Bhind

Bhind (भिंड) Bhind Tomar (भिंड तोमर) Bhinda (भिंडा तोमर )^[1] Bhindar (भिंडर)/(भिण्डर तोमर)) ^[2] ^[3]Bhinder (भिंडर)^[4] is a Gotra of Jats in Punjab, India and Pakistan. Bhindar (भिंडर),Bhind Tomar (भिंड तोमर) Bhindtanwar/Bhind Tanwar (भिण्डतंवर)^[5] ^[6] Tomar(तोमर) is same tribe of Jats of the Lunar branch of the Tomar Jat Rajvansh, through its eponym, who settled in the Punjab under Rai Tomar. Found in Sialkot. ^[7] They were supporters of Tomar Confederacy. ^[8]

Origin

The gotra Bhind derives its name from Bhind town in Madhya Pradesh. ^[9] It was founded by Bhind Tomar a sub gotra of Tomar Jats. ^[10]

Ram Swarup Joon^[11] writes....Bhind are of the Tomar Gotra, but as they came from Bhind part of Gwalior, they came to be called Bhind. They are found in a very small numbers. Chiefs of Pisawa belong to Chabuk Tomar Gotra and chiefs of Nogaja in district Jullundur also belong to this gotra. According to "Todd's Rajasthan" residents of Bhan were called Bhind.

Ram Sarup Joon^[12] writes that...About 70 Jat Gotras joined the Gujar force and started calling themselves Gujars. Bhind is one of them.

The Bhinder are found mainly in Gujranwala and Sialkot districts. Bhinders from Ludhiana and Jalandhar are settled in Faisalabad.
