Thanks Sanjeev for your research!! But I still find some flaws in it, sorry for pointing it out.
[sanjeev1984]Please ignore the spelling mistakes.
what ever i am going to write. may be some of u will feel that i am acting too smart and may be some of you feel i m a big idiot.
but i want to highlight few things in front of you guys.
To those, who feel marriage in same gotra is right : go and study biology (genetics to be specific)
[JS] As per biology, you should avoid marrying (to be precise having offspring with) your siblings, first cousins and second cousins as it causes the offspring to be born with genetic disorders. The gotra system was a tool to make this happen as at that time there was not much education, so the traditional way of drafting a rule of mariage to avoid such things. However, I am not sure if every same gotra mariage falls in the same category. My suggestion is that
a. Same gotra marriages should be discouraged (we are already doing the same)
b. If in case we get to know a potential same gotra marriage, rather than being hostile and repulsive, we should get the boy and girl (possibly with their family) counselled with doctors.
c. For the same gotra couples (who have already married), get them counselled through doctors, if they happen to be first or second cousins.
[sanjeev1984] To those, who feel khaap-panchayat should not be there to take decision about these kind of matters : go and ask govt & judicial bodies why the hell they consult "maulwies" when they have to fix any muslim law or for the trial of any criminal case againt any muslim guy.
[JS] No judicial body has ever consulted to muslim bodies for any criminal case. This has happened only in your dreams. However, for civil case they may take reference to the judgements as long as that abides to the Constitution of India.
The issue with your Khap Panchayats is that not only they are undemocratic, but they also do not represent the crux of the society. Otherwise, the Karnal honour killing would have never happened.
[sanjeev1984] To those, who marry within same gotra : either they are uneducated or i feel they are mentally retarted case, we must provide a good psycological consultent to them.
[JS] Please refer my comment to your first item.
[sanjeev1984] To those, who support the judgemnt about the case : i think judicial system is the requirement of the society for its betterment and not on the cost of distuction of certain very logical ritual, values and customes. this kind of judgements are going to distroy the society instead of improving it.
[JS] In no way the judgement has harmed Jat tradition, it has taught a lesson to the people who have no respect for the lives of innocent people. I would have preferred Death Sentence to all the panchayat members and police personnel who helped the killers as well.
[sanjeev1984] To those, who say killing them is not the solution : i strongly support them. killing is never the solution. but i want to ask one thing what you can do for them so that they avoid taking such steps of getting married in same gotra. i think u can teach them, educate them what else. and even after all of your efforts they are on the same track what you should do? and i think it is the situation of mental block for them (i.e. mentally retarted) lemme share some information about spartians. they (spartians) used to kill their own sons/daughters (imperfect) to ensure that their future generations will be healthier and stronger (physically and mentally)
to be continued.....
[JS] I have already suggested the solution from my end, and I am sure this will be far better if we keep such cases integrated within the society, so that for future it is easy to educate people with their experiences. I read a research on the British people of Pakistani origin, wherein 55% of people marry to either first or second cousins and around 16% of the offsprings born to them die prematurely due to genetic disorders.
