No body writes it in the western world and I am sure that no body used to write it 5 years ago in India.

Its no more latest now. We Chartered Accountants are now permitted to use this prefix with the permission of our Institute. Your CA freinds must already be knowing, it has been more than an year now.
 
although im not an engg ,just wonderin if engineers can also write Er wid thr name?

Engineer is a designation/degree madam. And what Shweta is saying is lil different. Generally, we do not prefix our degrees to our name.
If it is so then u will find some very absurd names like librarian, clerk, dhobi, chamar, jamadaar.

This tradition of prefix i have seen with few ppl only and i thing this needs to be approved from inst/org/court.

Doctors, military ppl, CAs(now) can use this. So, shez correct here.

The main point is surely that it has to be approved by the institute etc as have been mentioned here (Like in cade of Doctors IMA has approved the prefix 'Dr.') .

As far as engineers are concerned there are numerous institutes and no common governing authority. While, in case of CA's there is just a single governing body and we are bound by some common 'Code of Conduct' and 'Professional Ethics' and we could not have used such prefix or suffix until it has been approved by our governing body.

Profession - Marine Engineer , specialised on oil field developing vessels.
Life---- 6weeks big Monday, 6weeks big Sunday.
Ghar wali- sirf ekk
Bahar wali- Na wo na batau, new port new...... thats seaman's life.
Bachhe - do (one son, one daughter)
Gamm- Gumad, rahu Ganaur me, tetion pe mil jaya karu, tadke sanjj Ghumta.
If someone's kids wants to join the merchant Navy Its my pleasure to guide.
Bottom line....
