We all know how good is democracy in India, Let us not deviate, Khaps are better undemocratic in nature. You have villege Panchayats, very democratic in nature, so why you want one more institution. Any way...
You are not the only brother who mentioned development. Any way I do not like to make it any personal, how does it help in naming anyway. Why do not you go ahead and push your MLA/MP, instead of expecting Khaps to do it on your behalf. Individual people like you and me have voted them, but we want Khaps to do our work.
Praise khaps for the good work they are doing, do not blame them if your elected members are not doing their duty.

1. In democracy, representatives are elected by secret ballot where as Khap leaders draw their titles from their family lineage. There is basic difference. Therefore, I doubt they represent feelings of majority.
An election or referendum may be held as a sample survey on this site to have an idea of the latest opinion of the community fellows registered here about the continuation, legacy and functioning of Khaps.

2. Yes, I was that brother (you could have named me, why the oblique reference), who advocated "why khaps do not engage themselves in developmental activities". I maintain my statement and reiterate in bold letters "Having some influence among the community, the khap leaders may pressurize the politicians from their respective khaps to devote more time and funds to undertake the developmental activities in their constituencies". Who is suggesting that they should formulate projects and execute the same. Of course, government will do that but someone has to pressurise the government through the political representatives/legislatures. What wrong had I said. Did I commit a crime by showing some concern about the backwardness of the community.,

We are talking big about unity of Jats and do not have the courage to address each other directly by name. (Kya ham ek doosre ke jeth lagte hain, jo naam lene me sharam aati hai.) We have a tendency to refer each other only in an oblique/cryptic manner. If I have said something wrong knowingly or unknowingly and some of you do not agree with that why don't you address your comments directly to me without conveying via Bhatinda and being sarcastic. It shows that all these unity talks are just hollow rhetoric. If we are so egoistic and shy of addressing each other directly, then why this brohaha about unity.

You can silence people of our community who are simply pointing out the drawbacks of our community leadership for the sake of the prestige of the community, but you may not be able to silence the entire national media and other communities who are critical of the autocratic behaviour of the Khaps and the honour killings etc. We the so called "neo-liberals" or the aborigines are not enemies of Jat community. Everyone is entitled to one's opinion and so we are. My dear Jat fellows please do not try to suppress the free flow of opinions on this forum. Let people express themselves without any censorship. The moment we will start writing something undemocratic or un-parliamentary, moderators are there to censor us.

As far as Hindu Marriage Act is concerned, it is not solely meant for Hindu Jats, this is meant for the entire Hindu Community. I think we are not in majority in relation to the entire Hindu community. Other communities which form a majority opinion do not have any problem with this Act. I do not think any such demand from just one fraction of the Hindu religion which is in minority, will be met by the government. Moreover, no political party has so far come forward to endorse this demand. Those who are trying for any amendment, good luck to them. Moreover, simply amendment in the Hindu Marriage Act will not change the mindset of the new generation. You need to inculcate the good values in the minds of your children and provide them ample counselling. Aaj ke wakt mein koi apni aulad ko sambhal le wahi kafi hai, samaj ko kabu mein karn to door ki baat hai.

What do you mean by masal news? Mr. Vijay Kumar has simply quoted Mr. Bijender Mann having said so which is quite true. It was a live telecast watched by millions and not fabricated by NDTV. The way Mr. Dhankhar was conducting himself on this live programme reflected very badly on the image of Jat community. He got hyper many times and heckled the lady panelists at several occasions. His comments about Manoj's mother while talking to Manoj's sister were also not in good taste. Being a representative of such a big and civilized community he is supposed to adhere to the norms of civilized discussion before a TV screen. The other gentleman Mr. Bijender Mann was, however, able to put across his views in a very sensible manner. He seemed to be registering his academic resentment to only the same gotra marriage and not the murder. Importantly, Mr. Dhankhar had a volte face and was wise enough not to support honour killing, at least in front of the TV camera which saved the community from further ignominy.

What do you mean by Academic Resentment?

Its Mr. Bijender who quoted Mr. Vijay Kumar that murder is not OK..Even killing a dog is not OK.

Ok if you have objection to the word 'academic' you have the choice to remove this prefix and only read resentment.

Thanks for your clarification. There is a difference between an individual approaching the MP/MLA and a pressure group doing so. A pressure group (Khap) can be more forceful than a pressure from an individual. But, if you do not want them to undertake this job, fine. Your enlightened views have been noted with due respect.

These panchayats helped S.P Sirsa, Shrikant Jaghav to resolve murder cases which were not resolved by our Judicial System over the years. Helped our judicial system to speed up. And are helping in resolving other social issues.

The need is to reform and speed up our judicial system and not to delegate powers to undemocratic and unrepresentative Kangaroo courts who deliver medieval justice.

I like Mr Bijender when he said " we are the late entrants to hinduism and we would be early leaver". I also like when Mr Dhankar said " Pahle ye pata karlo khap hoti kaya he"
I agree with Biju that killing of even a dog is not good. I like that Tai who said" Ab kaya ham apni betiyon ko gam me baya ke layenge". My maa probably would have said the same.

Civil law are basically to protect the values which we have in our society as general. Hindu marriage act permits same gotra marriage but I think 90% Jats (though I believe 99%) doesn’t support it. An amendment in the marriage act for the Jat tribe's wouldnt be wrong or unjustifiable or undemocratic. When we can have a different Muslim marriage act why not a special one for Jats.

Its democracy and there will be people who wont believe in this as there are lot of influence on an individual mind these days TV, interaction with other communities, 'education' or liberalisation of mind. Every individual has the right to choose his own path. For those who want to marry in the same Gotras or village they can declare themselves to be 'liberal jat' and should be allowed to marry as per hindu Act. Its also the right of other 'conservative jat' whether to speak to them or not or to have any social connection with them. I guess by that way family wont have to do the honour killing. That way we can have two communities among Jats like Shia and Sunni in muslims. Doesn’t matter what name we give them. I am OK with inter-caste marriage (e.g marriage between a harijan/pandit and a jat) provided they are from different village. I know some examples where khaps hasn’t objected to these and I don’t think they would. Yes some families could have problem marrying a harijan but Khap wouldn't interfere in that. Its upto that particular family. But If Khap interfere here than I wont support them on this.

Khaps are not Talibanis they are our own people, our elders, please dont speak media language. 'Talibani' is just a catchy word for Media and few others. Also development issues cant be related to khaps they are panchayats issues. Panchayats also get funds from the govt to 'develop' their village. Yes social issues like dowry can be related to our 'khaps' somehow.

I think some panchayats are undemocratic. In my neighbouring village there was a reservation of seat for 'harijan'. So a harijan got elected though they don’t have majority but jats were forced to chose a harijan. After 3 years villagers found that sarpanch is misusing the panchayat funds (in crore). All villager got together and forced harijan to resign but than the villagers had no option but to choose another harijan. His wife was the main contender but someone from his extended family won. This is also not democracy but villagers never objected to it because they understand the concept of reservation so why cant other people understand our concern and let us amend the hindu marriage with a little amendment in the act for the conservative Jat tribes act which doesn’t represent at least my family value otherwise if We have to leave Hinduism to protect our values I am ready.

This is just a 'khayal' in my mind and the time has come when we all have to sit together and find a solution which would be agreeable to both sides ( liberals and conservative).

Excerpt from wiki just for a thought :

Mahatma Gandhi advocated Panchayati Raj, a decentralized form of Government where each village is responsible for its own affairs, as the foundation of India's political system. His term for such a vision was "Gram Swaraj" (Village Self-governance).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panchayati_raj

Panchayats are there to help our judicial system to speed up and that is what they are doing...The introduction of this system in our constitution is for some reasons..And that is why our PM is insisting on the same..These honor killings are overly hyped by media running by refugees..On top of that some people in our society are also hell bent on destroying the image of these Khap Panchayats. Khap Panchayats never ordered such killing. They condemn such heinous crime.

You seem to be confusing Panchayati Raj with Khap raj. Panchayats are democratically elected bodies and enjoy popular confidence. Panchayats are more representatives as these are voted to power by all sections of society and not only one particular clan. Who is opposing Panchayat's functioning?

I am not confused with Khaps and Panchayats...I do understand the difference between these two..I am only obsessed with the criticism of Khaps..Khaps are there to help our system..Khaps are custom of our society..The excerpt i have put in one of my post is to justify the existence of Khaps..That is why i said..Just for a thought..

Atish Bhai, you are very prompt in your reply. OK brother, I respect your opinion on the subject while maintaining status quo as far as mine is concerned. A lot has already been discussed under this thread. All the aspects have been discussed length and breadth. It has become boring now. Let us go to some other thread. Anyway cheer up.

Atish and Vipin, a nice put up. To add further this gotra avoidance thing in conjugational matters is not just limited to jats. In northern region major castes are following this benefitial biological system of successfull conjugational strategy. Media knows that if they will say 'jat' it is sure that there TRP would shoot up. In last decade when news channels were poping up out of an hour programme at DD, I remember a reporter was reporting with a mike in hand and few pahalwan were standing in surrounding. He said,'' Aap dekhiye mai yahan pit raha hoon aur mujhe viswas nahi ki mai yahan Jato ke beech se sahi salamat se ja paaunga.'' It was a reporting of a scene where some plot of a Jat were Kabzaed by an industerialist in Delhi area. In present time, these yankee denizens of miasmic headlines deserve the same smite with continous below the belt jabs. Sooner or later. They must be sued with hundreds of cases for the use of insulting word- Taliban for a community who has been filling the belly of these imbecile knaves. This would be the just right retort to these insinine and gander pouty Pachouris. I would like to be a part of such discussions at Undy TV if they dare to invite.

There is not a single Khap in Sirsa. Villeges have panchayat which are democratically elected bodies as per constitution of India.

I hope you know the difference between a democratically elected Panchayat and a clan (Gotra) oriented Khap.

uncle ji,by reading and wataching tilted media reports , it's simple to compare khap panchayat with kangaroo courts. these kangaroo courts do a lot help to the inhabitant of villages.there is no. of marriage disputes, money recovery matters, family settlement regarding moveable or immovable property are also effectively being handled by these.

vipin bhai Constitutionally they are democratic but ,seems to be the result of this reservation system again constitutionally. and this is not the story of only your own village, you take example of others where there is reserved catogary candidate's.

Brother just watch that video again. SP sirsa yadav/jhadav who was posted in jahjjar when khap helped him to solve around 30 cases. and now he is in Sirsa.
