Not Difficult at All....
Dear All,
The essence of morality is not in its literal meaning but in understanding as to how mankind has conveniently altered its meaning to suit the needs of an individual, group, society and even nationally. The matter is far too complicated to be proved either way. It has also become almost impossible to evaluate one’s own deeds on the morality scale when the scale itself is manipulated. Therefore, no clear logic or explanation.
A long time back I heard a speech. I think it was by Osho (I am not his follower) or someone else. The subject matter was about ‘Conditioning’. The gist is that a human being is akin to an Onion. Most of us must have enjoyed an Onion with our food in a village. I remember we used to keep the onion on the cot and smash it. Sometimes the inner most part of the Onion used to escape the Onion, the part which is the tastiest. Now a human being's 'Antaraatman' is like that innermost part of an Onion.
Now the speaker equated that innermost part with our real self; innocent and not yet corrupted by the ways of the world. He equates the numerous layers around the self (as in an Onion) to various veils under which the true self remains hidden or suppressed. These veils or layers are those of religion, customs, traditions, culture, society, caste, color, region etc. A human being shall remain trapped under these veils and the real person can never escape from these layers. Complicated! Yes indeed.
It is also a proven fact that when humans cannot follow simple rules, they complicate the matter, as in religious texts and the manner of most discriminatory traditions. For example: A SC/ST can’t draw water from this well. Or, only I can interpret the word of God and you shall follow. Should you sin, I shall decide the punishment as per the text which you can’t understand or interpret.
The simplest learning after reading all texts was derived by a wise man and he said the following two things:
1. There is no greater ‘Punya’ than helping other human being and no greater ‘Sin’ or ‘Paap’ when your actions cause pain to another human being.
2. The ultimate gist of all religions is: Jo Vavyahar aapko apnee aatma ke particool na lagee, vah doosron ke saath mat karo”.
Arya Samaj lays down few basic principles for a meaningful life. They are so simple that most of us find it difficult to follow it.
I believe all those who want to find the true practitioners of morality can do so by remembering how our ‘Bade Buddhe’ lived their life; least complicated and with simplicity.
I hope there is some sense in what I wrote?
Regards,
JS Malik
