Hillary Clinton's visit to India

US secretary of state Hillary Clinton's visit to India is the issue of talks these days. Iran oil supply and FDI in retail are the two main issues which are looked in to two main contexts - 1. American 2. Indian

American context - Some people perceive it to be appropriate. They claim that it is her duty to visit India to look for new avenues for business and all. But i do not agree with them as it is unethical. Building pressure on India by meeting a state chief minister for her personal benefits is not at all ethical. Lobbying a CM on a central issue shows how desperate she is on the FDI in retail.

Indian context - 1. Visiting a state CM prior to visit our PM reflects that a policy of 'Divide and Rule' is being executed by the astute USA.
2. Iran is our 2nd biggest source of oil and we should not restrict our oil import from Iran just for the sake of USA's happiness. India should take it seriously and should not bow to this pressure politics. It is the government of India, and not the USA, which has to decide where, how and what quantity of oil is going to be imported from which country.

India should take a firm stand on her foreign trade policy and leave an exemplary message not only to USA but also to all the other concerned countries.

Hmmm....Govt should take Dr. Sunramanian Swamy opinion to tackle this situtation

Dr Swamy has written in an article:

"..............Americans are very simple people if you have a deal with them on a give and take basis. If you want something from an American, offer him something in return which he needs. Then he will respond fully. Americans in the past were irritated with us because we took their aid, and yet voted against them in the UN. Americans are straight forward, contractual minded people, whereas we are highly moralistic people who do not like to reveal our mind.

...I asked the Ambassador: "What will India get by doing so?" The Ambassador was taken back. He said it was a moral imperative for the world, since Kuwait had been crushed by Iraq's invasion. I laughed at the US ambassador. I told him "Listen Excellency, ten years in the US as a student and as a professor has made me more American than you. You keep your moral imperative, but give me a deal". I explained our problem to him. He was very sympathetic. As I expected, he immediately responded. Thereafter President Bush and Chandrasekhar were in touch with each other. The $ 2 billion arrived without any conditions!"

we, the people of India, are moralistic and i do not find anything wrong in it. We believe in "Atithi Devo Bhav" and take care of our guests but sometimes we are carried away with the demands of our guests.

USA - if they are simple then i do not know what a complex is. Yes, they truly believe in give and take. They take more from you than they give to you and it can be verified by the below mentioned facts -

they take an engineer (osama) and give a terrorist to the world........

they take away the peace from Iraq and give them bombs in its return..............

they take part in India-Pakistan conflicts as a peace maker/mediator and in return sell them war weapons to fight with one another.....

they invades (Afghanistan) with fake reasons and give their own controlled government in return...........

It depends on one's outlook how you take things: means in good perspective or bad perspective. But it is true that in today's world at the international level the policy is give and take.

You are right Gulia Sahib. International policy of a nation depends on the principle: first preserve the self interest of one's country then anything else.

You are right that instead of mending our own fences, it is easy to blame others for tress passing!

India's relations with America satrted improving a little bit when Jimmy Carter became President of US and in real sense relations started improving when Bajpai became PM. I will say that India's relation were bad with America during Nehru era and rather too bad during Indira era.
