I think for any kind of one to one conversation there is 1 more option is available i.e Visitor message and i think that's a better option rather than doing of thread.
stop talking like a headmistress of a boarding school.
jis insaan ko jante nahi ho use seedha visitor message bhejdo? befaltu mai kyo beech mai aake tang ada raha hai.

Urmila ji,
Appreciate your comment and guidance, thank you.
I just presented one of many scenarios while explaining the context to carry the discussion forward.
Taking cue from your post, please allow me to rephrase-
"What is it that will allow me to grow roots and become stronger in an organization- be a jack of all trades or a master of one?"
Regards
Anju
With reference to ur highlighted quote…the most successful professionals whom do we see on top ladder share some common traits….
Aggression or more precisely assertiveness….how confident & impressive you are while sending your message across when you speak…some persons have authoritative voice…..Mel Gibson, Jack Nicholson, Morgan freeman….who made ppl to listen them… that’s where ur superior will notice your potential.
Organizational capabilities……are you able to organize a team of ppl with a vision to take process forward…..can motivate them…isn’t these leadership quality….now how do we find whether we are leader or not….its born trait…right from school & college…some ppl have great urge to lead…they like to give command rather than being directed…whether they are in school or political affair…so same in organization too…these some ppls lead whole bunch of laid backs…… you will find many who just spent substantial amount of time on one designation only without the urge of advancement of their career…the only thing they can think of putting paper and switch to others firm at little higher compensation without taking more responsibility.
I see so many ppl …who just afraid of taking more responsibilities…afraid to face challenges since they are so get used of comfort level…now when management has to choose one person among so many…how will they select right candidate….they are likely to select a person who stands out from crowd….who is master of one bt jack of all trades…. My VP who is a CA is master in his own accounting word…bt what made him successful is his diverse knowledge of finance & banking…he understand technology…has tremendous organizational & interpersonal skills….
Now some possible test of one’s own capabilities…..takes some hypothetical situation….
And very few were waiting for this opportunity to come to their lap and they say yes I will do it….how proactive you are in solving a problem…or discounting an opportunity in your favor…luck is when your preparation along with capabilities meets with opportunity….
- There is an event organized where your process needs to be presented in front of large audience….consisting top management…your manager says to the team….who will take up this responsibility to present…on hearing this everybody looks at each other’s face….heart beat is well above the average.. some may be praying don’t look at me sir.… plz…
The main difference between a leader & a manager is.. leader set an example to motivate their team to take them to the right path….and manager just control the activities….
- One team of foreign delegate is coming…who will take the charge of their stay…their timely completion of schedules etc etc…that taste ur organizational skills…
On an average for every 10 to 15 persons one leader is being chosen depending on the headcounts…everybody cant be a leader…..ppl who crystal clear about their potential eventually become successful in their own domain and keep growing without anyone’s advise….
I find the “fearlessness” the utmost virtue one can ever possess…did you hear this word “I am fearless”… how dangerous or progressive one can be with this trait by utilizing it at right direction.
By having just expert knowledge one can only become an accountant or programmer….not the CEO….i am sure the person who takes a call of reconstruction or merger or any organizational change is master of one bt jack of all trades… after all a good ear, a good mouth and a good heart is what that makes the difference… did i forget good brain

the jack of all trades maximizes an individual’s peak experiences in life nd he learns to enjoy the pursuit of excellence unrelated to material gain, all while finding the few things he is truly uniquely suited to dominate. it’s more fun, in the most serious existential sense.i feel tht a jack of all trades may also be a master of integration, as the individual knows enough from many learned trades nd skills to be able to bring their disciplines together in a practical manner, BUT is not a specialist. such a person is known as a polymath or a renaissance man... a typical example being leonardo da vinci.
on the contrary…
any path that narrows future possibilities may become a lethal trap. humans are not threading their way through a maze… they scan a vast horizon filled with unique opportunities. the narrowing viewpoint of the maze should appeal only to creatures with their noses buried in the sand.
in a world of dogmatic specialists, it’s the >>> generalist <<< who ends up running the show… this is a FACT, not an assumption.
i don’t understand why sid nd few others have ridiculed the topic to such an extent, may be because of lack of elaboration frm the author... i dont know???

anyways, to me it definitely makes sense, cos i personally feel tht i’m one such person who would like to be described as being “a jack of all”. Let me try (if i can) to explain myself a bit further of what i left in my previous posts (quoted above).
the dusty adage "jack of all trades” to me can be best defined as... "a person who can do many different types of work but who is not necessarily very competent at any of them, so we work to be a master… tht sums up our basic evaluation system. Our job performance is based on meeting or exceeding the expertise outlined for our role.
… to elaborate a bit further, nd as said earlier - a person who is “jack of all trades” is a renaissance man or woman, a polymath… these are persons who are not afraid to tackle any problem. They will jump right in nd fix the car instead of taking it to the shop, or repair the broken water heater or an electric iron (for example) on their own. They can do/fix anything, do plumbing, do electrical work, work on cars, remodel the house, cook etc etc. There is nothing tht they would not do… instead they would do it pretty well. They may or may not hv a special training, instead they just do what is needed to be done nd learn to become good at everything because they worked at it. It may not be perfect but it is being self sufficient tht can give an individual a sense of pride nd satisfaction. Tht simply means they try to be self sufficient nd do as much as they can for themselves nd as best as they can.
ever heard of a word called ‘जुगाड़’ or ‘जुगाडू ’. A job well done in indian pretext is better called as… फिट जुगाड़ कर दिया. If it works well you are indeed a satisfied soul.
on the contrary, master of one = a specialist, a person of one trade, who is limited by only what he knows best. He is confined by what he has chosen.
[simplified in simplest terminology]
… to elaborate a bit further, nd as said earlier - a person who is “jack of all trades” is a renaissance man or woman

madam,A renaissance? How come? I don't think being Jack of All Trades is a requirement for renaissance.
you can use the following links to explore more on renaissance men...1. The Renaissance (French for "rebirth"; Italian: Rinascimento; Spanish: Renacimiento), was a cultural movement that spanned roughly the 14th through the 17th century, beginning in Italy in the late Middle Ages and later spreading to the rest of Europe and now at JATland. It encompassed the revival of learning based on classical sources, the rise of courtly and papal patronage, the development of perspective in painting, and advancements in science. The Renaissance had wide-ranging consequences in all intellectual pursuits, but is perhaps best known for its artistic aspect and the contributions of such (pls have a grip here >>>) polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, who have inspired the term "Renaissance Men".
2. Renaissance men: A Polymath (Greek polymathēs, πολυμαθής, "having learned much") is a person, with superior intelligence, whose expertise spans a significant number of subject areas. In less formal terms, a polymath (or polymathic person) may simply refer to someone who is very knowledgeable. Most ancient scientists were polymaths by today's standards. A different name for the secondary meaning of polymath is "Renaissance Man" (a term first recorded in written English in the early 20th century). Other similar terms also in use are Homo universalis and Uomo Universale, which in Latin and Italian, respectively, translate as "universal person" or "universal man".
