Sampuran, first of all thanks for reviving almost dead thread.... I guess you misunderstood my point.. I never said that women were treated badly in ancient India(though even this reality is not just black and white), in fact your arguments consolidates my point... I would again recomment following article

Vinod
PS: Sampuran, SangwanJI mat bolo yaar... Binod akela chalega....

But I would differ with Kalkhandeji and Vinod Sangwanji . Sex based partiality was not common in ancient India as some people would like us to believe. Let me give some samples directly from the Rig Ved. [/SIZE]

Women???

This world spins around women. There is nothing which can be completed or even dreamt in their absence. They are THE ESSENCE of life. I admire and salute them from the bottom of my heart. They are respect worthy, full of love, dignity and purpose. I can't imagine life without them. Let us respect and adore them and get best out of them. Men can construct huge houses but these houses will be called HOMES only when women enters inside and fill those hoses with love and feelings. God dwells where Women get respect.

He he he. Lagta hai chacha ke hisab se sabhi aurat chacchi jaise hain.
Lekin chacha, just like most things in life, women too come in a whole
gamut of personalities. While it is true that there are many who we'd like
to respect and love and kiss their pretty little feet, there are also many more
who we'd like to lure to the top of a very tall building and clandestinely push
when no one is watching. ;)

So lets stay grounded and treat them like they are...another set of human
beings.

bilkul sahi baat kahi Rathi bhai...jo respect karne layak hai usko respect milni chahiye and jo nahi hai usko respect faltu me q mile....

everyone should get what they are worthy of.....no more and no less...fir woh chahe women ho ya men....

Is it really a modern world?

kadam se kadam mila kar chalna....I think all this is nice to say & hear about today's modern woman. But have we ever thought...the moment a girl tries to be independent...so called modern ..our society doesn't let her be that way. Calls her names...relatives misquote her...friends & neighbors mock her..strangers tease her .I am a well educated person, having studied from the best school & colleges in Delhi, but I think all this is crap about a woman being independent & modern ......its a farce.

The need today is not to make the girl modern, but the society has to change its outlook, change the way it percieves. When that happens it will be a safe place for woman, where she can grow and achieve her independence.
How many men don't stare at a woman wearing a skirt? ????? that's my question

Chhikara

anjanaji ur question is rey compex and i would say that there has been a ot of injustice done to the women folk especially in communities like jats, but at the sametime u r not looking at he changing trends. most of the educated jats are not differentating between their boys and girls. even now a days girls are getting more attention then the boys. thought the it would sti take a lot of time to change the whoe of the community and we reay need to start thinking into broader manner. i do agree with u that the girls should have a right to study and they shoud get the same treatment as the boys get but at the same time it the girls responsibilty as wel to take care that under the name of total independence she should not forget the morals and customs of the fmily, he family background where she is coming from, if she has been supported by the family for the whole of her ife shouls should aso think about them. gone are those days when people used to think ladkiyan bhooj hoti hai, go into any of the towns in haryana, most of the jats are sending their daughters to public school, most of the parents are doing the same thing what they are doing for their sons and sometimes even more, but whne these girls get a bit more educated, then they start taking about independence, what independence are they ooking for i stil coud not get into my mind.
most of the parents bring up their kids in the best of the the conditions they can provide trashing al their dreams and thinking that one day their kids would suceed in thier dream and bring glory to them, but reality is something differnt . only some of the ucky ones get this dream come true. rest all of us weather its a boy or a girl shatter their dreams leaving whole of the world laughing on them. usualy parents are afraid of sending thier girls to affulent colages because they are afraid of the girl coming back home and asking for that independence which they might not be able to give her as the jat society is still not ready for that kind of a total freedom for the girls.
i would like to finish by saying that the girls do need a better treatment but at the same time they should not forget their duties aand responsibilites of being a good member of the society. my mom used to tell me a quote" agar adami ghar dhan lagay to kissiyon(spade) se bhi nahi dahaya jawe aur jai lugai cahave to sui(needle) te dha dave.

I am still of the same opinion

My dear Raj, i am of the same opinion still because you have not understood the crux of my post. When i say that they are respectworthy...they are on the basis of their being mother, sister and nurturer....i am not refering to the isolated performanes in day to day life. Koe chachi sei...koe bebe....koe tai....they all are respectworthy....and as an entity i respect them..................YOUR TAKE NOW.

Theek hai chaccha. Jaise aapko theek lage. Lekin sab ko yun blindly respect
karna toh aisa ho jata hai jaise woh Jaini log karte hain...mun par patti
baandh kar taaki air ke jerms ko bhi nuksaan na ho.

Mere hisab se toh we should be respectful and courteous to all humans
(male or female) as a matter of protocol. Uske baad toh it is
really a matter of responding person to person.

Anyways, no debate here chachha. Bhavna acchi hai. Manta hun. Aur kucch
nahin toh point banan tahin sahi sae ;).

So resolution kya hua Vinod ?

I am not sure what conclusive resolution you'd expect from a discussion
of this nature.

I argued for economic empowerment, and then there were posts
emphasising issues of "trust" and other "soft" inter personal approaches.

People didn't seem to buy the economic arguments, and I am not sure
what concrete steps can be taken for the latter other than try to follow
it ourselves and speak out when we can so that viewpoints like these
proliferate and trickle down to others in our society.

Other avenues are: writing about it, propogating via the media, school
education and so on. And I guess these are already playing a role. So things
are changing I suppose....but change of this nature is bound to be
gradual.

Hey Vinod Bro:

Acchanak kaam karte karte mere dimaak mein ekdam saalid idea aaya re.
Sunn, you know how you are always going on about conclusive resolutions
and concrete steps. Well this time I got a real concrete step for you !

You are going on and on about doing something for girls/women and at the
same time you are on this "finding a Latina" trip. What a farce !!!

Why don't you, Vinod Sangwan, PhD (to be ?) take on a paanchvi fail (or something)
girl from our rural heartland and turn her future around. What could be a better
way to contribute ? I mean not only will you be uplifting the girl's future
but will be contributing positively to the upliftment of her family. Not only that
but a whole generation of Sangwans will be turned around.

And then you can really work on all the "trust" issues too.

I appreciate (and share :D ) your enthu for the Latinas but when the rubber hits the
road I think we should stand on our side of the fence.

P.S Hey I know some of this might sound like a joke, but there is some seriousness
here. The degree and depth to which to follow this up could be entirely a personal
decision, of course. But it still is a thought. If all of us who have managed to
"uplift" ourselves, take on a partner who could use some upliftment, then
that would be quite a postive chain of influence.

Of course, the flip side to all this might also be that our women who have managed
to uplift themselves will reciprocate and take on a mollad to uplift the poor fellow
as well. This way for every single member of our community who moves up
he/she takes on another. Hmmm...maybe Vinod you could come up with
some formula to show the exponential nature of this social phenomenon.

Hey Ms. Shokeen (Priti ?) and other smart ladies (yes you too Ms. Dangi)...are you willing to take on the burden of the Mollad Jat ? [Poonam, you are excused. With a
PhD ya toh aap mollad ka sar fodogay, ya phir mollad aap ka. So either way,
bad idea. :p]

Hmmm...Not many takers... Are there ?

Hmmm, you caught me! Wasse mein ethinicity mein bhed-bhav pasand nahi karta... jo mille ussi ko "uplift" karne ki koshish karni chahiye, Jat ho ya Latino:) ... Agar mujhe pahle se patta hota ki PhD karne ke baad panchvi fail se shaadi karni padegi to mein khudh ki panchvi mein fail ho jata taaki kisi PhD wali se shaadi karne ka mauka milta... samjhe????... haan, Priti aur Dangi ko suggestion jaroor follow karni chahiye...

vinod
PS: BTW, I believe latino girls are born with an extra spring in their spinal cord (remember Sakira?), thats why its easy to 'uplift', 'side-lift', 'down-lift'.... them. Samjhe??? ya schematic figure draw karke samjhaoo????:)
