Media's behaviour in last couple of days have been very immaturish on making Aish-Abhishek wedlock a virtual unofficial 'National-festival'.TRP hungry organisations have been illusive over many issues and overlook so many sensitive developmental issues.India is the country of largest number of news channels in world but its a pity now that they have made glamour and some other second grade comdey programmes as their part of schdeule in place of taking feedback of past news or events.I dnt understand media's wildness over covering Aish-Abhishek marriage when Amitabh Bacchan clearly said that they want to avoid media, A sensible media would have been boycotted the event. Same was the case of Amir Khan wedding where finally some journlaists were beaten up by security and another infamous was of Salman Khan boycotted one news channel and asked to leave a particular news channel present in press conference, insensitive peers of that channel were indifferentat that moment.I'm sorry but this kind of media doesnt seem to playing the role of fourth pillar of Indian Constitution.

Another thing which strikes through this event is spending money at marriage.
According to recent survey wedding industry is growing at 25%.Definatly globalisation has opened various door to commercialisation of traditional customs, marriage being the one.Trend is same in our community as well, though we are considered as attached to land but at marriages we couldn't resist show off by spending huge sum of money.Correct me If I'm wrong.
No doubt marriage is a very importent occasion in a person's and family life.
But if that money could be saved it is going to help new couple in their future.
Recently I heard that Some Panchayat in Haryana has banned carrying of DJ system in fourwheeler during marriage funcrion.Indeed a commendable decision.Marriage is a holy occasion but people behave like they are on moral leave.

MY question to my community ," Does it sound wise to spend heavily on marriages as far as we are concerned"? If NO, Kindly suggest some measures.

Bhai Samar

I dont give a damn to these higher society publicity gimmics thro' expansive marriages n ballah ballah....and to be hell with today's Media....they r like rolling stone!!

BUT, gud question asked, as for me spending heavily on marriage is sheer wastage of money...I personaly dont like to go in marriage ceromany unless its really imp. ..... but as par my thinkin instead of this expanditure we rather go for a simple, less show off marriage ceromany and utilize the remainin money ( the money saved ) in goin romantic places for honeymoon or should invest it for future security!!!

Rock on
Jit

Marriage is once in a life

you are right but I am not agree with you that there should be less expenditure in marriages...Why it should be less...Its personal choice and its depends upon individual's way of thinking..Marriage is once in a life time affair so it should be totally full of show off and celebrations...
Bhaai laddu bhi dhol- bajje ke saath khaane main maja aata hai...Otherwise what will be differnce in marriage or other functions.
No one knows what happen next in life...So one should enjoy each moment of marriage...

Crazy Kiya Re..... !!!

Media behaves crazy becuase people are fanatic, they wanna see it, then why media ll fail to encash such opportunity. If there are no takers of such marriage videos, why TV channels ll show them ? Thou a limited class like us will make a fuss about media's failing responsibilities, their duties, but perhaps majority wants to see such glamour laced sensational live coverages. Otherwise such playing and re-playing of Abhishek Bachchan's Barat reaching at Prateeksha serve them no other purpose than boosting their TRPs. And this is not happening for the first time. Similar was the show in Vikram Chatwal-Priya Sachdev wedding, very recently in Arun Nayar-Liz Hurley's n when Brad Pitt-Angelina were shooting in India. And now to this is the wedding of the year or I shud say wedding of the decade, the Wedding of the most eligible bachelor among celebrities and the most b'ful lady(thou I differ), so the hullabaloo would also be no. 1. Paparazzi is nothing new... bt, the way Indian media gets frenzy, thats ridiculous. I feel that even thou' media has a self-interest, that is, to boost sales by titilating senses and causing sensationalism... it should not shed its sensibilities and responsibilities all together .

Now the 2nd part, marriages have also become a designer concept now a days. Designer dresses, designer sangeet, desinger food, designer shamianas, and even the designer guest list...aur pata nahin kya kya......!!!! Fir itna sab kuch designer hoga to it wud require a fat pocket.

Anyways I m against of such false show off,,, celebrations are fine, so are upto a limit expenses, after all this is once in a time affair n the biggest day in ones life, so should nt kill the desires totally. but shud go according to one's pocket. Things can be managed beautifully in limited funds as well. Afterall the feelings and realtions are important , not the show off !!!

ha ha ha masaledani .... bhai naveen aachi kahi ... par bhai Yatinder ka byah te ho liya ... par taja taja hai ibbe ... :) tum purane-bujurg hoe aud bata sako ho ya baat te ... kit tun chat pe gham seke ja hai ...

Dear Samar

The issue is serious. Media is playing many times a very irresponsible role as in this marriage.

Marriage should be simple and gracious. This show off necessarily should be condemned.
But Samar ji you can make the people aware about plus and negative points of an issue but you cannot pass a fatwa on any issue as is being done by so called panchayats many times and now regarding ban on DJ

Dr Neelam has also raised the issue in right perspective. But one should spend according to one's pocket means that what Abhishek is doing is right. These type of marriages play a role model role.

once i put up a thread that in marriages there should not be any dowary. but to my utter despair none of our youth came forward for such marriage.

Yes yu are right Dr Dahiya Sir, I didn't elaborate it clearly. What I meant was for those who can not afford much expenses but forcefully have to bear this burden due to the expectations of boy's side. Celebrity marriages are a totally different affair. No comparision with them, but those who are not so opulent, and are from high or middle high class, they also try to make marriage a show not much less these days. And such superfluous marriages rise the expectations of each n every boy n their family. And then it puts an unwanted pressure on all others, specially on the parents of marriageable daughters, who can not afford that much.

So I mean for everyone marriage should not be an extravaganza, it should be simple, sober yet elegant n graceful without putting this excessive burden beyond anyones limits.

Bhai media ne kuch na kuch te chaahiye hi karan ki liya. Eeb Cricket mein te haar ge te ude te eeb kuch mile nhi te chalo is byaah ka hi dhindora peeto! :D

Dont care how much people spend on marriages, its their decision... as long as they dont block the roads and play that loud blaring music all night.... but everybody knows that is bound to happen. I just hope that some of these fools get so pi**ed drunk, get alcohol poisoning, they need to go to the hospital to get their stomach pumped but cannot get there in time because there are other baraats blocking the roads..... and if they are lucky and they make it to the hospital.... the line is so long because there are other baraatis waiting to get their stomach's pumped.... some goofy s**t huh??
Thank God they have the 4 wheeler DJ's now - those bandwallas were horrible - they could'nt play even if their life depended on it.
I have'nt been to a baraat lately - I don't know if our boys have acquired any new dance moves - the last baraat I remember, the boys were doing sapela-naagin dance, the handkerchief being used as 'been'. The little dance space that is created by the baraatis is a dangerous place for small kids... its easy to loose a few teeth or get you ribs poked in by the elbows of the sapera-naagin couples.
There is bad press and good press. Don't read /watch bad press.

Dr Neelam, I tried to think another way over what media show people, remember timeof Doordarshan news, people were same and are same but satellite news channels have designed or better say created by continously airing pro-sensalisation things.Same time could have been invested in making people aware about so many things.I feel they lack of constructive journalism when it comes to making it major force in their amunition, rather they rely on entertainment and hence coming generation making bollywood and criket stars their hero. Its media's fallout that real heros like Navin Gulia,Bunkar Roy,Sandeep pandey, rajender Singh(list is endless) doesnt share a bite and if share they dnt become breaking news or a matter of debate for motivation.

Sumit! even keeping one self away from TV doesnt seem a solution, things wont improve.Sid! good press or bad press but how much good or bed , its in hand of policy makers of journalism. There should be some check at one point in a democracy because its for people, they just cant go illuding public.

Coming on, marriage over-spending issue, I appreciate Jit's idea as its very much practical. The purpose of raising Aish-Abhishek issue here was to throw some light how our middle class belly would inspire from it.Their hard earned money would sparked and fuse in show off.Do you think Yatinder, this inspiration is a good practice.?Govt cant put any demarkation over it as its very much social and family concern.Dr Dahiya we have Jit in the row for no dowry and no show off line as first. Count me second.I'm up for 5Rupess stamp paper marriage.

Sid, those guys have always weird steps(no effect of DJ or bin on their creativity) that also include some absurd gestures towards female counterparts. After boozing, issues are more or less same --"Roosa- Manni".

Dr Dahiya is counting...who's next?

hi everybody...i m new to this forum..n i believe that this ash-abhishek wedding is just business for media coz they sell wot people readily buy..so the problem is not exactly with media but with the mindset of people..its really unfortunate that these movie stars who r nothing but highly overpaid entertainers are todays youth's icons...n coming to the expenditure on marriage part..i would say that it depends from family to family..i mean as far as u r not under any pressure to spend n u can afford it there is nothing wrong but if u r forced to spend then its not desirable.. personally speaking i dnt believe in this extravaganza n i believe that marriages should be a simple affair but then there may be people who want it to be a big show...so u cant dismiss there sentiments completely

Dear samar

Thanks for your offer and Jit. really encouraging and as you said I am waiting for the list to swell.

Another point which many times bothers me is bout the Media. I think a deep conspiracy to derail our youth from realism through a package of Sex, Violence and Drugs. Even Ekta kapoor serials are very misguiding as far as
men and women healthy relationship in the society is concerned.

Samar Bhai
Ram Ram,

Well, first I dont have any plans to gettin married...as I'm single n happy and all my life I wanna be free as a wild bird!!

But, in worst case scenario ;) :p due to Destiny's wild move...If I have to marry then believe me it'll be a very simple court marriage or arya-samaj marriage kinda ceremony....waise bhi no matter how much money u waste on wedding ceremonies....if u dont register ur marriage it wont be valid

Waise Samar bhai....ur idea of 5 Rs Stamp is really good!

But, close frens and family members ki party banti hai so vo to deni padegi :D

Rock on
Jit

Look at the other side of coin too..Lavish marriages actually give job opportunities to so many folks - caterers, tentwallahs, band groups, fashion designers, cloth merchants and so many people from all walks of life..if this expenditure is stopped, imagine the impact it will have on so many households..

If someone rich has earned money, why shouldn't he spend it the way he likes. Afterall, everyone spends as per his own status..a rikshawallah goes to cinema to watch movie though its a luxury for him or for that matter we go n spend ~1000 rs. easily in a restaurant though we can enjoy dal-chawal at home and give 900 rs. to a poor family but do we do that? No..then why are we asking rich ppl to spend less and care for poor. Of course, I like to give donations to poor but its my wish if I will not save my hard earned money everytime for poors. End of the day, everyone needs to fend for themselves and everyone is poor in comparison to so many ppl. So, luxury my friends is an extremely relative term.

As for the impact of lavish marriages on psyche of would-be groom families, its all in the mind. Everyone has their own social thinking and that would not change by reading about a $2 billion marriage in newspapers. BTW, I love watching such news - who doesn't want to know whats happening in other houses, especially the super-rich people houses - they give me inspiration to imagine more :)
