Love - whether it emanates from heart or brain?

The following was posted by someone on Facebook which I found thought provoking and worthy of discussion:


“HEART OR MIND?---------Does the heart fall in love or the brain? It is brain my friends!! WHEN A PERSON FALLS IN LOVE, 12 AREAS OF BRAIN WORK IN TANDEM to release euphoria-inducing chemicals to cause feeling of love. So unromantic!!!! Different areas of midbrain show heightened activities for different kinds of love, whether parental or passionate.”

I was wondering if love - parental or passionate - is just a feeling which is produced and propelled by brain only, then it is totally a materialistic concept and nothing more than a pre-conceived and calculated lust aimed at self gratification. But apparently it does not seem to be so simple to explain it away just a materialistic concept.

Every action thought is provoked from human brain only but body responds to it so brain asks heart to pump blood faster resulting in misunderstand of human beings ;-)
 
Scientifically all the emotions emanate from brain because suitable chemicals are released,whether it is love or hate.But we tend to asociate the emotions with our heart,and so we say that love emanates from heart.
 
Well, I have a differnt thought to offer....
Both are wrong....heart and mind....I think it is eyes...who are the culprit....Yaad nahi....wo song Omkara se....

Nainon ki mat maaniyon re nainon ke mat suniyo ...Nainon ki mat suniyo re Naina thag lenge :P

why one's heart doesn't throbs and mind doesn't dream for an ugly face...... b/c it is eyes, who gives signal to the brain to decide that...next person is good or bad... and mind control the heart beats.... so it is you people to decide who is the culprit....
Technically speaking... can your heart throb for person whom you have not seen....and the same goes to mind as well....

Ankur, it seems to be true in case of passionate love which originates from the primal instincts. But love for parents has nothing to do with eyes. Even if a child was born blind and never saw the face of his/her parents, he/she is bound to have love for them. Similarly, even if the parents are blind, they would love their children as their love is not determined by the mere sight of their children. In both cases, love would be spontaneous. Again, it is controversial question whether this love originates from brain or heart.

Facebook is the last resort to be thought provoking. It just reminded me of a friend's statement that Facebook is for children and women. However few times it can be thought provoking though.

What if love is directly from gonads.?

Heart and mind are further rationalisation of simple sexual attraction. Courtsey : Estrogen and Testosterone.
 
you started the thread with quote asking about how you fell in love.when it comes to parental love or a child's love for his parents.its come naturally from mother nature ,even animals have the same instinct.you started the thread with with something else and now supporting it with something else.pleasedo not mix parental love with the so called chemically induced love.

It doesn't matter whether love emanates from heart or brain. The important thing is this that love does have its effect. As mostly people in this world are characterless, deceitful and cunning so it is not easy to get love here. To have sex with some attractive person and to have love, both are different things. The desire, struggle, hard work for love play a big role in it. If someone is starved for love then if even a ugly person comes in his/her life then one can fall in love. So it is not right to say that physical attraction is everything in love. It's a great feeling that his/her lover has decided to be of his/her only. It's an achievement. If any of partners cheat, then it's his/her fault.

I have re-checked my post. I do not seem to have started the thread with the quote asking anyone "how you fell in love". I have simply quoted someone and given my opinion that love (other than passionate love) is not just a materialistic concept. For example parental love is something natural. Similarly a child's love for his/her parents is something inborn and has nothing to do with looks/sight. I hope it is clear to you now. Now go ahead with your own interpretation of love -passionate or otherwise. Well, love for parents and vice-versa, also falls in the category of love. We are not talking about passionate love only - or a love between a young boy and a girl to be more precise. We are talking about all sorts of love.

Love is something like standing on the roof of a tall building and falling from it. Your mind says "it is wrong" whereas your heart says "You can fly BETA!" :)

Feeling are not modulated by conscious thoughts be it anykind of feeling. every living being has got four basic instincts sleep/sex/hunger and defense and they come naturally, you dont have to learn them.

For me love is an instinctive reaction. I mean every individual have different instincts and it can not change these instinctive programs. Offcourse these instincts are connected to our neural structure.

Now suppose, your instincts likes a particular type of male or female, appearance, body structure etc.. These neural structure are triggred whenever the profile fitted in your instincts matches with some external signal that are actually required by instincts.This raises the feeling of its correctness. One can not think or analyse in this case. Some think that this feeling is supereme but actually it judges the other person very superficially which initiate a strategy for choosing the partner. Mind does nothing in this case but just justify the answers.

Now the question is that may be human instincts have a picture or profile of its partner and fullfilling that requirement can create that feeling but what about children? The genes and DNA transferred to a child by parents might be the strong connection and reason of that feeling.

A man can love other women more than his wife but he loves his own children more than other's. Same is the case with Women.
