Well, we all must have met or been friends with gays/lesbians sometime in life, its just that we never realised it, as being a part of indian society its a taboo and we never give them the freedon to come up as what they are. We treat them as an unacceptable breed and look down upon them.

Why?? Just because they have a different sexual orientation, (again, m not sure if this word is acceptable, we really need to grow up if its not) that doesnt make them any less normal than us. They have full right to choose how they want to live their life.

Not accepting gays/lesbians in indian society doesnt ensure that there are no gays/lesbians or less gays/lesbians. They still exist in large numbers and our society is only supressing them, their life in India is a constant struggle to hide their true identity and lot of people related to them also suffer in this process.

Its high time we give them their right. Not only are we ruining their life but also of people related to them. Some parents dont accept their children being gays/lesbians and force them to get married. This is happening all around us...its only that we are not aware. I personally know a couple of people who went through this, and lot many stories i have heard through them. Sometimes under immense pressure to get married or be normal, these people are forced to leave India and move to US and other countries where they are accepted. Imagine leaving your family, frns, country to conceal your true identity...not fair at all.

Parents think that marriage will probably make them fine/normal. What we need to understand here is that they are as normal/fine as any of us, its not that they are going through some disease that can be cured, its just a state of mind because of which they are inclined towards a different orientation. In our country, marriage is such a sacred institution, not only for two people but for two families, imagine being tricked into getting married to a gay/lesbian and then either living all your life with it(again society pressure) or ending up with a broken marriage without any fault of yours. Most of the times, we Indians suffer because of rules and boundaries laid down by us/ancestors. If we accept the gay/lesbians and give them the freedom to come up as they are they can live a normal happy life, no one will be tricked into such a marriage, parents will accept their children (this is doubtful though ;)

One inicident I would like to highlight here. One of my very good frn is a gay and not by choice but by chance. He was molested for a long time by his cousin brother at the age of 8. And by the time he realised whats happening his mind and body was used to thinking that its normal. His life has been a constant struggle, first to accept himself the way he is, then to hide it from others. He even took doctors help for a long time to become (what we call) normal. He told his parents at the age of 25 when they were planning to get him married and now escaping mariage is another struggle for him. Imagine growing up under such a tense environment without any support....he is planning to move to US someday like all others.

I quoted this story to make people realise that sometimes its not their choice at all and they are always struggling to be accepted as normal people by frns, parents and society.

For all the parents, pls take care of your kids, this is just one incident i have given here, there are many such unfortunate cases.

Well i can talk lot more on this...lwill continue with the dscussion if the post is not deleted. So lets handle this post like mature people and i request it not to be deleted as its important to bring this to everyone's notice.

Lets give Indian gays/lesbians a chance to live a peaceful and beautiful life and with pride.

I don't have any gay or lesbian friends but I sure know a girl who is Bisexual. Also, being bisexual is a trend lately, especially with girls.

Yes, you should never judge a person based on their color, sexual orientation or their religion. A person should be judge by their character always.

Here in US, for a girl to be lesbian or bisexual is acceptable but not for a male. From what i see, gay guys still have a hard time. I can explain why lesbians or bisexual are accepted. We live in a male driven world. They control pretty much everything and it's male fantasy to see a girl loving another girl. Since majority of the directors are male, they always put some kind of scene with girl kissing another girl etc. Wasn't there some kind of movie in India where they showed two girl lusting over each other?? Also, males are homophobic, so they will make sure to never talk or discuss gay issues. As long you have males controlling media, you will always biased information shoved in your face. :-)

So, if u are lesbians in Indian society, you should be fine. If you are gay, good luck.

Reminds me of one man(??) in India who thought he(?) was Radha and declared his(her??) love towards Lord Ram. How beautiful he(she?) looked in the make-up...[:d]!

By discriminating them as gays/lesbians are we not being biased??? All are equal and have every right to live the way they want to. It does sound weird thinking about their feelings for the same sex but then that is how they are and will remain.

Let an individual decide the way he/she wants to live his/her life based on his/her sexual preferences.

Thanks,
Sumit

It sounds like "GALI"

Even 1000 books of 1000 pages each can not justify these "GALIs".

It's not neccessary to be DEFECTIVE to keep yourself away from CROWD or COMMON or just to earn publicity...

Why to challange GOD yaar...

‘Social norms’ are rules that are socially enforced. They are usually based on some degree of consensus and are enforced through social sanctions.

It is often said that we are born free and should not be tied in strings and thereby no rules and norms must be made to tie the hands of our freedom. Now, just imagine a society where there are no obligations on anyone, no duties assigned, no norms to observe and no legal compliances. Believe it or not, the face of such society will surely be very insipid and appalling.

Humans are different from animals just because of the fact that they are not on earth to just ‘survive’ using the obtainable means. They are here to make a judicious use of resources, live life not just for today but think about the future too, to make their lives comfortable by constant hard work and not just rest down after filling their tummies, to evolve newer dimensions within self and the society around, to discover newer things or issues that affect or can affect the things around and the likes.

A human to be a human in real sense has to abide by certain norms, parameters, laws, rules, regulations, policies and systems. And this is what makes them distinct from other creatures. Now, the issue that is of concern here and everywhere is who is the rule-maker, who is to decide what is right and what is not, who is to ensure that such rules are observed etc. Some such powers were vested with judiciary for ensuring the observance of those rules that were understood to be a severe breach of socially acceptable behaviors and were thought to be made punishable. For the rest there is ‘moral policing’ that is social pressure to resist from doing some forbidden things or keeping away from them. Now, the issue under consideration being too sensitive it comes under the area of moral policing as if left unnoticed or is inadvertently allowed then it will surely give a bad message to the society as a whole. Sexual freedom, without restrictions and sensibility can lead to major severe consequences …… Though I need to say something else too but owing to some time limitation its enough for the time being.

" kehte hai ki Jab Gadrhe ki maut awe to wo gaam ki taraf baghe hai "

please have some sense of responsibility....kehi aisa na ho ki yeh freedom of choice ki vajeh se sab kuchi hi satyanash ho jya...

"Sexual freedom, without restrictions and sensibility can lead to major severe consequences ……"
True. But, in my opinion sexual preferences should not be restricted.
As you rightly said...
"who is the rule-maker, who is to decide what is right and what is not" ... imho individuals themselves should make a decision on what is right and/or wrong for them. Brain works!!... and all have one.

Thanks,
Sumit

Ha ha ha ...ANDY topic ... pachle saal bbc pe ek doctor se baat karva rahe they issi bare mein ... to wo doctor kahe tha .... hath se design bana kar ke ...

O and O .... doesnt work ...
I and I ..... doesnt work ....

But

O and I .... Ah it worked ...Perfect !!! and also
I and O ...

these are the perfect combinations that are made by god .... and deviating from this is known as defect. So these defective people needs to be cured and not looked down. They can be cured.

Oon te ye kahani aaj ki na ghane din ki chali aa rahi hein ... mein history section mein padhan lag rahya tha .... kise bhai ne hude likh rakhya tha ek Akbar ke haram mein isse bhi Jinaur they ...

Pata nahi what should be accepted and what not ... but these guys have something uncommon and irritating. They are not normal by mind also. Sunya hai ye badde badde star bhi isse pa jyan hein ... piche si ek model ne media mein uthai thi ye baat ... er ek dost hai panipat side ka wo modeling kare hai ... wo bhi bataya kare ek matte ye phalane phalane isse hein. Er nae models ne exploit karein hein kaam dein te pahelyan.

Bhai, But, in my opinion any kind of preferences should not be restricted.

Eeb pache si mein Rohtak ja rahya tha ... to ek chora khadya tha katcheri mein ... to mera dost Vakeel batan lagya uski kahani ... uski shadi hogi ... bahu aagi sare rang cha hoe ... par unka bhram jib tootya ... jib 4 mahine mein uski bahu ke pet deekh aaya. uneh check karvaya ... to balak tha kae mahine ka. Us chori/bahu te baat kari ... to wa kati naatgi er nue boli manne to jaan ke rakhya se yo ... na girvaon ... wo balak uske premi ka tha er wa nue chahve thi ek usne janam de ... er wo premi uska khud tau tha. Pher ke tha DAHEJ ka case daal diya .. er bichare ke parivar ki mushkil te jamanat hui er wo ragadya gaya kae din.

So this was also normal and nobody should be restricted for this preference of choosing lover, he/she may be anyone.

As far as I know sexual orientation is not a choice, it is hard-wired before birth. It is not a choice. Here's a study about the above fact.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=35176

I cannot imagine myself being attaracted to another man. I can logically conclude from this fact that one has to be genetically prediposed to it.

There is no cure for it because it is not a disease. Just leave these people alone. There are other bigger issues.

Sexual freedom, without restrictions and sensibility can lead to major severe consequences …… Though I need to say something else too but owing to some time limitation its enough for the time being.

So, as a corollary, sexual repression should lead to desirable consequences. Is that why, India is jostling for the title of world rape capital along with Africa. In some parts of our country rape is a sport.

You, as a woman should be a cheerleader for homosexuality, because if majority of the men are gay, women will be safer and you can also take them shopping with you.

I agree with you ... Sid

It's not their choice but it's in the genes of 'those' people ...... pure or hybrid ones ..... doesn't matter.

1. 'Preferences' in my post was specifically underlined to state that it included only the gender-esteem. Kindly do not mistake it for the freedom to have unlimited partners of one or both or no gender. "Man->Man, Man->Woman, Woman->Man and Woman->Woman" is all I meant. This choice(yes, this is a choice) should not be forced ('restricted' conveyed the unintended meaning). This was in response to "Some parents dont accept their children being gays/lesbians and force them to get married"...in Anuradha's post.

2. It is not inherent from birth. If Anuradha's post is to be believed, it can be developed over a period of time also. n I think she has a point here. Kindly read again... "One of my very good frn is a gay and not by choice but by chance".

3. Even I cannot imagine myself getting attracted towards another man but then by categorizing them into different race/breed I just do not wish to be biased.

"There is no cure for it because it is not a disease. Just leave these people alone. " ---> This is exactly what I am also meaning.

Thanks,
Sumit

The statement was grossly misinterpreted.

Sexual repression and Sexual freedom with certain restrictions are two very different terms having much difference in their meanings.

And as regards to the contention that absence of absolute sexual freedom results in more number of rapes then the point worth discussing is whether only this lack of freedom the only reason behind this heinous act ? Well, I can just say its much more than that ! It needs a perfectly sick mind, a total absence of human empathy, and an ugly frame of mind and much more in one's garbage-filledthe to commit an act like this !

And believe me, women dont need majority of gay men around to feel secure ! So, no point of cheerleading ! :(
