Creative Movies of all Times

Oyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee rgv ki aag ke bare mein vichar hai sathio
Mind blowin!
Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag is destined to go down the anals (n I missin something here?!) of the Indian film-making history as a defining flick. Just as the aspiring (and even well-established) directors and film makers today watch Sholay for Nth time to learn how to make a flim, they will look up to RGV Ki Aag to learn, even more importantly, how not to.
Yes sir, it is as bad as it can get.
Come and think of it. The film, at the first glance, has all the ingredients of success. A director who has proved his credentials as one of the best in Bollywood time and again (admittedly, he’s also turned a sorta megalomaniac which is but clear from the movie’s title – one of the first things that just put you off.); a star-cast that has the who’s who of the industry; a storyline that is unarguably a timeless classic and yet all we are dished out is this utter crap!
While the whole movie is a comedy of errors, my pick of the pack is when the Jugde finds Babban guilty of qatl aur avaidh apharan. For the first time in my life, I’ve heard of this word: avaidh apharan. I thank Ramu and his crew to help improve my vocabulary. Hope you all will also benefit from it.

Thats true! An awful movie! I couldn't even sit through the entire movie, just watched the initial 1hr drama and felt like I'm watching a "south-indian" movie....

As Usual.. with ur Bird's eye view....;)

Did you read Khalid Mohammad's review about the movie... ? Oh man.... wat a hillarious review it was,,, I felt content with that only... didnt feel the need to chk the movie after that.

'Sholay' kae aage... 'Aag' kya diye mein Chingaree bhi nahee!

... Imagine!
This Nisha Kothari trying to do a Hema Malini's 'Basanti'...
or Ajay Devgan a-la Veeru!??!... (The guy needs to first go brush his teeth or get a good dentist appointment before he ever tries a 70's 'Greek-god' Dharmendra again!)

...I mean I can go on on the comparison but let me just suffice and close-off with the comparison of Mr. Bachchan trying a Gabbar!!! Geezowizz!...That's it! I rest my case!
...did anyone for a second feel the same chills from this 'Babban' (sounds like some gali ka Doodh-waala) as the brillinatly grotesque and grinning Amjad Khan produced as Gabbar??????????... Amitabh was trying too hard to play the menacing outlaw, too much for the role's good!!!... (He should now just stick to playing the overaged-sexed up old man trying to run after younger heroines... ;))

But you know I loved the fact that Ramu ki 'Aag' (should have instead got all his Nisha Kothari's, Urmila's, Antral Mali's etc. and that would have been a more appropriate title for 'HIS aag'!) happened!...Because only when you look at these big banner, huge budget, big star remakes do you appreciate the original EVEN more!...(I mean; not that a Sholay needs to be redeemed by anyone!)...

Shame on you Ramu, and shame on you Amitabh and Ajay (of course, the rest need no mention, as one is yet to fully know who they all really are)...for daring to even try this and for excepting to work on this, respectively!...

"Yunkae, nishaana kaise maarein, duno aankhen to bandd hein!?!"....and like we all who went thru the torture of watching probably only the half-an-hour of bufoonery of 'Ramu ki... would say, "Lo Lagg gaya nishaana!"

Eee Aag ne phuk do tha kae

Lets talk about the good movies....

the last good movie I saw was Bourne Ultimatum....what a movie!! loved it...better than the previous two...Matt Damon has matured so much as an actor...he's amazing (more so because he termed himself as a 'boring' husband in a mag. ;)

so peeps, i leave the floor open for other takers of the Ultimatum...

Read that and righty said that the worst movie and worst acting awards go to Ramu ki Aag and Amitabh. Rajiv Masand's review was also good but for the part where he sings paean about Big B's acting. Masand's a pimp, you know.

The week Aag was released i was in hyderabad and it being the hometown of Ram Gopal Verma he was premiering the movie there at IMAXand i was supposed to be a part of it:eek:... unfortunately due to the blast it got cancelled and he was arranging a preview for his friends and family but at the last moment it also got cancelled:):):p

Bhagwan ne mujhe is movie ko dekhne se bacha lia aur review sunne ke baad to himmat hi nahi dekhne ki:p:p

creative movies

Perhaps we should create another thread called worst movies of all times and RGV ki AAG can be get the honour of being the first movie to be discussed in that thread.

As priti suggested lets talk about The Bourne Ultimatum ...

I throughly enjoyed the movie and think this is one of the best in the espionage/thriller genre for a long time. The pace of the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat and some of the action sequences are just brilliant. The entire sequence in Morrocco is execellent and the hand to hand combat looks real, infact you can almost feel the blows yourself.

Matt Damon has indeed improved as an actor. It's just a shame that his buddy from Good will hunting has not met with the same success he has.

Johnny Gaddar

It is really unfortunate that a movie like this one bombs at the BO with few taking a notice it while others -- bullshit served in the name of motion pictures and I am referring to the likes of Partner, Heyy Baby and that HR's...I forgot its name et al -- go on to become "blockbusters".

Move over Chak de (nothing to take away from it. An inspirational flick!), in Johhny Gaddar, we have the best flick of the year thus far. An out and out thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat most of time, in fact, all the time.

The movie is about an underworld deal gone awry when a gang member ditches others and decides to take it all.

Eh Hasina thi, showed Sriram Raghvan knows how to make a movie, a brilliant movie, I mean, and in JG he has just raised the bar. Too early to say but it seems he's Bollywood's answer to well...Alfred Hitchcock.

And it is not just the direction, acting and cinematography as well are equally compelling. And the way Raghvan has connected events is just superb, a la Quentin Tatantino.

The only part which comes as a cropper is the film's protagonist. Contrary to many a film reviewers who has waxed eloquent on Neil Mukhesh, the debutant thespian needs to hone is acting skills a lot. If only Sriram would've cast Saif Ali Khan instead.

The rest have done a wonderful job. Dharam paaji is good, but Vinay Pathak is great.

A piece of advice: Things don't make much sense in the first half an hour so don't jump the gun and leave the hall. 'Coz you won't know what you've missed.

Nice review

are you some movie critic?

Now that is flattering.

Nope I'm not. I am just another of the so many movie-goers who want a good value for the hard-earned penny(ies) they spend on buying the ticket. Unfortunately most of the time, we are taken for a ride.

Jhonny Gaddar!

Haven't seen 'Jhonny Gaddar' yet... would be waiting to catch it on DVD (unfortunately that's what we folks here have to wait for usually! :o)...

But I do understand (reading from somewhere) that this movie is a 'quote-unquote' remake of that old Dev Anand's starrer 'Jhonny Mera naam', or at least the story takes it inspiration from there ....is that true?

Of course not to say that it could not have made one up on that...in fact looks quite good in the promos, and your review seems to point in that direction too.

As to your accurate observation about those other pseudo blockbusters, I totally second that and what does p**s me off is the fact that this Hamesha Besharam-iyya's idiotic ode to auto-rickshaws (Aap ka 'Suarr'! as in pig!) goes on to make it good on the box-office!
In fact seeing him on Zee's musical program 'Saregamapa' these days talking about 'his fans' is fit enough to make one wanna reach into the idiot-box (if only) and smack his baseball-capped face!

First a disclaimer: IT IS NOT a Johnny Mera Naam remake.

Dev saab's (Dev Anand, ie and not a certain namesake of his -- You-Know-Who -- who happen to grace this webiste:p) JMN has played a vital role in the story and so has Amitabh's Parwana. The protagonist gets his fictious name (and the movie its title) from the former while the latter inspires him for his plot.

Sriram has made no bones about his "inspirations" and yet the movie as original as you can get.

When I was watching this film, I felt it was made by someone who had practically lived on Bollywood flicks. Someone who had bunked every class he could and saved every single penny from his pocket money just to grab a seat in the front stall of the nearest cinema hall.

So even if you have watched JNM or for that matter Parwana, you can be-dhadak go and watch Johnny Gaddar.

Got to lay my hand upon........(you guessed it wrong;))..... The Shawshank Redemption, one really good movie about a man sentenced for a crime he didn't do and spent 19 years in jail. Stellar performances by Mogan Freeman and Tim Robbins.

Well, Just watched 'Munich' !!

One really gud movie based on true incident of Munich Olympic 1972 in that 11 Israeli athletes were killed by Palestinian terrorist group known as Black September, In retaliation, the Israeli government recruits a group of Mossad agents to track down and execute those responsible for the attack!!

I must say one quality spy flick by Spilberg starin Eric Bana (Bana r gotra found in Jats too) & Daniel Craig (new James Bond)!!

All in all a must see movie for quality movie luvers....

Indeed a great flick but Bana's act was kinda fly in the soup.

After watching it, I am sure you'll have a lot more to add. A really profound pic.

There's one Hindi film loosely inspired by it -- "Teen Deewarein" (3 walls) by Nagesh Kukunoor. I've seen that as well and dare I say, even after being a loose inspiration it's a fantastic movie, not the one to be missed. I may go on to the extent of saying that it is the best Kukunoor has come up with so far.
