result, when we are at peace and not the other way around.

Poonamji,

God, Creator, the Ultimate power or whatever one wants to call it has given us intelligence, free will and method to achieve peace and harmony within and around us.

regards,

Deepak

Poonamji,

As we are discussing, pls dont take this is as a unsolicited advice:)

Life is to live and nothing wrong in wanting from life. By stopping wanting from life, it will not stop giving.

Life gives us the opportunity for our spiritual evolution provided we are are aware and alert about it.

That quote you gave is the most profound one provided one understands it in its "entirety".

Deepak

And God Said No

Though source of everything, God has created in ourselves, all we need to be eligible for that to see that ultimate truth...Happiness,Joy,Peace all are attainable.Once acceptance is there. Here is contribution from Claudia Minden Weisz (the mother of a Rett Syndrome child). She has written something very beautifuly.Just a sharing..

And God Said No
I asked God to take away my pride. And God said "No".
He said it was not for Him to take away, but for me to give up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole. And God said "No".
He said her spirit was whole, her body was only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience. And God said "No".
He said patience is a by-product of tribulations. It isn't granted, it is earned.

I asked God to give me happiness. And God said "No".
He said He gives me blessings, happiness is up to me.

I asked God to spare me pain. And God said "No".
He said suffering draws me apart from worldly cares and brings me closer to Him.

I asked God to make my spirit grow. And God said "No".
He said I must grow on my own. But He will prune me to make me fruitful.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life. And God said "No".
He said He will give me life, that I may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me love others, as much as he loves me.
And God said "Ah, finally you have the idea!"

Yes! Source to happiness, freedom, peace and joy is ------>Love,love And love to every creature.

What we want from Life ?

Most of us will answer in Happiness and Peace. Whenever I am faced with this question , I also find myself saying, I want a Happy and Peaceful life. But the main problem arises as suggested by Naveen is - what is happiness and why we aren't happy?

Few points given above by Poonam, Naveen and Samar all important in a way or other. Geeta says beileve in Karma, done expect or desire, but as Naveen said why not desires, then whats the aim of life if we dont seek to attain something in life? This attainment may be different for different people. For some it may be material success while for some it may be realization of the potential to the fullest, which we term as Self-Actualization in Psychology. So is the Index of Happiness, it can be different for different individuals. Some are happy over very little little things in life; whereas some not happy over big achievements. So the happiness as I feel is being related with the satisfaction or contentment in life. If one is satisfied with life, ll feel happy also, But if nt satisfied, then heaps of prosperity, grandeur, achievements may not make you Happy. Being satisfied do not mean one is content and do not aspire for any thing more. aspiration or goal setting and attainment comes step by step, in hierarchy; one achieved, you set to attain the nxt step.

A simple incidence comes to my mind from my college of my students. Last year a girl scored apprx. 78% marks in aggregate and was 2nd in college, when she came to college for admission in final year, and met us, she was very happy, beaming with joy, more over when she got to know abt her position and called her mom to give the news. A brilliant girl in ever aspect I wuld say. Same day after some time the other girl came who was first in college scoring 79. something % marks, when she came and we congratulated her, what to see , no reaction, forget about happiness. When we asked her isnt she happy, she replied, I was expecting more, if wud ve got few more marks, 80 % ho jate. And I would say an average girl except the academics. That made me ponder over this relationship and analysis of happiness, acivement and satisfaction comparing those both reactions. So its not only the achievement, along with that what is important is your attitude, your positivity towards it. These will decide whether you are satisfied and happy or not ! Positive attitude, positive thinking, and so positive statements as they help us develop a positive thinking n attitude in life, are very important indexes for satisfaction and happiness in life.

Deepak Bhai,
thats the point i am trying to make.
Happiness comes as a result because we want it to come as a result. e.g i will be happy if i get/chieve this or that
We hold our happiness til the result.
Lets be happy to begin with is what i am saying.

hi

well brother what i seek is my family,s happiness, my parents happiness , rest all doesnt matter do me much.

I've lived somany lives... but i'm still not old

I just wanna live upto ma parents expectations.. n give them.. all the happiness in this world.

.. n yeah.. ahem..ahem...a date with Alicia Silverstone..;)

what we want

Dear Navin

We agree or not every human being is having his own philosophy of life and accordingly he or she percieves his or her motive of life. In a class society no body is neutral even if one claims so. Neutrality goes in favour of stronger one. First of all one has to be a good human being. A good human being will always be a good son, daughter, doctor, engineer and so on but not the vice versa. Now the difficult question is how to define a good human being? At least a self centered person cannot be a good human being, person having gender biases cannot be good human being, person with an orthodox vision is difficult to be good human being. a person having good sense of logic and scintific temprament with a feeling of kindness to others can be in that category.
Let us discuss the quality of good human being . Few I have tried to articulate.

R.S.Dahiya

Indeed

Well, this debate/discussion could go on forever. However, here I wanted to share these strong and wise words once mentioned on this site by Jatin (don’t see much of him these days!) and the moment I read them that’s it. No way can I escape the eternal echo in my mind whenever I come across Life! I bet you will experience the same once these imbibe into you. Thanks Jatin for THE words, it pretty much sums up the whole thing:

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Wow! What a run!"

It sums up Poonam ji,

It is not the destination but the 'journey'. It is not importent what you achieve but how you achieve. Therefore enjoy the journey. Does it really matter at the end what have we achieved. Probabley most of us would look back and ask ouselves in disbelief, "was it worth to sacrifice every moment we could enjoy"

Cheers!
