System administration is just a start towards system engineering which has got lot of scope in the future. Even developed countries where saturation is coming in every sector of technology is seeing great growth in this sector. In india , it would grow even more faster. When system infra management started back in 1990s , it was very simple but over the period of the time this grew very fast and you would need atleast 4-5 years to get good understanding. You would get less competition as very few people dare to play with unix and linux systems.

As per my personal opinion - starting with linux and unix is great opportunity.

Totally agreed with Ranveer.
LINUX Admin will be a far better and promising profile than PHP developer.
Best thing is that PHP can be learnt by any programmer anytime by self learning, case is not at all same with LINUX Administration.

I will suggest go with Linux Admin position. That job has the most growth potential.
If and when you become linux system engineer and proficient in backup like NetAPP, NetBackup, you have more potential of growth. there are no more than 10000 (very good) Linux Engineers in the whole world. These engineers are able to write perl script that pretty much automates their entire server farm.
If you can manage enterprise environment, you will be golden.

I hope it helps, do let us know what you decided

rajiv,
If a person doesnt know abt LINUX or PHP then how can he decide which one will make him happy... :)
I do believe a B.tech should know what is php and what is linux and what is development and what is maintenance.

What inspire me to work continuously 40 hrs at 40 its development only not maintenance.
