The first lesson taught to us in Amity Business School was

Profit is the only motive for any business

ofcourse if we are not talking about Non profit making orgs.

But surely a way can work out for backward areas too. In my opinion, Haryana govt can put some restrictions or liability on the Business Houses as a social responsibility, which corporates do take under their belt to develop the underdeveloped part of Haryana from the chunk of profit they make from the Profit making SEZs.

Either govt can subsidize those areas or it can itself take a part of profit which it can use to provide money to people who want to work in those areas.

And this wont be an exceptional case, we see in Telecom Sector, Ministery of Telecom takes away a huge amount of money as license fee and then a certain % of profite( I Guess 14) is also charged from Service providers.

If it can work there, it might work as a boon here too.

We give you business, provided we get ours too.....

I don't think its so simple. Physical infrastructures like railway, airports alone are not enough to develop an area. Had that been the case, places like Gaya in Bihar would have deloped long ago. Mr Bansi Lal did a lot to improve Bhiwani infrastructure but could not make it attractive enough for outsiders to invest there.

RK Uncle

We can surely try to establish some Heavy industries here, they will not only provide employment to the uneducated youth by absorbing them in labour class but also will be a boon to the economy of Haryana.

Recently, we saw LEvers shifted its manufacturing plant from Assam to Uttaranchal because of the BODO Problems.
With any point in consideration, i believe Bhiwani would surely have been a better option for them but then one really should see the way Uttaranchal govt is inviting industries and luring them with what not.

Whereas HAryana is loosing the advantage it has because of the geographical location.

Please correct me if am wrong.

RK Sir, When Bansi Lal ried to make Bhiwani beautiful, it was 20years ago Even Gurgoan was not developed then. Moreover Bansi Lal forget the basics, he just wanted to gve the cit a face lift without adding anything toit like industries or educational institutes as Bhajan Lal did for Hisar adding GJ University. Bansi Lal did not think about increasing the job opportunities which could have the city beautiful slowly.

These industrialists need subsidies and tax breaks mainly, and I give you an example of Baddi in Himachal pradesh which was far worse then Bhiwani and compared to Bhiwani it is still worse even today. How developed is utranchalcompared to this area of Haryana where industries are setting up and that is because of incentives given by state govt.

And if not Bhwani then there are many other parts in Haryana like Karnal but again politicians will only get incentives from industrial houses if they provide them with the land they want.

I agree in principle to everything you say but in practice the things are not as simple. I am sure Mr Bansilal must have tried his best to get even Maruti factory to Bhiwani but logistics must have not been in favour at that point of time. There was a time when Bhiwani was the only place for whole North India to go and get cataract operated and we all know where it stands now. Places like Bhiwani can certainly develop. However, it’s the local talent who have to find the potential areas of development. I am sure any state government would be too happy to facilitate the same. Governments often play by the demands and can not force enterpreuners to go to a particular place. Fact is that places like Gurgaon, Noida etc are developed more by Delhi people and not by Haryana politicians. When land prices in Delhi went sky high, people looked to nearby areas for their housing needs. Catch word has always been the distance from South Delhi and not any other part of Delhi. This is the reason why even Sonepat could not develop as it should have. I therefore give no credit to any Haryana politician for the development of Gurgaon.

An interesting phenomenon recently, i am not sure whether people have noticed it, is that the poll has swung from YES to NO for empowering Chautala. It will be interesting to know "why".

Shamsher ji and RK sir has a point to note regarding SEZ and Education.

This is Jatland and the trend is very much as expected. Jats will always remain divided almost on 50/50 basis. Whoever gets support of remaining communities of Haryana, will always be the CM.... I therefore see no hopes for Mr Chautala.

RK Sir, I agree with you but my point is that no govt yet has taken steps in last 10-15 years to develop these areas.
There is no govt policy regading bringing industries and SEZs in these areas. No incentives has been declared for setting up SEZs in these areas. Govt has not taken any step even to make the industrial houses think about these cities. If subsidies and tax breaks are declared for industries in these areas only then these businessmen can think. Businesses care about there profit and when they see the places for making profit they will keep it in option.

Now my question is that why there is no policy for developing these areas and insentives to the business houses for setting up there operations in these areas. This is where Delhi is prefered because govt donot have a concret plan and insentives for other places.

If the offers are lucrative, then may be it will start from small industies and operations but there is nothing in the offer which can make the businesses think about these areas. I would have agreed in total to your views if govt has made offers with better insentives for these areas along with the SEZs in Gurgoan but unfortunately govt is not even considering it, then how can we say no business will come to this area. This answer sounds like hypothetical to me given the current policy of the govt.

My last two questions..
! Has govt declared any policy or incentive for business in these areas of Bhiwani, Mahendargarh etc?

2. Do you think govt need to give subsidies and tax breaks to SEZs in an area which is highly prefered by businesses and developing at its own?

This reminds me of a story of a father who had two daughters. Elder was below average looking and the younger was very beautiful. Whenever the potential groom came to see the elder daughter, he opted for the younger one inspite of all the dowry incentives for the older. Moral of the story is that tax incentives don't change logistics of business and many other factors. Countries like Saudi Arabia have almost zero tax, where as Europe has very high tax. Does that make Saudi Arabia any attractive to investors?

Bogus argument Chacha.

Tax incentives play a major role in business decisions! How could they
not? They affect the bottom line. And that is what business is about.
A 5-10% tax break is substantial.

Obviously it is not the sole criteria for business decision makers. But
a very important one.

I would agree with many of the comments made by Shamsher.

Our governments are too busy striking business deals (and in the
process pocketing a lot of money), and less focussed on creating
general policies, laws, infrastructure, (etc.) which should serve
as broad based incentives for companies to invest.

Bijli, paani toh yeh sarkar de nahi paati, business deals karne ke
liye utaawale rehte hain. Lagta hai bijli paani dene mein unko
koi munaafa nahi hota hoga.

Hooda govt. needs to focus on some basics. I don't want
to be critical on its efforts to bring in industry, as there is obviously
tricke down benefits to the common man as well. But for the most
part its benefitting the "already haves". Not that that is wrong in itself.
Enabling wealth generators is good. But a govt. needs to ensure that the
common man is protected, and that clear cut mechanisms are in place
to benefit the people (and especially the people at whose cost these
businesses end up benefitting).

Gurgaon ke charon taraf incentives dena konsi badi baat hai. Hooda
govt. ne konsi teer maar di ? This would happen with them or without
them!

Chacha, vaise yeh story he bogus hai. Economic argument toh bogus hai
he, lekin social argument bhi bogus hai.

In the above scenario it depends on many circumstances. If the guy
is independently wealthy, he has little incentive to marry an ugly
woman for getting a few more peanuts in dowry.

On the other hand, if the guy can't feed himself, I think he will go
for the extra help and marry the ugly one. Bhooke pet toh "sundarta"
ka bhi ko sawaad koni !

And then how ugly is ugly ?

We can throw in various variables in the mix and completely change the
decision making process.

I am sure you must be aware of these social dynamics yourself. We see
these all the time. We may not often make decisions that are fully rational,
but even the "maulad gaonwala" throws plenty of rationale in his decision
making.

[In this case, the "maulad gaonwala" would be smarter
by taking the ugly one, getting the extra dough, and then ensuring
the pretty one visits often. ;) :D ]

RK Sir, I just asked two specific questions and this is not the answer for that. Moreover you are contradicting your own story, the govt is giving lots of dowry to marry the beautiful one (gurgoan) and they have no plans to marry the ugly one( Bhiwani, mahendargarh etc) and no offer of Dowry but assuming that someone will fall in love with them someday. You have contradicted your own story when we compare the actions taken by the govt.

Can you quote any sratement by the govt where it has declared any incentives for business houses to operate in these areas. No, you cannot, because there is no such step taken by the govt yet...then how can you assume like this.

Why to give subsidies and tax break to SEZ in gurgoan and Panchkla...so called the beautiful girl by you.

Please answer my two specific questions asked earlier and no story. I have already told you the stoy of an ugly girl still enjoying the honeymoon even after years of marriage...I am pointing towards Baddi in Himachal.

And please donot consider me anti Hooda or pro Chautala, I want to see development all around irrespective of religion, region and cast.

I again repeat my questions....
1. Has govt declared any incentives for businesses to operate in these areas of Bhiwani, Mahendargarh etc.

2. Do you think govt needs to give subsidies and tax breaks to SEZs in an areas which are highly preferred by businesses and developing at its own.

I expect very straight answers to these questions.

Investors of today are far more smarter than these governments and know very well how to extract the maximum. They will marry the beautiful one and make other to take care of their kids...why settle with a visiting one...hahhahaa

A lawyer by profession Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala had his political lesson early in age from his father. Mr. Shamsher Singh Surjewala, a former Haryana Minister. Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala was first elected to the State Assembly from Narwana Assembly Constituency in 1996 and second time in the year 2005 by defeating the then Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala.

And i guess someone was challanging right in starting of this thread for an election in Narwana bet. Mr. Surjewal and Mr. Chautala.... and he claimed Surjewala wont even be able to save his Jamanat...
Thats why i thought of sharing what i just read somewhere.

Bhateeje,

Don't know in which world you are living. Do you think Indian businessman or for that matter any businessman in the world does not know how to save taxes and cook up revenue books ? Sate governments have announced hoards of such taxes in past and we all know how businessman have misused the incentives. India is now almost like a free economy and only market forces will play... You can not sell something which does not suit an investor. Businessman will certainly move to interior parts of India once going gets tough in urban areas. No amount of incentive will help unless investors themselves are convinced of viability of new location.

Are ooo Chachaji aapne mere do sawalon ke jawab naa diye ab tak.

Baki I think Kuldeep Bishnoi has tried to get more compensation for land aquired in Gurgoan...may be due to any reason...something good for Jats.

Secondly if Bhajanlal leaves congress then Hooda cannot win at all and thats why they are tolerating them...it's Bhajan Lals vote base keeping him in congress otherwise he would have been shown the door.

So donot under estimate the power of Bhajan and his Lals.

Baaki aap boora mat manna aap kati 100% congressi ho or aap ko congress ki buraye yaa haar ki baaten achhi nahin lagti. Ab ese aap chahe yahan mano yaa naa mano...but it's evident.
