As the country will be voting for their new PM in 2014(If we dont go for an early poll) here is a quick brief info about the most probable candidates.

The chances of getting a PM candidate from Federal Front(if that exist) are bleak but you can never be sure in politics. I havent included the likes of Advani and Shiv Raj as it is highly unlikely they would be in the race. Feel free to talk about the parties they belong to as well as long as it is centred around these candidates.

You are welcome to cast vote and provide reasoning for your Vote. Just letting you know that its an open poll means other can see your vote in case you dont want to put your political views in public.

Candidates info:

Manmohan Singh : Born in 1932, Age 80. Belongs to Sikh Community, Kohli Clan.

+ Points: He is widely regarded as an intelligent man, who is well read and understand the world economics very well. Holds lot of degrees, has comparatively cleaner image. He has already served as PM twice, has been a successful Finance minister in the past. Heads the biggest party in the country.

- Points : He is already more than 80 years of age. He is widely considered as a weak PM. He hardly speaks on the main issues and is touted as “Maun Mohan”. Economy wasn’t great under his regime. Inflation was uncontrollable, Rupee sliding down. Even though he had “clean” image his Govt was one of the most corrupt. Allegedly remote controlled by Sonia Gandhi. Not very clear on Foreign policy.

Rahul Gandhi : Born in 1970, Age 43. Belongs to famous Gandhi Family.

+ Points : Belongs to the Gandhi Family and has greater control on the party. He is young and doesn’t have the “videshi” tag like Sonia.

- Points: Despite having the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] in line of the ruling party doesn’t speak much on key issues. Little is known of his views on economy, currency and foreign policies. Doesn’t have any experience to run even a state ministry.

Narender Modi : Born in 1950, Age 62. Belongs to a middle class grocer Gujju Family

+ Points : Is widely regarded as an effective administrator. Has a good command over his party workers and colleagues. Have clear ideas and can articulate them well.
His state has progressed under his 10+ years rule. He is a crowd puller and is voted as the most deserving PM candidate in polls conducted by reputed media houses. Very popular among middle class all across India (esp. North). Apparently most popular candidate of the second largest party. Has raised the politics above the caste level and talk about development.

- Points: He is accused of “not doing enough” or supporting 2012 violence in Gujarat. Often criticised that his policies favour industrial groups more than the lower middle class even though agriculture has an exceptional growth rate under him. Blamed of “communal politics”. Little is known of his foreign policy.

Lalu Yadav : Born in 1948, Age 65. Belongs to a Bihari yadav family

+ Points : He is a great politician and can beat even the best of ‘MBAs’ when it comes to ‘Jugad’. Has wealth of experience in Indian Politics. Has lot of experience in running Bihar state in the past.

- Points: During his rule in Bihar he was accused of lot of scams. He is hardly serious over major issues and often talks illogically. Don’t have respect among the Indian voters. Failed to make a positive impact during his rule in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar : Born in 1951, Age 62. Belongs to a Bihari Kurmi family

+ Points : He is an experienced administrator at both centre and state level. Has good command and respect among his party workers and colleagues. Have made good progress in Bihar and is acceptable to the “secular” parties.

- Points: It appears that he is not ready for the bigger role yet. Has acted immaturely during his split with BJP. Little is known on his views regarding the major issues. He often only talks about his own state and could be hard to trust.

Mamta Benarjee : Born in 1960, Age 52. Belongs to a lower middle class Bengali family

+ Points : After the split with congress has established her own party and eventually became the CM of the state which speaks volume about her ability. Good Speaker and can pull the crowd to an extent on her own. Has some experience at the centre level.

- Points: Has done some opportunistic politics in the past. Can lose temper in public easily. Can’t tolerate criticism and her recent crack down on the people who spoke against her hasn’t helped her image much. Little is known about her views on the bigger central issues. Doesn’t look ready for the Top job yet.

Mulayam : Born in 1939, Age 73. Belongs to a UP Yadav family.

+ Points : He is a self made man and has rised to the heights in political circle on his own. He is a very clever politician and is accepted to the “secular parties”. Has some experience at the centre level.

- Points: He was accused of corruption in the past and still has some cases pending. Little is known about his views on financial matters. His foreign policy isn’t very clear. Hasn’t left any positive impact in his state during his rule in fact at times the graph has gone down esp on crime rate.

Mayavati : Born in 1956, Age 57. Belongs to a middle class family in Delhi.

+ Points : Has raised to the CM level of one of the biggest state from grass root level. Has made dalits a political force. Undisputed leader of her party.

- Points: Her rule in the state will mostly be remembered for corruption more than anything else. Not much is known about her views about the issues at central level.

Damn man...Mulayam / Mayawati as PM?? The country would be doomed the day we have these thugs as PM.There are no PLUS points for them at all. How can these 'PLUS' points benefit the community let alone country ? ek bhediya hai dusri lomdi.
I wish Manmohan could speak. He was a terrific Finance Minister and honest man (not sure now). If Manmohan could take decisions on his own, he is better than Modi any given day. I think MMS is probably on the wrong side of the fence.

Bhai if Fedral or third front wins they have to make PM out of these people. Isnt it?. So they have a chance however as I mentioned it is bleak.

Honest?! not at all. He is supporting all corrupt deals. Every big decison on policies is made by Prime Minister Office.

Economic reforms took place in 1990 because there war no other option left for government. Reforms were not intentional.

Others, but not sure who- may be too early to make a decision or may be none of them seem worth it. Although I would have personally wanted Pranab Mukherjee, probably the best PM India never had in recent times. He had the knack of keeping all allies in limits.

There should be more options like Sushma Swaraj, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, P Chidambram.

I think a PM who cannot make decisions on his own is the worst of all. He couldnt stop all these scams neither did he resign. So he has to take respocibility of what happened under his regime. However I still have doubt that he would have gained financially himself. Moreover he is 80+. The ability to make quick decision in this age isnt very great.

एक नंबर से लेकर दस नंबर तक नरेन्द्र मोदी ही प्रधानमंत्री के योग्यतम प्रत्याशी हैं। :star::victorious:

Bhai va videsi jat he desi hoti to de dete usne bhi moka sa.

वह जरूर विदेशी मूल की महिला है, जिसने हमारे देश में शादी की है और आज हमारे देश की नागरिक हैं।

Bhai abhi 'Eitihasik shodh' ka natija aane do, ke bera iske pittar arr mere ale pittar ek panne/gaal ke likad ave... :semi-twins:

:triumphant:

I dont htink he even stand any chance but Out of all the names mentioned above, Lalu would be the best bet.He was pathethic as CM of Bihar but he did wonders when Railways minister. Any leader who has come up the ladder from grass root they know the problems faced by rural India, Shivraj singh Chauhan will be better too because he too is also attached to the ground level and understand the people/issues. Current PM never fought any election so how he can know about the basic issue or problem faced by them. In 1990 , i'm not too sure but i think world bank also played in pivotal role in defining the policies of govt because they took the loan from them.

PM MMS will meet the same fate as PV Narsimha Rao, congress will disown him down the line (may be in decade or so) to put blame of all the scams on him just keep Gandhi and party name clean.

You said it in sarcasm but this is true Goyat. Anything wrong in it? She is definitely a citizen and on top of it she is even MP(elected not nominated) of our nation representing people in parliament :)

Ok Lalu is definitely a clever man however PM is a different ball game. He couldn't prove himself in Bihar. Running a ministry and running the whole Govt are two different things. For Chauhan I didn't include him because his chances are less than 1%, in my opinion, though he is an able administrator.
