Creative Movies of all Times

Its a very nice movie Jit, I was great that despite it being a movie on boxing, it all about how he stands up for his family's survival.....
hummmm.....I'm curious if some of u've watched Russel Crowe's 'Cindrella Man' lately....if u've not u simply missed something.

Its an awesome boxing movie....really great, one of the all time best boxing movie. Certainly better then Rocky 6!

Rock on

American Chai very 'cool' for a change!

Recently, happened to see this low budget movie with mostly unknown cast except Paresh Rawal. Awesome music with a synthesis of East and West.I liked it very much, may be because i was going through a similar face in life.
I think most of you who live overseas might have seen this.

Yep, I've seen it and quite liked it...:)

'Blood Diamond'...
A very classy and interesting movie with an important reality check associated with it.
[Leonardo DiCaprio has definitely come a long way from his 'Titanic' chocolate boy looks, and is awesome as the tough/gritty South-African mercenary.]

I thought the movie really visualizes the ongoing and constant genocide in Africa and also more importantly; all the huge/yet unknown politics behind the diamond mining industry in a powerfully packaged way (Hollywood style) and if reports are to be believed then last heard all the big Diamond houses of the world were protesting it’s release and sending out their own propaganda messages on how they have only ‘clean’ and legally accounted for mined diamonds.

Ladies; have your man get you that diamond ring only after having first verified that it was legally mined in the first place and has the papers to prove it. You see, we all can unwittingly play our lil' part in furthuring the genocide if we are not careful.

Anyways, a geat movie...Watch it!

I second this review......

p.s. Even Sierra Leon's government has come up with schemes to get people visit the places where diamond mining is done to see that its all proper....
try http://www.onesky.ca/diamonds/index.html

Anyway, the Kimberely process refered to at the end of the movie has been in place for quite a while, dont know how effective its been....But must watch this movie...its reality in your face about that coveted diamond!

Traffic Signal

Inspite of a sad review, I really liked that movie

It really shows the misery in which street people live, how the signal industry thrives... a must watch

Wow, the 'Kimberly process' and everything, eh? Seems like somebody was paying attention in the movie all right!....[Gotta say this girl is wired right and sure knows her diamond's!] ;)

...and oh by the way; it's not only acting in a movie with global issues like this one; this guy Leonardo is one of the rare Hollywood stars that actually drives around in a hybrid (go green) car himself...so there! Also I personally thought his heavily accented South-Africa English dialect dilevery was quite well done!...

'LOHA' with Dharmendra and Mithun.
Now this is what I call a real movie.
Forget wimps like Russel Crowe, Matt Dillon, Leonardo De Caprio, Clint Eastwood, Keanu Reeves, Salman Khan, Sharrukh Khan, etc. They can't hold a candle in front of Dharmandra. And what a list of supporting cast who play diverse characters like Lukkabhai (Mohan Joshi), Tandya (Deepak Shirke in a hardhitting cameo), Salim Chikna (Harish Patel), Takla (Rami reddy), Mustafabhai (Shakti Kapoor for once playing a good baddie whose hands are chopped off by Lukkabhai), corrupt Inspector Kale (Ishrat Ali)etc.

Watch Dharmendra pull and bring down a chopper with his musle power here http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-2147998885283098861&q=loha . Who needs stinger missiles when you have Dharmendra in your army.

Now watch him catch a bullet with his bare palm here http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-2494189329690778526&q=loha . This was a generation before Matrix was even coneptualised.

ANd finally we have an actor who has won three National Awards (Shahrukh Khan is still to win one, Saif and Amitabh have won once but that was more due to political influence than their histrionics ), the one and only Mithun Chakravarty (Arjun) who provides a fourth dimension to the film and takes it to an altogether different level.

The dialogues in the films will make you shiver even in the heat of Sahara. Just listen to the opening sequence that features Lukka and tandya engage in a verbal slugfest. Shakespeare might be itching to come out of his grave and take another potshot at writing a new play.

Watch out how Shankar, Arjun and Mustafa bhai come together to help avenge Shankar's misfortune and break Lukka's evil empire.

A total kickass. Kanti Shah masterpiece. Mother of all cult movies.

hahahaha  :) 2 thumbs up to remind this awesome movie!!

What a creative review :) Rajiv

nice to see a new Genre of movies getting discussed here.

I cant remember the name of the movie, but Mithun was really good in that movie with rajasthani rural backdrop, it had dharmendra and a lot of other well known actors and actresses....there was a very nice song starting with a strange language...sunai deti hai jiski dhadkan....anyone knows the name??

He is definitely one of the best actors of his age......

Ghulami (1985) is the film name. "mukhda" of this song is simply good

Zihale Masti Mukand Ranjis Bahare Hizra Bichara Dil Hai...
Sunai Deti Hai Jiski Dhadkan..... Tumhara dil Ya Hamara Dil Hai......

Thanks Jit and Priti.
I have watched Gunda but it was not a match for Loha, although gunda is also a Kantishah masterpiece.
Loha is simply out of this world. You can't watch it at one go. You have to watch it in snatches of 15 minutes else you end up looking for a bucket of ice to dunk your head in.
Can you tell me where can I get 'Do Qaidi'? I would love to watch it.
Thanks.

Naaah, no worries on that front at all! Already got myself a great looking babe for keeps! ;)

You are bang on about the westerns though! They are da bestum best!!!
Yup, and love those Clint Eastwood ones... lemme recommend 'For a few Dollars more' (or maybe you already have wtached it)...

Try his;'Unforgoiven', 'Pale Rider' too, both are awesome! I know some more of his great spaghetti westerns and will write about them in the next one, once I recall a few!

:) Now that we're talking of Westerns, well I'm also a diehard fan or addict rather. Clint Eastwood is GOD ofcourse!!

anyways saw this movie called Tombstone way back. Had Val Kilmer in a smash of a role. awesome yaar. i think his character was called Doc Holiday or somethin. had Kurt Russell also.

Actually it's Zihal-e-miskin, makun baranjish ki taab-e-hizra (different from hijra -- eunuch;) ) bechara dil hai

It's in Persian and Hindi. Inspired by Khusro, adapted by Gulzar -- see gulzar also lifts sometimes.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Went to see 'The Namesake' along with a friend but only to find that it was sold out. Anyway, had to kill time -- the crowd was not good;) -- so bought two tickets of 'The Pursuit of Happyness' only to find a posse of beautiful girls arrive!

"To hell with the movie. I'll prefer roaming around outside," I told my friend. So we decided to sell the tickets but there were not takers -- movie's name doesn't sound tempting, they complained.

Reluctantly, we went inside Audi-2, endured crap commercials whining all this while. But from the moment the movie began to the end of it, I was kind of spellbound. Redoubtable Will Smith came up with a performance of a lifetime while the li'l kid, who played his son, gave the seasoned thespian literally a run for his money.

Abundant with hilarious moments when you give a hearty laugh, touchy moments when you just smile and then feel guilty about it coz you ought not to have smiled, the flick just takes your breath away. You'll feel it's a part of your life that is being subjected to on screen narration.

To give you further proof, a compulsive philanderer like me noticed only when the movie ended that a cracker of a babe was sitting right next to me!

Not fair. Encore.

Pursuit of happiness

It was a gem of a movie....and Will Smith was at his brilliant best (and so was his little son in real and reel...some kids CAN act!)...without any props he carried the movie beautifully...just like you I was glued till the end...and to imagine its a real story and there would be so many such people who might have just given up on the verge of success...simple message told simply- never give up your dreams....

The Namesake

Its there in my priority queue though, lets see when will be watching.

Was curious to hear what you guys have to say of the movie, those who have seen. And how different (good/bad) is it from the book its adapted from.

Started reading the book, got stuck lil' after the birth of Gogol...:o But anyway, I'm determined to finish the book first, before I go for the movie..;)
