I don't know where I read but it is estimated that Bangladeshi population in India is around 3 crore .. Exclusive JJ Colonies for Bangladeshis and Biharis were established in Delhi by Shiela Dixit.Even Delhi has more than 3 lakh Bangladeshis with valid voter card,ration card,etc.
Due to large infiltration,Muslim population in West Bengal has exceeded 40% and even in Assam,muslim population is increasing at large pace.Clash between Bodos and Muslim was due to this reason only.
I think Bangladeshi immigrant situation in India is much like the Mexican one in the US and we should definitely look at allowing Bangladeshis to work in India legally with permits etc. This way we can tax them for the money they earn. They obviously fill a gap in the blue collar/domestic help workforce and that is why they have managed to survive for long. Why not allow free exchange of labour between BD and India and treat it like trade.
Situation in India might be different, there are plenty of Indian willing to do the jobs that Bangladeshis take and often their income is not enough to generate direct income taxes.
I would disagree slightly there. Its not only about the 'willingness to take jobs' but also 'willingness to take it for lower pay' and that is where I believe they manage to undercut the market.
I understand that their earnings are low but millions of them paying rs 500 a year (a ballpark figure) as work permit fees can amount to a lot.

Not only Bangladeshis, India it seems has become a dump yard for all the other unwanted ethnicity.
'Unity in diversity' is a SLOGAN which we all have grown up hearing. If that be the case, why is there stress on inter-caste and inter-religion marriages so that there is at least uniformity if not unity? All these are hypocritical pseudo-ideology pushed down the throats of helpless Indians by the Congress party since independence.
If you travel to Delhi, you will see so many African nationals anywhere and anywhere - metro, hotels, markets, etc. Nobody knows what they are doing in India. If studying, is there any check if they are actually still enrolled (as is checked in the western countries)? If they are working, do they have a valid work permit? Why are so many African nationals caught peddling drugs and indulging in bank frauds and other forms of illicit trade? I have to say here just for the sake of criticizing AAP and Kejriwal, even the BJP is playing the dirty game of siding with the African nationals just as the Congress takes the side of Bangladeshis.
It appeared in the media that in Goa there are in fact villages/clusters owned and controlled by the Africans and also the Russians where they do not allow access to Indians. These villages/clusters are dens of drug peddling and other forms of illicit trade and activity.
Similarly, parts of Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar, etc. have abundance of Afghan population of which I am sure there is no account maintained if they are actually on valid visas and if they are not overstaying their visas? In fact, near Saidulajab, there are scores of Afghan Dhabas serving Afghan cuisine to the countless Afghan and other Middle Eastern aliens staying there.
For God's sake we are already a very diverse country. We do not need any further diversity. Slogans like 'Unity in Diversity' seem more like a helpless attempt to deal with the already existing diversity and look good on Social Studies books. India already has a large population but limited resources. These politicians need to be kicked on their butts if they do not act and kick out all the aliens who are putting pressure on our limited resources.

There are couple of Jatlanders who can challenge if you say anything bad about Pakistan. They would even say the present condition of Pakistan is not because of ISLAM it is because of right wing/fasicts/Saffron etc.
Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they can't live here if they have valid visas.
Lolz. Valid Visas of Bangladeshi infiltrators. Yes , they do have valid visa and they can fight a holy war on that.
Demographics got changed sharply in Assam over last decade and now locals ( Indians ) face communal riots to access their own resources. But I think still onus is on local Assamese (Indian ) people to provide proof of valid or invalid visa of Bangladeshis to government & some intellectuals then they might take some action.

That kind of large scale illegal migration upsetting local demographics needs to be stopped. A direct result of a lack of action is a battle for limited resources which culminate in violence like Bodo-Muslim violence last year.

Now continuing the discussion , I would say it is an example of sheer anti-national activity done by the establishment/government/intelligence/law-enforcement which harmed compatriots & challenged the sovereignty. It already disturbed vulnerable north-east but sadly to say it will make hard for India day by day to keep north-east intact. Most of this illegal migration/settlement of Bangladeshi nationals happened during 1971-1991. Now who is responsible for it ? which party, government, national & local leader ? who should be charged with this Desh Droh , if the definition of nation India have not changed since 1947.

But I don't think that will solve the problem. In that Gov's report it was mentioned, BD govt refuses to take the illegal migrants back. That leaves us with a bigger problem.
Lets not be cute here. Maybe its very hard for you to understand, but judiciary needs the support of the bureaucracy and the political reps to be able to do anything. All three have to work in tandem to be effective. This only happens rarely.
BD government even refuse to take back illegal Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar today . But peace loving Islamic nationals of India protest demanding Indian govt. to ensure justice to Rohingya Muslims & desecrate Amar Jawan Jyoti in protest. Neither Congress govt could ever prevent illegal infiltration from Bangladesh nor they can punish these anti national miscreants in India.
Muslim leaders in India openly give warning of second wave of Islamic terrorism to parliament if govt. doesn't help illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Assam riots. These political parties & leaders openly advocate providing shelter to even Rohingya muslims. What is the punishment for Asaduddin Owasi who conspire with Badaruddin Ajmal and openly help Bangladeshi rioters of Assam.

Threat to violence is unjustified and perps should be punished.
Support for refugees isn't limited to Muslims alone. We have people here advocating India sheltering to all Hindu refugees too (eg. one post in this thread). Can't use different yardsticks.
On a side note - I wonder if the same noises about illegal BD migration would have been made if the majority of BD migrants would have been Hindu instead of Muslims. In fact uptill 1971, most of the illegal BD migrants into Assam were Hindu escaping religious persecution. I guess no questions asked about them since they were Hindu.
Good question but there is a fundamental difference between Hindu and Muslim migrant. Hindu till 1971 was running away to save his and his family life. There is a humanitarian angle here as well as per international law you cannot deport somebody back to a country where there is a danger to his life. Muslim migration is purely for either economic reason or strategic reason.
As the governor of Assam says in his report we need to come out of this false secularism.
