I am not agreed with you. Actually corruption, injustice, economic exploitation, social evils, casteism and all other so called drawbacks of India according to you, are part of all countries, ages and eras. Even in the era of Rama, Krishna and Buddha there were thieves and other bad people. Each county consists of bad and good people. You say India polluted, but I tell you USA is No. 1 pollution creating country of the world which generates around 21% of world's carbon gases (responsible for global warming). Actually to become good is very hard thing. In any school there can't be all students gold medalist, only chosen ones can do so. If any school produces most no. of gold medalist students it is treated as good school. India has produced a lot of great persons than other countries. So undoubtedly it is greatest in world. The positive things of modern India are; we are almost unaffected of recession, we are getting good in sports, ISRO is doing great job for India, we have film industry almost equivalent to Hollywood, we are smartest in world (we are neither habshi looking, nor whites looking (skin like swine), nor chinese or korean looking (shorty), we have Khali like mighty and stout human beings, we are nuclear power, we are country of over 1 billion people, we are largest democracy---the list is very long brother.

After defeating Ravan in the war, Vibheeshan requested Ram and Laxman to visit Lanka.

Ram and Laxman were absolutely struck by the beauty of Lanka. The ponds were crystal clear and the way to get into was studded with diamonds and precious stones. The buildings were of fine architecture and the roads were very neat.

Ram was spell bound and was getting attracted to the beauty of Lanka. But he refrained himself from further seeing the beauty of Lanka by saying

Mostly Indian Children Have One Father

India is the pioneer of whole world. Russian, English like languages have been adopted from Sanskrit. Whole world is performing Yoga at present. Many others things like that.
Can anybody tell me about such people in any other country who kicked away their wealth and luxurious life for their country? Gandhi was a qualified lawyer. If he wished he could have lived a luxurious life in abroad or even in India. Subhash Chandra Bose was also a qualified person who rejected a top job just for the sake of country. Buddha left his palace and gave in his princely life just to solve the mystery of life. In India, most of children have their faces like their parents but in abroad (especially in whites' country) mostly children have so much fathers that their faces don't match. Though India is not inferior in any field but to console themselves if some people (settled in abroad) think so, then nevertheless we are better than those rich (whites) who have spread AIDS and swine flu like diseases all over the world.

The thread is about "what do you like about India?". I am myself a big critique of my country and like many others I crib about negatives, corrupt system, deteriorating culture/values, hypocrisy etc., but in this thread I would stick to the positives of my country.

Undoubtedly negative examples galore but so are the positive examples. Let's all, for sometime try to focus and think about the positives of our great country. We abuse her everyday but why not praise her here. Our motherland has been very grateful to us, she has provided us with the richest natural resources and conditions. It was us who brought her to a whatever her present condition is. Then why shall we criticize her, we are the culprits and we got to suck it up.

1) The best thing I like, infact Love about my country is the National Anthem. Every time I hear it, I get goosebumps. Infact my foreign friends were also touched by the music and musically they find it more superior than theirs.
2) The second thing I love about my country (stated earlier in the thread by others) is her rich History. It is history and doesn't really help us now, and we failed to capitalize on it, nevertheless we cherish it and are proud of it. There is still so much to learn if we are ready for that.
3) Diversity - This might have been the contender for the first position, such a rich diversity is seen no where else but in India. We have our own mini world. Every state and region is startlingly different from others. I wish I could explore my country in depths.
5) Festivals - I live in a foreign land, and I miss my country most during our festivals. There is no substitute for Holi, Diwali and other regional festivals of India. India is one place I want to be in, for the festivals.

Couldn't agree with you more. One of the dichotomy of this nation is "Gandhiji" and his cronies are the father of this nation, nothing could be further from truth, this nation was founded by Raja Bharat, son of Shakuntla and Dushyant. Once the nation is founded how can it be founded again, how can you have two fathers? Did this nation disappear from the face of planet and was later founded by the great adventure of Gandhi, Nehru--NO. This nation was always there, we have lost everything that was Indian--all of which is taught in school books, made movies. Our past glory is merely a footnote in history, mere aspirational imagination.

And I know some members will cloud this issue by blaming western countries etc. But keep in mind we are talking about our birthplace, our country, our nation.

We Indians are emotional people, we want to live in history and nostalgia, we aspire for some utopian nation, we are the people who never want to face reality. Reality of this nation is diametrically opposite to our Vedic History. We are among the most cruel, self serving, back stabbing, treacherous, low self esteem, lacking any pride, strength, character and moral values, manipulative among our peers in this world. We never get tired of preaching and sermonizing others.
Don't take me wrong we sure do have company in this matter.

Coming to main topic what I like about India...here is my list
1. When other civilizations were building pyramid, gargantuan towers -- India was developing society based on vedic values and character of humility. Believe in humanity, established the principle of Live and Let Live.
2. When rest of the world was busy in persecuting people for their beliefs, we gave them asylum and protection from persecution
3. When some misogynist, delusional, uneducated, suffering from little man syndrome desert nomad was preaching hatered we were building universities where education about pursuit of happiness was taught and debated. Our universities were teaching the path of nirvana that was not based on dogma but on karma.

Though there are a lot of things I like about India, but I will try to tell about these one by one. This time I am telling about this quality of India which makes it No. 1 in world. Actually India has lowest divorce rate (1.1%) in world, which means Indian women don't have a number of husbands like those countries, which top this list (Sweden with 54.9% and USA with 54.8%).
(Actually as I have not posted more than 15 posts so far so URLs are not allowed to me but for knowing the facts interested guys can type 'divorce rate in the world' in google search engine and find the datas there.)

Bhai I hav read in a book that National Antem was originally wirtten by Ravindernath tagore & some line modified by Motilal nehru to appraise King Goerge V & queen of england in 1919
that is why Punjab sindh gurat maratha mentioned there which were under british rule at that time not others like kashmir, raj. etc. which were under indian ruler or Indian Ocean/Arabian sea which were under poutegese rule.
