Can WORDS express our feelings?

Members, i've noticed many a times in real life and here on Jatland too, people using slangs. The words like> WTF/ M*F*/ Kameena/ A$$/ B*C*/ M*C*/ C* etc. etc. Can user of these words tell that why do we use such words? Are we short of vocabulary? Are you short of expressions? Or do you doubt our capability of writing skills or communication skills. Is it that you give up so easily WHEN YOU HAVE TO WRITE SOMETHING BAD....these words easily creep up one's mind and give A RAPID SATISFACTION of EXPRESSING THE BEAUTY OF YOUR MINDS? I noticed stronger the hatred stronger will be the SLANG.... but do these slangs really express the degree of serious thoughts you want to DELIVER. Do people ponder over the SELECTION of words before hit the "SUBMIT" key. Please share your views.

No Sunita bebey....slangs are in bad taste always........It is reflective of loss of common sense and an unwanted eagerness to prove somthing of which that individual is not capable.Further more it paints such people in a very poor light. There are sensible words available to put across one's point of view sensibally, politely yet most effectively. We must rise above these fundamental weaknesses in our character. It is totally undesired and uncivilized to say the least.Hope people understand this MARYADA of civilized behaviour and not try justify the wrongs.....me inclusive if by chance i have used some wrong word....i feel sorry and take them back without reservations.Sensible thread and timely too.Keep it up Sunita.

Thanks Dev Bhaisahab, i was fascinated by the thread"The new face of Terror" but was keeping myself away from reading/posting due to lack of time. Today started to read and the initial few posts boggled my mind and saved myself from strengthening my vocabulary in "GLOBAL SLANGS".

i dont mind profanity/slangs/swear words !

to me it's the power of expression tht matters. although personally i'm not into swear words nd seldom use such kind of words especially while i'm expressing myself in writing... guess i might have used them rarely on 1 or 2 occasions in my app. 700 posts on JL. having said so, the fact remains tht my entry on JL started with such a word... he he he. :D obviously tht word c***iya carried a different meaning - a common slang in our spoken language. at the same time i feel tht these swear words or slangs (often times) add an extra 'underground' appeal, a part of the overall package nd are common with every individual - male or female. i can say this with 100% conviction tht almost everybody in their life have used these words more often then not... and tht is the real FACT. if sum1 deny using these words then he/she is blatantly lying to him/her-self. to me it is synonym to sumting like using red marker or bold letters or underlining a sentence while expressing yr.self... m i right ??? ;)

in my opinion, restrictions on the use of profanity (swear words/slangs) in our common spoken language, or in broadcast media often times fail to take into account the extraordinary emotional power and linguistic flexibility tht swearing affords. there is no better way to capture human feeling or describe situations with humor and attitude than by swearing. feeling the importance of these words we still use phrases like "bhains ki eyes or teri maa ki aankh" or "behn de takey" (remember rang de basanti). also remember the power of the word "maderjaath" in the movie "ganga jal"... what will you call this ??? creativity !!! offcourse creativity, but the fact remains, as said by me earlier... its the power of profanity.

i guess, most ppl would appreciate tht in our fast-paced culture, we all want information nd things (good or bad) to move at the speed of a bullet... nd more often than not, the shortest distance btwn two points is the F*** word :D:D:D
it's ok to hurl a heap of expletives while showing off yr emotions/anger, most often then not sometimes the hurling don’t get things done but it kinda releases tension in you and you actually feel fantastic. ;););) having said so, if you don’t like something someone wrote just leave it and move on. meaning, if someone used the word sh*t for instance and you didn’t like it then that is an individual problem, not the authors, especially if there was/wasn't a disclaimer first off. no one out here is a saint or mahatama gandhi***, everyone has emotions, however hard you may try these slangs are so spontaneous tht they just come out... i mean just for the heck of it.

in another perspective, we don’t always have to apply swearing to anger only. it can be powerful to accentuate the positive. finally, they say swearing is unladylike... true !!! but on a personal note... when I am with my friends, i do it cos it makes me sound like one of the guys – which is great – as long as you don’t also act like them and start scratching.

*** well ppl haven't even spared mahatma gandhi when it comes to tht matter... remember "majboori ka naam M.karamchand.G ***

p.s. : c'mon folks speak yr mind dont involve yrself in this rhetoric just for the heck of hit or to prove Mr. Gud/Ms. Gud

the subject is very close to my heart cos i kick-started off at JL on this note, tht's why i've taken my time to pour my thots... still no regrets, cos my point was loud and clear... and so it is even TODAY. :);):)

to add to my above post imagine the characters in the movie gangajal, using word like भाईसाहेब तेरी तो... instead of मादरजात तेरी तो...

think, think hard !!! :D:):D

I feel good that I don't fall under this list of almost everybody. Then I never felt like lying to myself because I also express my anger or extreme limts of disliking something/somebody n I always write in the first thought.....that is, without thinking much about my vocabulary here. That's why I never faced anybody saying that you used some very cheap word or language for me.

Atleast I never stand to prove myself good or bad as that task I always leave for people and then I never mind others perception if they think me other way but can stop mingling with them. I cannot change anybody's perception.

I do try to make others agree at my opinions by talking to many.

Aur agar koi mere baare mein jyada jaanta hai to wo ye bhi jaanta hoga ki main ladti hun but kabhi apni delicate tounge ya deemag ko ganda nahin karti. Iss baat par to meri kuchh ladkon se ladai bhi ho chuki and they also many time forced me to speak out those words like they or some girls do. But, jo main nahin karti, wo chahe kitna bhi koshish kar liya jaaye main nahin kar sakti as I do/speak something by habit. (fir chahe mujhe wo un-natural bolen....I don't mind)

Rest, I'm of the same opinion like Dev Sir, ki Maryada naam ki bhi kuchh cheez hoti hai. But then, can ask my frens to stop using unappealing words....aur wo na maanein to main jyada dukhi nahin karti unhe.....I can stop talking to my real brother if I ever come to know that he used any such word for anybody (from any source). Bas bhai ke peeche pad sakti hun uske words ka stock theek karwane ke liye agar kharaab ho raha ho to. (till now I always felt like blessed a lot, lets see what's there in the future)

I'm very happy to see some such kind thread from Sunita's side. Hope, people will change it a little.

if you haven't used words like kameene, kutte (w/o drinking blood :D), haraami, or sumthing similar on a slightly softer note... then you are one off exception... en extra-terrestrial creature. :p

An interesting subject Sunita ji.

Well! I personally don't use swear words on a public platform such as Jatland, its not necessary, they're a lot of other ways one can express their views. Jatland is like a temple to me, to me it's a place of morals and values and purity, and its close to me. One of the things i love about my country India, is the fact that most people are polite and do not use profanity and I consider most indians decent people, atleast they come across decent. I do not like people using profanity on jatland where its viewed by elder people.- would you use such language in front of your father or mother? It's wrong.
I do swear when im with my friends, its between us and we mainly use it to emphasise anger or astonishment or make stuff sound funny..that's not such a bad thing. One must choose their words carefully depending to who you're speaking to or addressing.
Ideally one must not use such language, i think its anti-indian, and not decent. But living in south africa where swearing is very common for about 15 yrs, i guess i picked it up too.
Swear outside of your home, not inside! And Jatland is like a home to me and im so proud of my people and my caste, and ill never swear here. I'll swear at facebook or any other western site, not here

Brahm....i still remember your "ENTRY" with such a nice WORD, here my question to Moderators....the word for which Brahm got banned and got some infraction also, was that the ONLY word in your list of words considered SLANG? Or other members have been given infraction too?

Brahm how powerfully one like to express his mind? Is this the best way to express? Are these words taught in school/colleges? If yes, i wish to know which school/college have you completed your education from? Suppose you are in middle of a discussion or argument with family members and your words dont seem to be powerful to convince the rest of the family....will you use maa ki aankh/ maadar jaat....when your mother/sister/daughter/niece are around? I'm asking this just to pacify my curiosity. It's seen that girls are no exception in using slangs, but what the joy of using profanity?

i feel tht these swear words or slangs add an extra 'underground' appeal

I beg to differ ! :)

It is nothing but insane to say that , these swear words add to anything.

Even you examples of adding a tinge in the movies is lame to me , i mean i do not believe that the plot would not have veen successful without those so called "bujj" words of yours.

In my stay here at JL and even otherwise on the online world , I have never used these words ( at least to the best of my memory) , yes i have got agitated a few time sbut still managed to hold on!

The use of slangs / swears reflect lack of communication/writing skills for sure. I mean there are N ways to reflect what exactly you feel.

I am not claiming i never use these words , but the audience is my very close friends! I can never imagine myself using thse kind of words socially! Never ever......

:)

I guess once we finish with discussing this , we can also talk if actually words fall short of expressing ourselves! :)

> WTF/ M*F*/ Kameena/ A$$/ B*C*/ M*C*/ C* etc. etc.

So you know these words. sometimes these words are very useful........
I used many times in Indonesia, HK, Holland - even they could not understand the meaning but I got what I wanted without paying a single dollar whereas many of my friends suffered or paid money for clearance.

I agreed its not decency to use these words but what to do?????? [In Palam
few jats I met said, ae you are jat, can't believe you'r so polite. ya I was grown uu in jaipur with banias and marwaris]

I have to make people understand and for that I can use the language they understand.

MORAL of the STORY: you should know what are you talking and where are you talking and to whom you are talking. too nice to fool is not good.

Really? how useful are they?

By writing those words in red ink mean that ANYONE WHO DOESN'T ABUSE/SWEAR OR WHATEVER....IS NOT A JAT?

Is being polite SHAMEFUL? And being abusive PROUD?My view about RAJASTHANIS is that they are very sweet & soft spoken? AM i wrong or should i be just regretful of having this misconception about Jats from Rajasthan?

I am of an opinion that if you can speak these words in front of your father/mother/sister/wife/daughter....then They are just GREAT:) And believe me THINGS MOVE AND JOBS GET DONE WITHOUT THESE WORDS TOO....its a different story if PEOPLE want to speak their minds but why to make excuse like>I have to make people understand and for that I can use the language they understand.

I understand in a best possible way without these words and i'm sure there are many WHO WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND WITHOUT THESE RAINBOWY WORDS

Anil let me tell you your decency is the biggest trait that makes you stand out of this Jatland crowd:) Keep it up and i swear by GOD you express yourself so beautifully even withut those words:)

Loud mouthiness and swear words are the surest signs of poor upbringing and pathetic growing up.No amount of justification for foolish things can go down well with nice and wise people. It is the fool who sticks to the gun...knowing fully well that IT HAPPENS TO BE A TOY. Its very difficult to be patient and in control while faced with a tough situation than to blow one's top and THE bottoms and fire all cylinders in every possible direction......Sure sign of loosing ground.

No not at all , I am saying the same I am jat and I am polite and soft spoke. But the language of haryana is a bit harsh. When I came to delhi/Fridabad every time I has a fight with people during traveling in buses. They talked like they were abusing me. TU is very common for haryanvis but for us its GALI.

Is being polite SHAMEFUL? And being abusive PROUD?My view about RAJASTHANIS is that they are very sweet & soft spoken? AM i wrong or should i be just regretful of having this misconception about Jats from Rajasthan?
You are absoltely right.

Again you are absoltely right and thats' why I used word sometimes.

I agreed with you. But these words are very common and unfortunately I came to know only after getting admission in my engineering college....and it was a great shock to me.

Sunita g correctly said using of abusive words or language is really bad. Even i have used some bad words for the politicians because of frustration i m justifying me that was my fault but i have never used any foul language for any of our member here in JL. And i will take care in future that i will not use those kind of words for anyone. And Brahm sir i m not agree with u first time that for expressing agression we need to use these kind of words.

Bebbey,

Jats should not be writing these kind of words...

Since, for a jat, - "When everything (read word) fails... "lathhh" prevails" :D

Mr Brahm caught my mind and have already expressed what he thinks. Same is my opinion.

I never use such words here on JL because its really insult to such words if u write rather than speaking. These words look good when u speak with passion and feelings. I use such words many a times in my day to day life even being a professional where ppl are supposed to behave more professionally. I infact use these slangs for showing my anger as well as for fun. I just take care where and for whom I am using such words. I dont find wrong using these words but just to take care who is the target crowd.

Well, someone asked abt school ki which school teache that ... hmmm.... there are few things for which our society and friend circle are our schools. There are many more other things also which i do not want to mention. But we do have schools for that which are unregistered and unknown but they exist.

For using such words neither I am proud nor I feel guilt. Its ok with me. No regrets so far.

I guess the guys who are trying to be saint here also use such words. Hardly u will find guys who don't use this foul language and that too among jat guys ... Dunno y but they work a lot for their false image and are afraid of accepting the truth. Sala(Another foul word expressing my anger) jo bhi achha hai woh sab karte hai aur jo bhi bura hai uske liye preach karte ghumte hai. Updesh dene ki aadat pad gayi hai ... harr cheez mein ... mein kyu peeche rahun. Sab bhashan de rahe hai mein bhi dunga... chahe apni baat-cheet mein koi kyu na kissi ki maa behen ko ghaseent kar le aaye har jagah kounsa koi kissi ko ghar jaa kar dekhne wala hai .. par nahi ek gautam budh woh tha aur ek hum hai yaha ke... huhhhh

Dear DK i agree with u that almost all of us uses these kind of words and i m not trying to be Saint in any manner. I except that i uses same kind of foul language but i never used that for any member of JL and again like u if i use those words definitely i always see first who is the target audience but that doesn't justify that its a good practice.
And beleive me these words can never be powerfull when u want to convince anyone. Mind it that Mr. Kalam never uses these words in front of audience and beleive that his words can make a magic without using a foul language in any manner. Songs sung in our Patriotic movies can create a vibration and again no foul language used in those. And the point is not that u uses those words or not point is that are they really express your felling that u can't express with other good words.
