why r we not scientists?

Jats r known as hard working people. What they once determine they complete that task.
In various fields Jats do leading works, but i never heard any Jat being a scientist.
Everyone knows that more of Jats are farmers
and some who live in cities are connected to farmers as their background.So the occuring of the idea in their minds to become a scientist is rare.And some jats who think to become scientist are not inspired by their families as their background is full of farmers where the idea of being a scientist is very difficult to occur.
I m a student studying chemistry in First Year
in Rajasthan University. I wanna become a scientist.Whenever I talked to JAT boys to know whether they have ever thought to do something in sceinces . They all showed reluctant. There is a wish in all our community to get job earlier whether the job is inferior.
Our community dont struggle in the field of studies.
SO THERE IS A NEED TO INSPIRE JAT BOYS AND GIRLS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO EXCEL IN SCIENTIFIC STUDIES TO DISCOVER AND INVENT NEW THINGS, SO WE CAN ENFAME OUR COUNTRY AS WELL AS OUR COMMUNITY.

Dear Mahendra,

There are quite a few number of Jat scientists in almost every research organisation in India.

1. BARC Bombay has many Jats and some of of them are Directors of their divisions. Secretary of Atomic Energy Regulator Board is a Jat from Distt. Muzaffar Nagar (UP).

2. There are Jat directors of IIT Roorkee and New Delhi and both are scientists of repute in their subjects.

3. IARI, PUSA has lots of Jats who are contributing immensely in Agriculture sciences. First Indian scientist to reach Antarctica was a Jat, named Giri Raj Singh Sirohi from PUSA, Delhi.

There are Jats in cutting edge technologies like Plasma Physics, LASER Physics etc..

Our number is fairly respectable in Science. May be we haven't won prestigious awards, but we are very much noticable.

I think you are very true what your are saying and there is surely a need to make ourselves realize that a scientist has great lot of potential in making a country and community competitive. Apart from country and community a scientist has an obligation of inventing new things that can be productive for humanity as a whole.
And Mahendra, I really appreaciate your ideas and concerns regarding this topic.

Open any ariculture univ website and can see so many jats working as an scientist there as any other caste people.
Need to look around urself before making any statements.

i am agree with mahendra that there should be efforts to make more scienctists in our caste but this issue that we are not scientists is not true. there are so many Jat Scientists in various institutions in india and abroad also. i know one of them is Mr. Rathi from Distt. meerut who is senior scientist in NASA, USA. so, we are on a progressive way but it should be in more quantity. thanks

Jats are everywhere today

There is no field in this world where the jats are not there.I am working with Defence R&D Organisation as a scientist and there are a couple of jats around me.I accept that the number is not that large but as you are aware of the fact that in earlier days most of the jat community use to reside in remote villages where chances of getting quality education were very less.But now the scenario is changing and so is the contribution of jats in the intellectual fields.Everything takes its own time and so is the case with this situation.
Dear Mahindra - You can make a difference by becoming one.I know one of my collegue who is a pass out of Rajasthan University.His field of specialisation is also same as that of yours - Chemistry.And above all this you'll be glad to know that he is also a jat.In case you need any help from him regarding how to become a scientist then you can mail him.

So buddy work hard because ur caste or community doesn't decide your career but its your attitude and the pain you take to achieve whatever you aspire for.

Today Jats are in all the fields. here is one more scientist working in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). I agree with mr. rajendra that jats are head of many research organisations in india, in our time director off IIT Delhi was a jat only.

Probably you have not gone through other threads in this EDUCATION forum. there is a thread by Kajal titled MS and Ph.D's @Jatland , though many of us has not put information there, but still u can see some of us listed there. and some are in Chemistry as well.

Jat scientists

It is baseless perception that jats are not scientists. If one sees Australian, North American and several English universities and research centres, it's going to be eye opener. Given that Jats are such a small community, I believe we can even beat the Jews so far as number of scientists is concerned in proportion to population.
 
Dear Mahendra,
We should make more scientist, I do agree but we are doing remarkable work in different fields. Actually our population is less but if you can compare it with our achievements you would definitely find the difference.
We should atleast respect you devotion towards our community.

I am a scientist (plant biochemist) working at Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR), Lucknow.

It is not that Jats are not enough scientists and a head count on it may not be required. Of course a directory of scientist on Jatland would be valuable as for other professionals.

Even enumeration can not be emphasized by citing the scientists working in a US or elsewhere or by the top position in the decesion making in India or abroad. The positions of decision making (in India or abroad) or prestigious awards are a matter of great pride for Jats as also the individual scientific contributions in its own way.

In 1991 while working at Queens University Kingston, Canada, I had the opportunity to talk to Noble Laurate late Prof. Chandrasekhar and the summary line that he gave was that his contributions to the field from India would have been more satisfying even if less in quantum as it would have added to the glory of the self, the community as well as country.

Overall, strength of scientists in number and contribution is upfront both in India or on global basis. The strength in holding decision makers or getting prestigious national/international awards in science is of course quite low particularly keeping the strength in view. The issue indicates lack of rational patronage (beaurocratic and political). Nevertheless, Jat scientists have managed to get their science seen and recognized.

Although it would be over-emphasizing oneself, I have been fortunate to get following national/international awards:

1. International Union of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (IUBMB) Young Biochemists Award at Taipei (1992).
2. CSIR Young Scientists Award (1993) in Biological Sciences given by Late PR Kumarmangalam, the then Union Minister for Sci & tech
3. Prof. Umakant Sinha Memorial Award of Indian Science Congress (1998) by the then Prime Minister Sh IK Gijral.

My wife (Dr. Mrs. NS Sangwan) is also a scientist and she has won follwing national awards:

1. Indian National Science Academy Young Scientists Medal (1993)
2. National Academy of Agricultual Sciences Award (2001).

So what is required is have our presence in positions for rights of competitive accreditation and prohibit prejudices against us everywhere.

In nay case let us continue to strive hard silently and incognito (the Jat spirit)

I think you are not fully aware before writing any generalized statement.
I think you better contact Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Indian Agriculture Research Institute and various institutes of such repute and you will find lot of scientists inspite of being jat working profusely.

there are lot of young jat boys in scientific organisation.
all of them below 30.
if it is required, i can give the names.
i my self is working in NPCIL as scientfic officer.
