Egregious-
Archaic meaning was eminent and distinguished. Basically remarkable in a good way.
Now it usually means remarkable in a bad way, gross, outrageous, flagrant.

Usage:
Rajiv had expelled the more egregious members of his mother's inner circle, but only to install his own favorites.
 
Apocryphal-
Of doubtful authorship and authenticity.

Usage:
There is an apocryphal story that in their first meeting, Dhirubhai told Rajiv that he was holding a huge amount of funds on behalf of Rajiv's late mother and wanted to know what to do with the money.
