Does education through open is worth?

Many people complete their higher10th,12th or graduation through open exams.
Is it worth to have such Education in real sense?
Or it is just a way to be eligible for certain jobs which consider "Open Education".
Aren't we lowering education standards by doing this ?

There is a cut throat competition in this country to get a job. As a result of which, even post graduates apply for a role of peon (not making this up, I have seen it myself).
Aajkaal, BA te koye karta ae na dikhta. MBA, MCA, BE, BCA attram shattram kar ke 70 dhaal ki degree ho ri hain.
Not everyone is brilliant in studies, some find it hard to concentrate on studies. But an individual is forced to study so that he/she can be considered eligible for certain job. Ek dost hai mera, jugaad bhida ke open te 12 kar li, NDA ka test pass kar liya nakal maar ke, Captain ban ra hai ib. fauj me kon dekhega uska academic performance? CBSE/ICSE/HBSE ke 12th ke exam me vo 3 saaala me bhi paas na hota. agle ki te life ban gi. Standard or bhateri cheeja ka neeche ho ra hai, agar kisse ki life banti ho to koye buraayi kona isme.

i think the bigger point in today context is Quality of education not the quantum.there is big mis-match between Industry requirement and what institutions/university are offering.Am not talking sarkari?babu types jobs where only degree is reqired as first threshold to get in.
as i understood our Education system seems to degree/job driven instead of innovation/Creativeness.

Even we are told since birth to become Engineering/Doctor/MBA/CA etc. from good university and we become just tunned in to this and even don't think life beyond these in terms of new innovation trajectory( there are cases of innovation/creativity but that is on lower side compared to couple of developed world.)

Also Distance/classroom learning doesn't make any big difference beyond certain level bcose after certain level once own will/discipline/eager to achieve comes in to play than any other things.

Private companies :-

Government Companies :-
यहाँ पर open education या regular education ज्यादा मायने नहीं रखता |बस योग्यता पूरी होनी चाहिए post के अनुसार |

education depends on an individual.
but for discussion i like to divideit into two levels- school and college level

for school level:

now a days in the era of private coaching, students doesn't want to go to school and many schools admit them as non attending students who pays their dues, study at home and gives exams

some students can prefer to give exams through this open system as in this case they will save the monthly fees (already taking private coaching) n will still get a certificate at the end of session

some students due to financial problems are not able to attend school regularly and for them its a good way to have certificates(after clearing exams) in hand for future use(higher study or some short career oriented course )

sometimes if a student fails in a school exam then he can go for this open exam to save his one year (sometimes they fill both forms if they have doubts about passing one exam)
or to save himself from attending the school again for a year

at college level:

for this these are the reasons why someone can go for open education system

1) financial aspect which is understood by everyone and i don't feel the need to elaborate on that.

2) non availability of a good college in their reason

3) some students (CA etc) gets a degree through open education system

4) some students have a bigger aim like civil exams and for which they might prefer this system and can use the other resources(time, money) in preparing for this only and by open education system they will be able to fulfill minimum criteria for these exams

if we want to discuss about the education standard then i will say that this system covers the same syllabus as other regular universities with a few minor changes.exam papers are set by the same persons who set it in regular universities.

how much knowledge one wants to gain depends on the person himself.if he is willing to get some, then he will certainly gain some by books. a person having degree through open education system can be more knowledge then the one who got his degree in a regular or correspondence course

but then it all means if he had been to a regular course then he might have been much better.

we can say that open, correspondence and regular are same as for engineering we have a local engineering college, then a good college in that region and then iits or bits or nits.

Up to a certain extent I agree to the points being made here by you, but what I have seen in most of the cases is that only those who are not able to clear exams through regular studies prefer Open Education.

No doubt it helps many to get a degree, but is it the only thing education has been made for?

as u said "only those who are not able to clear exams through regular studies prefer Open Education.",
similarly what to do about those who use unfair means to clear any exam or what to do about those who pay money to pass an exam.

every system has loop holes and we dont have power to shut them down.we will hav to accept them as they are.

if u will see the overall picture, then open education system helps a lot of people in getting education, qualification and jobs

but if u will say about standard then its not that bad...though in this system its easy to pass bcoz of unfair means

Idea is to make the system better that can only be achieved through improved education at all levels and in all formats.
Unfair means and money thing are more worse than this. Overall upheaval in to the Education in the need of the hour

for that u will need to change the basic education system...........

but in my view policy makers are going in opposite direction.........

now u can get pass certificate till XII class without doing nything

I have seen many housewives using open/distance education to get degrees as they are unable to attend classes throughout the year.

how? quote only if u hav to agree or contradict to a point

I know many people have poor social skills here on JL (see your reply above). Telling/instructing others what they should or should not do, is a prime example.
A better strategy (in my opinion) is to state, for example, in your case : "I would quote somebody only if I have to agree or contradict a point." Howz that?

Let me give two real examples:-
When I was in Noida staying at a PG, 3 people joined the PG, (they all are my friend now) two were yadavs and one muslim (just quoting it because there is a possibility that 'reservation' might had inspired them initially, however, as you will learn, the 'reservation' or their cast/religion did not matter in the end). All of them had studied through open (at least from 12th onwards, I am not sure how they studied before that). All of them had completed their B.E and PG (after BE) from the "The Institution of Engineers (India)" which provides an open education system for the engineering courses. Two of them got jobs in JP collage Noida and were drawing handsome salary of around 27,000 (that was around year 2000) and the third one got a lecturer job in G.Noida. (All in private got jobs in private institutions, so you can see, finally, reservation did not matter to them). They all are hardworking people who preferred the IEI way. IEI costs just a penny w.r.t an full time engineering course.

Another person, around the same time, went to south, paid around 2 lakh (and another one around 3 lakh) for BE. It should be noted that there were only two engineering collages that time in Haryana, and only one in Delhi.

At around the same time, one person bought a piece of land for about 1 lakh, which is around 50 lakh today - just to give you an extreme end of return on investment.

Another importance statistics is that, for open courses like IGNOU, etc, my estimate is that the final pass percentage is less then 5%. So if 100 applied for open course, only less then 5 of them completed the full course, had these same 100 people would have studied in a full time collage then more than 80 of them would have completed the course.

Information on recognition of The Institution of Engineers (India):- http://www.ieindia.info/RECOGNITION.aspx

All in all, open education is fantastic tool for those highly inspired, hard-working people who have a dream, but not enough resources.
