Very well said I think everyone is trying to say only these 2 points, and don't know why we are beating around the bush, lets forget about past and if anyone want to add any more important point he is welcome, otherwise why mudslinging.

2 points -
a)Marriage b/w same gotra people should not happen & we should respect the 3 gotra match rule.
b)If some one marries in same gotra then killling them is not a solution. They should be discarded by the society.

who is allowing this guy to write anything..............

Quit worrying about other people's daughters. Its their family, they can do what they feel like ... its not your concern.
I am sure you will help Anil from now on in their time of need ... financially and emotionally ... if not then you can keep your proselytizing to yourself - people can take care of their families and daughters without your lecture.

"it is not his concern " then y u r concerning about his concern , i have seen so many times times that u don't have any respect for anything, sometimes u come upto the level of shamelessness. if u r not feeling attached to the castism type feeling , then y do u waste ur time here brother , u always talk negative. y u don't leave us , if v r so stupid , illiterate , ignorant then ignore us and be happy with ur american life. and this is amazingly nobody is noticing how rude he is in behaviour . tere jaise bandon ka ek hi ilaaj hai ..................... aur wo main yahaan nahi likh saktaa because i am not so shameless like u .

Thanks Sanjeev for your research!! But I still find some flaws in it, sorry for pointing it out.

[sanjeev1984]Please ignore the spelling mistakes.

what ever i am going to write. may be some of u will feel that i am acting too smart and may be some of you feel i m a big idiot.

but i want to highlight few things in front of you guys.

To those, who feel marriage in same gotra is right : go and study biology (genetics to be specific)
[JS] As per biology, you should avoid marrying (to be precise having offspring with) your siblings, first cousins and second cousins as it causes the offspring to be born with genetic disorders. The gotra system was a tool to make this happen as at that time there was not much education, so the traditional way of drafting a rule of mariage to avoid such things. However, I am not sure if every same gotra mariage falls in the same category. My suggestion is that
a. Same gotra marriages should be discouraged (we are already doing the same)
b. If in case we get to know a potential same gotra marriage, rather than being hostile and repulsive, we should get the boy and girl (possibly with their family) counselled with doctors.
c. For the same gotra couples (who have already married), get them counselled through doctors, if they happen to be first or second cousins.

[sanjeev1984] To those, who feel khaap-panchayat should not be there to take decision about these kind of matters : go and ask govt & judicial bodies why the hell they consult "maulwies" when they have to fix any muslim law or for the trial of any criminal case againt any muslim guy.
[JS] No judicial body has ever consulted to muslim bodies for any criminal case. This has happened only in your dreams. However, for civil case they may take reference to the judgements as long as that abides to the Constitution of India.
The issue with your Khap Panchayats is that not only they are undemocratic, but they also do not represent the crux of the society. Otherwise, the Karnal honour killing would have never happened.

[sanjeev1984] To those, who marry within same gotra : either they are uneducated or i feel they are mentally retarted case, we must provide a good psycological consultent to them.
[JS] Please refer my comment to your first item.

[sanjeev1984] To those, who support the judgemnt about the case : i think judicial system is the requirement of the society for its betterment and not on the cost of distuction of certain very logical ritual, values and customes. this kind of judgements are going to distroy the society instead of improving it.
[JS] In no way the judgement has harmed Jat tradition, it has taught a lesson to the people who have no respect for the lives of innocent people. I would have preferred Death Sentence to all the panchayat members and police personnel who helped the killers as well.

[sanjeev1984] To those, who say killing them is not the solution : i strongly support them. killing is never the solution. but i want to ask one thing what you can do for them so that they avoid taking such steps of getting married in same gotra. i think u can teach them, educate them what else. and even after all of your efforts they are on the same track what you should do? and i think it is the situation of mental block for them (i.e. mentally retarted) lemme share some information about spartians. they (spartians) used to kill their own sons/daughters (imperfect) to ensure that their future generations will be healthier and stronger (physically and mentally)
to be continued.....
[JS] I have already suggested the solution from my end, and I am sure this will be far better if we keep such cases integrated within the society, so that for future it is easy to educate people with their experiences. I read a research on the British people of Pakistani origin, wherein 55% of people marry to either first or second cousins and around 16% of the offsprings born to them die prematurely due to genetic disorders.

[JS] In no way the judgement has harmed Jat tradition, it has taught a lesson to the people who have no respect for the lives of innocent people. I would have preferred Death Sentence to all the panchayat members and police personnel who helped the killers as well.

I have found these 2 lines distasteful to some extent to me in your above post and that's why I am interrupting. You said the judgement has harmed Jat tradition in no way. I said it has. Haryana is a Jat dominant state and 5 Jats will be hanged there (though if it happens Congress will be swept away from Haryana for good as far as I think).
Why will those 5 Jats be hanged? Because they killed a couple which has violated Jat community rules. Those 5 guys were not professional killers and they all have family as far as I know. You say Panchayat members and Policemen should have also been hanged. Don't you feel it's aftereffect? This is insult of whole Jat community. I think 3 years' imprisonment would be a good lesson, but if they are really going to be hanged then other castes are going to tease us Jats saying how do you say you are dominant in Haryana, dozens of Jats have been hanged there. So if you still feel happy on this decision, then you are truly a secular person. According to you this casteism and dominance like things are all rubbish and all human beings are equal. It doesn't matter if people of one caste perform better on this planet than the people of other castes, all are equal to you. My well wishes are with you. Thanks.

I am trying to summarize the discussion from my perspective:

I initially thought that the discussion had to do with our heritage, instead it has been diverted to just issue, which seem to be indicating that we are ignoring a lot of issue that had to do with our cultural heritage and we are misunderstading our social fabric with cultural heritage. Right now we seem to be focussing one issue, which seem to have been bifuricated in 2 sub issues:
1. Same gotra marriage: I have never seen anybody supporting the same per se. The reasoning may be different but everybody seem to be agreeing on the issue. I have slightly different opinion, but it drills down to the same thing: find the means in our society to avoid offspring from close biological relations till second cousins. Some friends have commented (sarcastically although) about inter caste marriages, which are good for biological reasons, but not for peace of your life (different cultures require more complex way of managing life). Just to clarify that comment on the corruption of bloodline, "Its good to marry as far as possible from your bloodline." In my last comment I have tried to find a bit different way of handling the same gotra (please read it 'any voilation of our 3 gotra exclusion system' to avoid any more controversy).

2. Whether or not we support honour killings: Quite a few people have supported the same, few have even gone to extend that the khap panchayat was not even involved. They have their opinions, but can anybody of them guarantee that such things would solve the problem. I can guarantee that such things can do more harm than good on more than one account. Firstly, you get branded as a bad society, and such a bad society that even your educated children wont like to be associated with it. Secondly, when such issue come in light and if there happen to be some couple, who could have broke up after counselling, would never come back to our society. Thirdly, since as per law of our land, these are murders, we are ruining the lives of every family member invloved in such murder, who have done no wrong.

I hope I have made my points clearly.

Coming back to another core issue which seem to have diluted, but I find attractive is validity of Khap Panchayats, the so called custodians of Jat Heritage, I have a strong reservation about their validity and their abilty to represent Jat people. In my opinion they only represent the fake 'Chaudhar' of so called constituent members only and nothing else. Thei are neither democratic, nor the members ever evoke respect from their deeds. I never see them contributing to social service. I never see them members sacrificing for community. They are always in news for wrong reasons. I have a question from people supporting them: Has any khap panchayat boycotted a Jat from society, who has given or taken bribe or any such moral issue? If not then their stand on the gotra issues is as fake as their chaudhar.

Upendra, If you read my next comment you will get to know the reason for my comment.

If you feel hanging these people is an insult to whole community, then in my opinion these people are insult to Jat community. I have recommended Death Sentence to the Panchayat Members and the Policemen involved, because I have sympathy with the family members who were provoked by these people. The killers were not professional, but these people were professionals. They were on responsible positions and they should have tried to resolve the issue, so that minimum damage was done. Instead they did handle in such a way that maximum harm was done.

Additionally, I dont buy your argument that in Haryana if a Jat is hanged than its a shame. What should happen to me if I murder somebody innocent, who has done no harm to me? Should I get 3 years imprisonment?

All Jats Please Listen;
Think seriously over some notable posts here. Either punish even a corrupt Jat (who takes bribe or drinks openly on road) or don't say anything to those Jats also who marry in same gotra. Be gentleman. It doesn't matter that other castes may prepare to oust you from your own land in the time of world war or civil war. Become as innocent as cow. Make your kids MCA, MBA, Docs, Engineers and respect your daughters' decision if she wants to marry a Dalit. After all Dalit is also a human being. Kashmiri Pandits have been booted out by the Muslims from Kashmir valley. Become like those Pandits and don't become like those barbarian Muslims. Stop saying yourselves Kshtriya (warrior). Be secular, learn etiquettes.

Friend, only the wearer knows where shoe pinches. When some family's daughter elopes, then that family knows how hard it becomes to talk eye to eye to someone. Others get a chance to harass such family. Look deep into the matter. They 5 killed that couple to maintain the decorum of the society. Though I am not supporting killing, but expressing happiness over the court decision, I can't do so ever. We should also think about the family members of those 5. If someone's daughter does so, then her family members can't sit calm. Or in other words their neighbours and relatives will not let them sit calm. Think over all aspects. It is not the case of simple murder for ransom or looting. Judges, lawyers, others are not innocent enough. To hang a notorious criminal o.k., but to hang someone who has committed some crime to maintain the rules of society, is not just enough. Though all have their own thoughts.

Upender,

If you want to interpret it this way, I don't mind. It does not harm me, but it will only help you to go into problems and not solutions.

I was just trying to point out a fact that Khap Panchayats do not represent our concerns. Even if you compare the gravity of 2 issues you have compared I still think and am sure that the corruption and acceptance to corruption in our society is far more serious problem than what we are vouching here (same gotra issue), since we come across 1-2 issues in a year. And if you still think that you can do it by murdering that odd couple than you are not treating the problem seriously.

If you are such a warrior, than try and go to fight against those who are equal to you on strength and not the meek couple who is on run from you fearing their life.

I am really wondering if you are trying to idolize barbaric Talibans to create a society of Jats. If so, best of luck.

Its easy to create problems, like the panchayat people have done to the families of the affected by provoking them into murder and its easy to be a laughing bystander like you. If you really have the courage of a warrior, go ahead and support their families and then you will realize the mistake they have done.

Finally, thanks for giving my comments enough value to react at least.

I take pity on your thinking that you will feel only if the daughter elopes, what about the sons? If you can't treat your sons and daughter equal on your thoughts I think I am wasting my time on trying to make you understand what I feel about the issue.

And as you have made the point that others look to harass the family, then what kind of society we have become, if we can't support a freind of us in his bad times. So, what I feel from your post is that they have killed that couple just because the Jat society will mockery of them. The Jats are those neighbours and relative who wont let them leave in peace. This is wonderful statement Upender!!!! I don't belong to such group, but I am Jat and I still value my roots.

If this is so easy to justify this murder, can you just let me know why you did not stood lawyer for these people in the court and got all of them acquitted?

I am sorry for being sarcastic, but I think its worth if you just try to think over before you write.

Excellent and crystal clear analysis by Shri Jitender Singh Gahlawat. All his posts are great and though provoking. We really need introspection.

Crime cannot be stopped altogether. So that doesn't mean change punishment.

"killing" is not synonym of " uncultured"

Contradiction of statements atleast get one stand.
Who told that it was panchayat's decision to kill the couple??
Honour Killing is much different then panchayat.

They should allow them to become professional by commiting another 20-30 murders.
Have you heard of law and order?

This case happens to be one in which Panchayat is involved but I have seen/heard of cases where no panchayat was involved and the family itself killed their daughter(in most cases its daughter). Peolpe of our community have the potential to be barbaric. And one can see that here itself with some people supporting the killing.
And a few such strict punishments will straighten these Ijjat ke thekedars. They will then be able to find the way of coping with societal pressure when it has to be compared with lifetime jail..

Also parents and families have to understand that they are not responsible for their kids deeds once they are grown up and so should the society. They can only try their best to raise them and what kids chose to do when they are grown up are their decisions, their logic and principles. The society should ask them for whatever clarifications. Why bother the parents and families. This will reduce the societal pressure that probably forces families to take extreme steps.

Also some people still give genetic reasons for not marrying within same gotra. I don't understand how some far awy villages with same gotra raise genetic concerns.

Someone have to take action for wrong deeds.
So why not the first ones (in name of family members)

Society is like a building block : starting with individual , family , extended family , village ....so & so
Such cases can be brought to society level , but family members think it wise to check their duties firstly by themselves.

Every where one can see hierachy like at work place......to maintain decorum.
Check on lower level by upper one is mandatory for discipline.

Its a worst thing an individual can do ....afterwards everyone will look at sister with a different angle...so iof you are ready for it by your brothers then write again with alike content you wrote previously.

No brothers are going to look at me with a different angle because when I consider someone as brother, it's not forced on me by just my gotra, but by my feelings and their feelings. So I stand by whatever I wrote n previous posts.

Society is like a building block : starting with individual , family , extended family , village ....so & so
Such cases can be brought to society level , but family members think it wise to check their duties firstly by themselves.

My point is why the family feels responsible for these adult kids deeds. After all they did their best. Why should society question the family.Their has to be some indepence (offcourse along with mutual love and care).

To Rakesh: The solution is to make the adults take responsibilities of their acts and understand their feelings. Then they will also understand parents' feelings. But if parents just look at their kids according to their 'sanjoye huye sapne', it is going to cause conflicts.
