Yes, you missed just one WORD. Now please don't quote on my post or soon you'll end up calling me SARCASTIC:D. Better read Anil's mind cuz you can't read mine as there's nothing worth reading. Replying to this would mean you want to drag me into an unpleasant discussion that i don't want:)
Maybe I missed it, but has anyone "advocated" this type of marriage on this thread? If yes, who is he/she?

Bhai knowledge badha le pher,,,,,,UP mein to aur bhi jyaada sakht hain log in maamlo mein,,,,,,aur vahaan ki panchaayto ke farmaan log badi sakhti se paalan karte hain,,,,,,In such matters they act very seriously

Quite interesting replies!

Rajasthan, Punjab and UP have much more substantial Jat population rather than Haryana but there is no KHAP or such thing and hence no such case ( as far as my knowledge).

Did you ever heard about any such case in Rajasthan, Punjab and UP.

In reverse order:
1. I don't care what you want.

2. It is not my fault if someone wants to create an unpleasant situation intentionally. I'd try my best not to create one by trying to stick to the issue and not make any snide personal remarks (It is a koshish and not a vaada and hence subject to my human failings. As an aside, Amitabh Bachhan said in Sharaabi "Koshish karo, vaada nahin kyunki koshishein aksar kaamyab rehti hain, aur vaade aksar toot jaate hain")

3. My question was a genuine one. I am not on JL with a microscope. I could have missed a line slipped in somewhere where someone advocated this type of marriage. I was just asking you who did it out of curiosity. And if no one said it, then you may want to reconsider what you said.

4. You reply apparently suggests that I was advocating it without using the word "advocate". Assuming you meant what I inferred (if my inference is wrong, please ignore the rest of this post), I'd like to point out that I said in pretty much every post that I personally don't agree with such marriages. But I would like to believe that I am mature enough to let those people live peacefully who do things that are not in agreement with my views. It is a very simple point. To consider my opinion as an advocacy of such marriages would be a leap of faith. I'd have had no problem with it had I actually been advocating it, but sadly I was not. Given that context, your suggestion of those who advocate (sic) this to try it in their homes is quite offensive and rather unbecoming of a senior/active member. I didn't find it sarcastic (I actually like witty sarcasm), I found it caustic. Where are the mods :D ??

Vijay Bhai bahut badhiya leekha aapne.....Ghuma Phirakah ke Rohtak ko Blame karo...Kisa TOSHAM ka Blame Rohtak ko??? Tosham toh culturwise or distancewise Hisar/Sirsa ke close hai..rohtak ke nahi
YOH rohtak ka Hooda isa CM bana aadha Haryana toh BHANS DOODH NA DEY TOH BHI ROHTAK NE BLAME KAREN

I don't think that i ever blamed Rohtak for ANYTHING till date. Please read my post again.

I find it totally ridiculous that how this can be linked to the CM of Haryana and where from he belongs to. This is your personal hypothesis.

Bhai knowledge badha le pher,,,,,,UP mein to aur bhi jyaada sakht hain log in maamlo mein,,,,,,aur vahaan ki panchaayto ke farmaan log badi sakhti se paalan karte hain,,,,,,In such matters they act very seriously

Sachin, Maybe i am ignorant about the UP Khaps and thanks for the information.

The subject of my post was not about the knowledge but about the significance of these Khaps wherever they exists.

These Khaps are good for nothing and bad for everything.

my conclusion

well i won’t put my name forward, cos the conclusion has already been drawn very nicely by anil s. dalal. i came on this thread just to poke my nose in btwn… pls. xcuse me, cos it’s been long time tht i’ve been on JL nd this temptation was irresistible. :D

i observed some very nice and rational replies by many worthy members, at the same time there was/were few member(s) (… off course they too also worthy members) who suggested possible solutions as to how to deal with those who defy the rule of land/law. hats off to their suggestions… bang ON… i liked them, i really appreciate them… irrespective. ;););)

one of the phool’s post … http://www.jatland.com/forums/showpost.php?p=205201&postcount=36 was a perfect reply that could have concluded the thread. well tht didn’t happen cos different ppl have different agendas. now the thread is then dragged into another controversy, where another worthy member starts objecting on the usage of language. wonder why ppl hv a habit of putting their words in others mouth. i thank sunita for reviving the thread… Can WORDS express our feelings? at least this gives opportunity to those who missed in to put in their bakar bakar earlier, can do it now. my stand on that thread still holds good… guess i too hv done a lot of bakar bakar on tht thread. ;) it goes w/o mentioning tht there are so many wise ppl out here (off course i’m talking abt our mods) who understand better as to what shud be censored and what not… lets leave the job to them, nd stop this useless hullabaloo.

the best solution, wch off course has been suggested by many members is: that there needs to be some kind of law that prohibits people from same gotra to be married. nd all those चौधरies who think they are abv the law… उनकी मरोड़ और चौधर पहले ख़तम करनी चाहिए... i second to all those suggestions given earlier by worthy member(s)... errrr how to deal with them. :D

do i need to mention that i fall in…
I see only 4 kind of posts here:
a. People vehemently attacking the incident/couple.
b. People opposing the incident/couple but also opposing death threats.
c. People opposing the death threats irrespective.
d. As always some are just here for writing crap! :)

p.s. : kudos to all, who stand by the rule of LAW !

HAhahaha ... tehehehehe tehe tehehe ... Do you watch TV? movies? anything? in North America ... don't you know the condition in jails here?

Lets get back to the topic ... the topic is not teaching kids stuff when they reach puberty, its about death threats. Its the first line in Jitender's opening post -- did you read it? That is why I was trying to address the TOPIC .. I hope you don't work in an occupation that requires an attention span of more than 2 seconds.

I just read your comments because I am your fan. I did not read the opening post and you caught my mistake. you are too smart guy. I admit my mistake and submit my apology for the same.

Now on the Topic, it is hard to stop these death threats unless there is a political will to do so. Police in India is controlled by these political bosses. First of all they (Police) will not register an FIR, if they did (on the direction of court or under pressure) then they will not act on it.

jats at their very best !

if someone can portray a hypothetical movie on this thread, depicting all characters… you’ll find folks :D(worthy members):D swinging their तलवार’s on one to one basis irrespective of their caste (sorry no caste) color nd creed + gender. there are others who r fighting in groups, another category (like me) are swinging their तलवार’s in open air just for the heck of it. there are few, who are just mute spectators… but they too have their fist firm on the तलवार in their म्यान.

true colors of jatland… jats at their very best.

Siddharth its not about being sanctimonious.Yup u r right.when our loved one's life is in question we will change our opinion and i guess its natural and very much normal...For example if any of my close relative kills someone(m sure u will agree that its a crime)then still i wud defend my relative even if he has killed the greatest sage of the world...even if i defend him it won't decrease the degree of crime he has committed....will it?.....m sure Sarpanch who was involved, his family and relatives will support him(may be the whole village)...its human nature u know......and thanks for posting this reply as it made me imagine myself as tht couple's close friend and realize that killing them was wrong.Thay wud have left alone.

All the members here who appear oh so sanctimonious - when one of your loved ones life is on the line ... we'll see how much you talk. If you still talk you have no humanity.

1) it was an arranged marriage nt love.. so my parents were fine with it if didnt work out (there were initial objections only, but wen realized that its futile considering the distance--buddhey gave in).toh koyi panchayat ni thi

2)seem lagney ki to kya baat..beech me nirey gaam hain

3)N well, I thought gaam me bhaichara hota hai ek khoon k hotey hain.
pick a bio. book n have a look at genetically predisposed diseases.

4) nuu sab freedom n rights ki baat karengey to ...total anarchy..
itney behisaab k rights bi nahi hotey..musalamano punjabiyo aali kar di
arr padosi baraat me javengey ak kanyadaan ghalengey;)

Similarly, when your children would come on Jatland and see these archives, they would be surprised why their mom was making a fuss about such a non-issue.[/quote]

Yoginder, I did not mean that post to come out the way it did. My head just exploded when I saw some of the replies. They were from the 19th century. Yours did make a lot of sense as far as upbringing of children is concerned. My apologies for being unduly harsh.

A marriage in same village

Guys may be I am not intellectual or intelligent enough to be part of this discussion, but could'nt stop myself after reading this article

Hello Bro,

I agree with most of the member on the forum that marrying in same village/Gotra is immoral & totally aginst ethics.

Also point put forward by you is very scientific , one of the main reasons for not marrying in same village/gotra is to get rid of genetic problem that can continue elsewise.

I think we need to spread word abt about above mentioned point in our surrounding, so that it can serve both purposes of moral ethics & healthy future generations.

regards

What???????

Eeb ek mere gotra kae Hooda bhai nae likhh diya to mein bhi ude likhh deta hun... J?K!!! ;)

Yaaron, kitt genetics, witch-hunt, mob-instinct, aer "ab antt nazdeek hai' wale chakkaron mein padd rhaye so!...

Remember somewhere back there in the back of the foggy brain that the Indian constitution and it's laws should be respected and followed by all individuals and it's nationals!??! PERIOD...
Aare bhaiyee, Forget what is the law that addresses cousin's and marriages between them or not... This type of mob-lynching, witch-hunts and honor-killings ARE exactly the sort of REASONS that have given OUR Jat society a very bad name everywhere!...

As to the mislead individuals in this case; one bad apple may make the whole cart rotten as the saying goes, but I hardly think that is true in this case; Wouldn't you agree that these are rare, far-apart sorta, wierd/unique cases that may happen in any place, time, society and country (If you are reading the news from everywhere the Incest related case of the Austrian monster, and more nearer to home- the case of the tantrik and a father rapist in Mumbai are exactly such horrendous examples, and the kinds that I am reffering to)
Do you think that all the other remaining individulas that belong to these castes or places, immediately go into some sort of a mass case of self inflicted heart-attack???....

NOW ok, Without trying to put the marriage of two individuals from the same village, as in this case, in that same 'horrendous' category... I am using the simlie to point out that sometimes such , infaituated, irrational, monstorous, ill-thought-out, deranged, mentally unstable cases may happen anywhere and BEFORE we start talking about DOOMsday talk in Jat land take a moment and reflect properly what the proper reaction as lawful individuals should be rather than in this mass knee-jerk, panick attack sorta response...

We may not be any better from those 'Khapp' elders if we warrant out a death sentence (even if online) to every tom, dick and harry who decides to jump into a well...

Come on folks, this... afterall is the 21st century and we are not the Talibans, (no education for women, covered from head to foot, need to be escorted in public by a male relative only, beard neccessary for all men, praying 'whatever 5-zilion' times a day etc. etc. etc. and the list is long)... and BTW they too do it on the name of 'traditions' and the 'holy teachings'.....

Bhai Jitender Hoodaji, aaj kaal kae youth kae gaaye ya bhains sain, jo jidhar bhi kuchh dekhha, ya haanka, chaal denge???.... aare yaar ek nae kar di aer tham saara nein rona-dhona shuru kar diya (rae...baa..raeee... gaye hum jat to eeb, kaal sae bhai-bhena mein shaadi ho ja gee....... mera naam eeeb 'Allah-Rakhha' rakhna padega, hum 'musalmaan' sae kamm na henge!!! sab lule-langdae paeda honge... Raee.... mere yaaar...marrrr gaye...:D ) tsk! tsk!....

I am so very surprised with many people's immediate reaction here worried about what 'may' happen to 'our' traditions because Mr.Looney-tunes married his neighbor (I guess half of us here have the crystal ball of the future to look into) and pass the death sentence rather than sanely question the craziness of anyone taking law in their own hands?
Do you think another such sort of honor killing make us Jats look refined, educated, 'brave' infront of the other Hindu castes, (forget the rest of the world)??????????

You think the Police from Jind-Bhiwani (or wherever this is) etc. trying to protect the couple, or stop the mass murdering, are non-jats???... Are they not trying (I hope so) to do their duty and carry out orders to protect and serve, even though their caste-sensibilities must surely be in flux!?!... Why's that?

And on an ending note- do you think the youths nowadays are any less brainy then you were when you had the good sense to do the right thing on such matters when I am sure no one sat you down and try to 'educate' you on any of these things, like some are promoting should happen right away before acocalypso!
;)

Couldn't agree more. Totally share the sentiment. To be fair though, Jitender Hooda started this thread for a discussion and as far as I remember opposed the 'lynch them' mob mentality. In my opinion, that is the only thing that matters, whether we can respect the law of the land and respect others' right to live their lives as they want (even if we hate that way of life). If his or anyone else's opinion on the marriage is negative, that is perfectly understandable.

thought provoking incidences?

1) Just to give more inputs to discuss it further - recently I was putting up with one Hindu guy from Chennai and another Hindu guy from Bombay. And in their families its quite natural and traditional to marry their real maternal uncle's daughter (sage mama ki ladki). As far as I know, In Haryana, Punjab n UP - hamare yaha to sage mama ki ladki ko bahan hi maante hen n shadiya bhi nhi hoti. Yes, one's cousin brother can marry one's "mama ki ladki". Maayne - ek a gaon me ya parivar me, ek a gaut me - bua ar bhatiji bayee ja sake hen. And "Hindu Marriage Act -1955" is uniformly applicable to all Hindu families in India. So, where are we different from Muslims when it comes to marriages??

2) Do we really think, in our villages "Gaon ki sabhi ladkiyo ko behan kaha aur mana jata hai"? I have seen innumerous incidents in different villages wherein out of same gaut - boys n gals are making luv n fun - irrespective of their moral values. "kisi relation ko kahne or manne me din raat ka pharak hota he". I don't see its truely observed in many a cases - there are 'n' number of incestous abuse cases around, till the time they don't come in limelight - nobody seems to care? Kisliye? Is it depletion of Moral values or lack of proper Education (be it formal education, sex education or any other form of education) or Late age marriages or INDIVIDUALITY, or westernization or any other factor?

But one thing for sure in my opinion - law should protect every citizen and should punish them as well for their wrong doings - panchayats or any other form should stand nowhere to pass the "death warrant" atleast. Panchayats or other types of autonomous governances too have their own importance but they are nobody to take any decision on life/death matters.

Ye un dono ki galti hai.
Humare jat samaj mein jahan Gaon ki sabhi ladkiyo ko behan kaha aur mana jata hai wahan aisa pyar nihayat hi ghrinatmak aur ghatiya karam hai. Is hisab se to gotra bhi hat jane chaiye fir to mama aur bua ki ladki ko bhi biyah lena chaiye. Musalmano mein aur hum mein kya farak reh jayega.
Kaunsi Soch badalna chahte hain?
Yehi ki gaon ki ladkiya behan beti nahi hain. Har gaon mein aisi prem kahani ban-ni chaiye? Ya kal tak jo bhai the wo ristedar ke najariye se ek doosre kodekhe? Apne gaon ka aur apne mama ke gaon ka ek naam hona chaiye?
Aise logo ko sareaam fansi deni chaiye aur hoga bhi yehi aaj maka nahi milega to kal milega.

This thread is getting ugly. Everyone wants to emerge as an idealist because it sounds sexy. very few good points in the thread so far!

lolz..mate I HATE idealism...run miles away sensing idealistic vibes-biggest turn off

its just that we are discussing we shud not marry in apna own ghar-kunba..bhai-behen
too complicated, eh!

????

Finally a comment that goes against the utopian villages...:o

A question for the worthy contributors to this thread- Is it a fair assumption that the couple belonging to the same caste and village will also have the same "Gaut"?

(Or may be I am from a more cosmopolitan village:rolleyes: or I am mis-informed)
Regards
