Seems you give a lot of weight to incitement and surprisingly bring up 1984 riots in the same argument. By your logic, 1984 riots were justified as well, right? After all the mobs had lost their beloved leader at the hands of her own bodyguards. So what if the mobs came organized with voter lists, petrol and with full support of the local Congress leaders? It was all justified since they were incited.

The same happened in Gujarat. Just the perpetrators and victims were different. And this time the BJP, VHP and its off shoots took the Congress' place. The role of the police and administration remained the same.

Ha ha.. I was looking for your support to Desi and here you are.. By the way, did you interpret my question "independently" or you took "desi's" posts in the context and then evaluated? I seriously assume that you selected the former approach, since you and desi are blind followers. I am reiterating (i know its of no use, but still) ,when you are raising questions on 2002, did you consider 1984 as a holy massacare? I, still know, both of you will show your "deep understanding" and "impaccable debate skills (as assumed by you two)" to evade answering the rightful question. And do keep in mind, the question was raised after "bhagat desi" had questioned 2002. If you are raising questions on 2002, then your protests should be more stronger for 1984. Those people are still waiting for justice for 28 years.

If that is the case then why modi is called "Maut ka saudagar" where as Rajiv is called a "Man with a vision" by same people ?

Depends who you ask. Modi is also called Vikash Purush and has already been anointed the man to lead India by many.

Rajiv was Indira's 'waris' and in spite of the 1984 riots won the next elections by the biggest of margins.

Both cases are a poignant comment on the state of the Indian public, dont you think?

I feel last few posts have been nothing less than hypocrisy. Nowhere did I justify 1984 riots then why are you writing sagas of how Congress did this and that?

Save yourself the effort of copy paste, I criticize both equally, I wish you did it too in stead of protecting Modi who have been questioned by many, including courts and his own policemen.

BTW here is an excerpt of what Intl Human Right association said:

"India's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), an official body, found evidence in the killings of premeditation by members of Hindu extremist groups; complicity by Gujarat state government officials; and police inaction in the midst of attacks. The NHRC also noted "widespread reports and allegations of well-organized persons, armed with mobile telephones and addresses, singling out certain homes and properties for death and destruction in certain districts-sometimes within view of police stations and personnel," suggesting the attacks may have been planned in advance."

The Indian Supreme Court has been strongly critical of the state government's investigation and prosecution of those accused of violence during the riots, directing police to review about 2,000 of the 4,000 riot related cases that had been closed citing lack of evidence or leads. Following this direction, police identified nearly 1,600 cases for reinvestigation, arrested 640 accused and launched investigations against 40 police officers for their failures.

Eight people, including a VHP leader and a member of the BJP, were convicted for the murder of seven members of a family and the rape of two minor girls in the village of Eral in Panchmahal district

....

I can go on and on if only you wish to wake up to reality.

P.S. I am again saying, 1984 was not right either so dont waste your time to justify congress's role thr

Can somebody explain this???

"2:30 PM: Modi requested neighborhood states (Dighvijay Singh(Congress) ruled MP, Ashok Gehlot (Congress) ruled Rajasthan and Vilasrao Deshmukh (Congress) ruled Maharashtra) to deploy extra Police Force to Gujarat to control the situation. All three CMs turned down the request of Modi and refused to deploy the force."

I dont know Desi and only post where I feel like posting. If that translates into supporting him or being a Congress supporter, so be it. I hardly care what you think. You are not in a position to make assumptions on my political allegiance on the basis of exchange of a few posts on this forum. Keep at it with pleasure.

I just saw your post and it appeared you place a lot of importance on incitement. True in a country like ours where emotions rule the masses, inciting or provoking can be an important factor in creating communal riots. But that doesn't lessen the role of the govt. machinery. Time and again, be it be the Congress or the BJP, the govt. had not only stood by and watched as mobs took over but people in power have colluded and supported massacres. This happened in 1947 in East and West Punjab, 1984 in Delhi and 2002 in Gujarat.

Now to your question on raising the demand for justice for 1984 before criticizing Modi for 2002 - both are mutually exclusive events. Modi supporters use 1984 as a defense for 2002. As if to say, the lack of justice for 1984 makes it unjustified to raise 2002. Why? Cant the two demands for justice be separate? Why to link them? Just because justice wasn't served properly in 1984 means it won't be served in 2002? I say try everyone independently. Try Congress leaders like Sajjan, Bhagat, Tytler, Kamal Nath. Try the local level Gujarati Muslim League activists for Godhra and RSS and VHP activists and BJP ministers for the riots. But with the partisan investigative agencies and the judiciary with hands tied, nothing will happen.

Coming back to my political allegiance. I dont mind the BJP. In fact its probably a better option than Congress. But I don't agree with Modi as a choice for PM. He is remorseless (please dont ask me to check if Sonia showed remorse for 1984) and sends out a bad message to the world.

Please share sources and links to corroborate these course of events. Different sources could have different course of events, so its best we have perspective.

Seems like Modi was pretty active trying to ensure riots dont happen. Can you then explain how Mayaben Kodnani, Naroda MLA and the recently convicted BJP minister managed to organize riots and kill innocents? Did she act independently and defied Modi and her party? Below is an account of her role from her Wiki page. And please check references from the Indian Express report here.

[h=2]Role in the 2002 Gujarat riots[/h]Kodnani has been accused of involvement in the massacre of 95 people during the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia riots that followed the Godhra train burning in February of 2002. [SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][3][/SUP] Though she denied being at the scene of the massacre, witnesses testified that she handed out swords to Hindu rioters, exhorted them to attack Muslims and at one point fired a pistol,[SUP][7][/SUP] and, according to testimony in the court, mobile phone records indicated that she was present at the scene of the riots. She was tried and, on August 31, 2012, convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder by a court in Ahmedabad and was sentenced to 28 years in prison.[SUP][7][/SUP][SUP][8][/SUP]

I just saw your post and it appeared you place a lot of importance on incitement.

Your interpretations are not good at all. Your this post suggests that you give your opinion just on first look and dont "analyze" (which is very necessary to be an excellent debator!). That's where you ignored the context I was talking about. Read through Desi's post and understand the context first, then come to a conclusion. Dont just assume things.

True in a country like ours where emotions rule the masses, inciting or provoking can be an important factor in creating communal riots. But that doesn't lessen the role of the govt. machinery. No-one is supporting 2002 either.. what made you believe that? your assumptions? When a particular thing is highlighted, which the people of Gujarat have already put behind and SIT has already given a clean chit to Modi, doesnt mean that it has to be accepted by all and one since it was posted by some congress party worker.
If you can question Modi, others can question you and desi in the same way. When you talk about 2002, why you hide the fact that even after 28 years 1984 victims have not got justice. before pointing fingures on Modi, did you do a introspection on what congress has done? Both 1984 and 2002 are wrong, but why highlight only 2002?

What we all see here is that you and desi always find good things in most rubbish things that Congress does, and try to find all the negatives if someone else apart from congress is doing something good. Modi has already slapped on Congress's face winning by a huge margin (including muslim majority seats) despite of their cheap tactics. And further to your esteemed knowledge, being anti-congress doesnt mean pro-bjp. I dont support BJP and many of us wont, but if a person from that party has done something good, we shouldn't be throwing all the unncessary mud on him. I support development and whoever does it should get the due appreciation.

Doesnt look like you read my previous post carefully.

Again, why are you asking me about Congress and 1984? How is that related to 2002? Both were horrible crimes. Since this thread is about Modi, 2002 will be brought in. If it was a thread about Congress (as there are many) 1984 will be discussed. And its my prerogative to discuss the events I want to. I feel people tend to cover up 2002 by using Modi's development (doubtful) agenda and hence I comment.

In the same vein, being anti-Modi doesnt mean being anti-BJP or pro-Congress. And what you call unnecessary mud is a legitimate stain on his profile as a leader. And thats my opinion which I believe I am entitled to.

Pardon me, but unlike some here, I do not feel everything that the govt does is a folly simply because the govt is led by Congress. There are some decent ideas like UID Aadhar, Cash disbursements etc. Simply trashing them because they are being introduced in the time of Congress is perhaps the biggest show of blindness and hypocrisy.

And Modi can slap as many faces of Congress as he wants to. Not my concern at all. I am not going to lose sleep over it. I just look at Modi as a remorseless person with dubious record covered up by a supposedly development agenda. And in this criteria he shares a lot in common with Rajiv Gandhi.

Again you missed the context. Anyways not your fault.

This is hypocrisy. When SIT (not formed by Modi) has given a clean chit to Modi, on what basis are you claiming this "legitimate stain"?

And thats my opinion which I believe I am entitled to.
On one side you say opinions are based on facts and on other side you ignore facts! ;)

UID Adhar is going to be heavily misused if not implemented properly. There is huge black-marketing sitting around the corner of UID. Cash disbursement, linked to UID now can fail this scheme. "trashing" ha ha.. are you serious that we trashed UID? when? where? As mentioned earlier I support development, but not at cost of "ghotalas" like CWG. Waise jo khel gaon CWG me develop hua tha Mananiya Shri kalmadi ji ke netritav me, usme aaj bhains ghumti hai. what is the use of wasting such hell lot of money on such infrastructure?

Padosi states se help ki request Modi ne sari media or Farukh Abdullah ke saamne Diggi Raja ko boli thi, or iska jawab Digvijay Singh ke pass na to tha or na kabhi hoga... Agar Digvijay Singh aaj bol de ki mugjhe Modi ne koi request nahi ki thi, or iske evidence dikha de to mai baki logo ki tarah sur mai sur mila ke Modi ko galiya dounga...

Or ruhi baat Mayaben Kodnani ki to mai yahi kahunga ki usne galat kiya to usko saja bhi mili hai or vo bhugat bhi ruhi hai... lakin Mayaben ne jo kiya uske liye Modi ko target kyon kiya jaye... or agar Mayaben ko Cabinet mai hone/BJP ka leader hone ke karan, Modi ko bhi saath mai lapetna hai to Atal Bihari ko kaise chooda ja sakta hai???

Doosra, Mayaben sirf akeli leader nahi thi jisne riots mai ulte-seedhe kaam kiye the... Congress ke bhi bahot sare leaders the... agar Modi ko lapet ruhe ho to Congress ke bade leaders ko kaise chooda ja sakta hai???

Please share sources and links to corroborate these course of events. Different sources could have different course of events, so its best we have perspective.

Beware! Comparing one crime with other is like justifying one or the other. It spreads negativity.

PS:
Americans did this when they massacred innocent Japanese with Atom Bombs. Beware of Americans too!
