Hi Jatlanders,

Nathu Ram Godse was an edititor of the news paper 'AGRANI'. In one of his articles which were banned untill recently it has come out that Mahatma Gandhi's last words were not 'HEY RAM' .
As per Nathu Ram Godse..........as is written in one of his statements....

"Gandhi climbed the steps and came forward. He had kept his hands on the shoulders of the two girls. I wanted just three seconds more. I moved two steps forward and faced Gandhi. Now I wanted to take out the revolver and salute him for whatever sacrifice and service he had made for the nation. One of the two girls was dangerously close to Gandhi and i was afraid that she might be injured in the course of firing. As a precautionary measure I went one more step ahead, bowed before him and gently pushed the girl away from the firing line. The next moment I fired at Gandhi. Gandhi was very weak, there was a feeble sound like 'aah' from him and he fell down."

As per the article/statement of Nathu Ram Godse, Mahtma Gandhi never uttered the wod Hey Ram.

Im not very sure but the same was also brought out in the famous controversial Marathi play 'ME NATHURAM GODSE BOLTOYE'.

Is there any reality that the governmnet at that time fabricated that Mahatma Gandhi's last words were 'Hey Ram' or if it was true then why the government had banned the letters / statements and articles of Nathu Ram Godse or the government wanted to prove him as a hindu fanatic???????

I FULLY SUPPORT What he did was right...

but lemme, make it clear to all the members, please have the subject knowledge of Godse, before....you comment..

No doubt....Gandhi had manny gooddie's........and we admire him for that....

but there were lot's of issues n reason's that made Godse to take right step......

No offense to Gandhi lover's....

Nice eye opening thread....

provides a platform to place facts against the conventional mindset of traditionally biased society towards Gandhi. There are evidences in the past that Gandhi could have done in the interest of the Nation but he didn't do it as as it could have hampered his popularity, it's for all those who condemn these acts of Gandhi.

He (Godse) was just a terrorist.

nyway lot has been already discussed about Gandhiji here on Jatland so nothing left to discuss .

nd none among us (even if we all come together) can do what Gandhi had done for this Nation.

It requires extra ordinary courage to be Gandhi; it is not every body’s cup of tea.

hi mukesh,
Nathuram V Godse has been often projected as a terroist.
then why his statements or letters or articles were banned by the government.
here is one of his statements

In Nathuram’s words - “ I don’t refute Gandhi’s theory of non-violence. He may be a saint but he is not a politician. His theory of non-violence denies self-defence and self-interest. The non-violence that defines the fight for survival as violence is a theory not of non-violence but of self-destruction.The division of the nation was an unnecessary decision. What was the percentage of the Muslim population as compared to the population of the nation? There was no need for a separate nation. Had it been a just demand, Maulana Azad would not have stayed back in India. But because Jinnah insisted and because Gandhi took his side, India was divided, in spite of opposition from the nation, the Cabinet. An individual is never greater than a nation.
In a democracy you cannot put forward your demands at knife-point. Jinnah did it and Gandhi stabbed the nation with the same knife. He dissected the land and gave a piece to Pakistan. We did picket that time but in vain. The Father of our Nation went to perform his paternal duties for Pakistan! Gandhi blackmailed the cabinet with his fast unto death. His body, his threats to die are causing the destruction — geographical as well as economical — of the nation. Today, Muslims have taken a part of the nation, tomorrow Sikhs may ask for Punjab. The religions are again dividend into castes, they will demand sub-divisions of the divisions. What remains of the concept of one nation, national integration? Why did we fight the British in unison for independence? Why not separately? Bhagat Singh did not ask only for an independent Punjab or Subhash Chandra Bose for an independent Bengal?
I am going to assassinate him in the open, before the public, because I am going to do it as my duty. If I do it surreptitiously, it becomes a crime in my own eyes. I will not try to escape, I will surrender and naturally I will be hanged. One assassination, one hanging. I don’t want two executions for one assassination and I don’t want your involvement, participation or company. (This was for Nana-Apte and Veer Savarkar as they were against ghandhi’s policies too, Godse wanted to assassinate gandhi all by himself and took promise from Nana Apte that he will continue helping Veer Savarkar in rebuilding India as a strong free nation.)
On January 30, I reached Birla Bhavan at 12 pm. Gandhi was sitting outside on a cot enjoying the sunshine. Vallabhbhai Patel’s granddaughter was sitting at his feet. I had the revolver with me. I could have assassinated him easily then, but I was convinced that his assassination was to be a punishment and a sentence against him, and I would execute him. I wanted witnesses for the execution but there were none. I did not want to escape after the execution as there was not an iota of guilt in my mind. I wanted to surrender, but surrender to whom? There was a good crowd to collect for the evening prayers. I decided on the evening of January 30 as the date for Gandhi’s execution.
Gandhi climbed the steps and came forward. Gandhi was very weak, there was a feeble sound like ‘aah’ (There are proof that Gandhi did NOT say “Hey Raam” at that time - it’s just made up stuff ) from him and he fell down.
After the firing I raised my hand holding the revolver and shouted, ‘Police, police’. For 30 seconds nobody came forward and I scanned the crowd. I saw a police officer. I signalled to him to come forward and arrest me. He came and caught my wrist, then a second man came and touched the revolver… I let it go…”

nt,,fully agreed to this view

yaa accepted wht Gandhi ji Did ws gud for our country

bt still there are a few examples where we can put a big Question mark ?

nd ask why he did so ,nd i m sure no one is ready to give answer to that as no reasonable answer is there for it,,

as i was nt born at that time so wud have to belive what is tld to me nd wht is bening shown us ,, through movies,

here one example is,, in the movie The Legend Of Bhagat Singh it is clearly shown that ,, Gandhi wud have easily saved the 3 heros of that time named Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru to be hanged
by not sighning the documents of pact ,, bt he did nd nt even tried to save them '

so wud like to here ur views in this respect why he did so,,

the 3 guys were also doing there best for the country nd thy happily devoted there souls fr the country bt, why there ws a need came whn Godse has to take this step to kill Gandhi,

Every terrorist usually say something in his defense. Every terrorist organization has a reason to fight or to kill the innocent people, so will you take them. Even Afjal garu may be writing something from the jail to justify his act, and if it get published will you agree with him. Do ge use sardanjali ?

nyway its my last reply to this thread as it seems just a wastage of time.

Mukesh
terrorist is one who spreads terror amongst a group of people or society
Nathu Ram Godse has no such intentions and neither he ran from the scene.
If he was a terrorist or a hindu fanatic then he wud have gone and killed the Muslims during the partition time when the trains full of butchered bodies of hindus had arrived in india, at that moment of time he cud have adopted sum means to spread terror among people.....

Good Debate!!!!!!!!!

Dear Members,

A very nice subject (though controversial) to discuss. A very comprehensive account of Gandhi’s assassination has been given in the book titled “The Men Who Killed Gandhi” written by Col Manohar Malgaonkar. We have read Nathuram Godse’s speech on this forum.

I am myself a big fan of Gandhiji, but I don’t support his policies. So when Nathuram Godse says that Gandhi was not a politician in real sense I agree with that. Integrity of the Nation was very dear to Veer Savarkar as well as Nathuram Godse, so was it to millions of people.

While Nathuram Godse says that Gandhi was his own judge, Nathuram turned out to be same, for he himself took the judgment to kill Gandhi. What is the difference?
The problem with Gandhi was that he was adamant to any thing that he decided to do. The one instance I specially dislike about Gandhiji is his threat to quit Congress when Subhash Chandra Bose won the election of President of Congress Party against the candidate supported by Mr. Gandhi (I think it was Maulana Azad). Gandhi’s philosophy of “Either my way or no way” alienated many countrymen and Nathuram Godse was one such individual. The philosophy Gandhi practiced is against the very fiber of democracy that he preached so dearly. To that extent denouncement of Gandhi was justified, but definitely not his assassination.

Violence has no place in a democratic set up. What Gandhi said or did not say at the time he took his last breath has no meaning. The fact of the matter is Gandhi failed at the crucial time of history. But why blame Gandhi alone. Gandhi taught to his ardent followers like Patel and Nehru that to tolerate injustice was as bad as injustice itself. Why none of them had the courage to stand up against Gandhi and raise their voice. We call some of them the architect of modern India and some as Iron Man.

The truth is, no one is perfect. Assassination is not the remedy. I would have rated Nathuram Godse or Veer Savarkar in extremely high esteem if they had publicly raised the voice and motivated the public against Gandhi’s policies at that time. Nathuram Godse being the editor of a newspaper, had the tools also to do that. The question is did he have courage to do so? I don’t think so.

Somewhere i heard that Gandhi's last were not "Hey Ram" but "HARAMI"...
khair suni-sunaii baat hai.. par kahin se to ye bhi suru hui hogi...;)

Then why you are not saying everybody who killed someone as terrorist.

Gandhi not at all a freedom fighter but a problem creater for all Indians.

Why he save these muslims in India when he devide this countery in two part on the basis of religion?

Why he was not agree on Respected Subhash Chandra Bose as president of Congress.

Why he like Nehru to be Prime Minister of this countery even at the cost of Devision in two parts.

Why Gandhi and Nehru agree to handover Mr Bose to British Govt. as and when he found.

Why Mr Bose is not listed as a freedom fighter in Govt. of India,s list.

These all and so maney other problems/injustice are done by Gandhi-Nehru combine.

He was.

Sir, I think they feel shortage of time to convience the people.

Mujhey lagta hai kee Mr Godsae ney soch hoga jab tak mein logo ko inkee galat policies key barey mein samjhaunga tab tak to bahut nuksaan ho chuka hoga. Desh ka Batwara ho gaya, Pakistan ko Bahut sara paisa bhee diya gaya or es terrorism key beej(Muslimo) ko bhee yahan rakh liya.

Kashmir say leker North-east tak key Terrorism key liyea Gandhi, Nehru and Congrees hee jimewaar hai. Agar Gandhi ka nehru prem no hota to es desh mein terrorism ka kanhi naam bhee nahi hota.

Can’t help u... It is just a perception problem with you.

Why he save these muslims in India when he devide this countery in two part on the basis of religion?

First check with your knowledge.. Was he the only person responsible for the division of the country... Did all other politician including the one to whom you call IRON MAN, opposed to this division? First u answer to it, then probably it may be discussed further. Otherwise it sounds totally irrational.

Why he was not agree on Respected Subhash Chandra Bose as president of Congress.

Indeed a good question & must be discussed.

Why he like Nehru to be Prime Minister of this countery even at the cost of Devision in two parts.

First get your question right, it would be better if you support your argument with any factual information.
One more thing if not Nehru then who should be the first PM of India in your views? If you have any choice then please don’t forget to elaborate that how he could have avoided the division of the country.

Why Gandhi and Nehru agree to handover Mr Bose to British Govt. as and when h
Why Mr Bose is not listed as a freedom fighter in Govt. of India,s list.

Not sure of it. But if it is true then it is indeed unfortunate. btw wud u like to mention the source of information from where you draw this fact?

This is from Dark Knight but seems relevant here since the talk is about Gandhi, Bose and soon Bhagat will also be mentioned.
'You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'

The facts about Nathuram V Godse can be seen from the book "nine hours to rama" which was written during his trial. this book has been banned in india since its release.
this book was banned by the then government as it could have destroyed the image of MK gandhi.

Humm, ... I wonder if Gandhi was that Great they why the heck govt banned all the books written by Godse or related to him?? Is govt afraid that if the country comes to know about the real facts what will happen to great image of Gandhi??
