Baba Ramdev to float political party

Making profits for a charitable organization is not bad

I have seen lot of posts accusing the Ram Dev's organization of making money. What I see is that making profits, for a charitable organization, is not bad. This is stated in a recent Forbes article (Wisdom to CEO's) Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji in answere to Venugopal Dhoot's question . The article is available at ibnlive.in. com /printpage.php?id=105999&section_id=7 (remove spaces). The same has also been copied below for your ease.

This is a bit out of context. However, it became essential to answer all the critics who say that Baba Ram Dev's organization is making money. - The money is essential for growing the teachings. It is everywhere, be it a temple, church, Madarsa or Gurudwara. Charitable societies/organizations which did not made money have vanished.

Forbes India: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's wisdom to CEOs

When every breath of your body is focused on creating wealth it takes an infinity to realise the expanse of the breath itself. Journeys across such an abstract expanse need a guide whose spiritual GPS is never offline.

But then Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a man of God like no other. His powerful innovation of Sudarshan Kriya from the ancient system of Pranayam has calmed many a burdened mind. It is hard to combine the commanding heights of spirituality with the mundane lowlands of everyday practical living the way Sri Sri has managed to do.

So when a club of extremely wealthy men of practical world needed to understand how to go beyond all the wealth, Sri Sri was the obvious choice.

We seemed to have hit the hot button because questions from men of Mammon flowed freely. To make sure the answers had depth, we picked four questions that seemed to be most fundamental and intricate. But that was till Sri Sri answered them; after that they were blindingly obvious.

We are realising more and more that society has a significant stake and role to play in the growth of every individual and organisation. It then follows that some part of the wealth built by the individual or organisation owes its origin to society. In a steady state scenario, this issue may not be difficult to sort out — one could follow the Islamic Zakat approach and give a fixed percentage to charity or to society. But when it comes to estate planning or leaving behind a legacy through a will, there would arise a question, where your guidance and views will be enlightening. What proportion of a rich person’s wealth should one bequeath
to society?”

A: The Dharmashastras advise a man to divide wealth in five portions:

  • One portion is used for spiritual and religious purposes.
  • One portion for charity and society.
  • One portion for the growth of the wealth.
  • One portion for oneself and one’s own comforts.
  • One portion for one’s family.
  • The most intelligent thing would be to undertake all the charitable works during one’s lifetime itself. However, when you write a will with the wealth that is left to you, definitely give a substantial portion for charitable work.
Venugopal Dhoot, Chairman & MD, Videocon
What is the best contribution one can make to a better society? Make billions, spend billions, or give away billions?
A: The best way is to do both: To make billions, spend a little less, save the rest and give away! Twenty per cent of your earnings should be earmarked for charity. However, charity should be self-sustainable. That is, it should create more wealth rather than perpetuating the cycle of poverty and dependence. In this sense, the best form of charity would be providing quality education for children and more importantly, building a good character in them.

In the 11th chapter of the Bhagawad Gita, Lord Krishna said, “Win the war with enemies and enjoy a prosperous empire.” How can a businessman be altruistic and yet follow this piece of advice? Is there a way to resolve this riddle?

Krishna’s advice was not for a recluse, but addressed to a prince. The Gita should not be dismissed as a text for people who are not in the world. In fact, the Gita is of no use for people who are retiring from the world.

The entire Bhagavad Gita is focused on the prince who had to shoulder a huge responsibility, encounter complex situations and solve complicated human relations to make the country productive. Any business empire has to perform all these functions: They have to manage human resources; resolve conflicts.

One cannot be emotional and say: “I don’t want to compete with anybody. The world of business is always a struggle — a fight. Your weapons are speculation, bidding, negotiation, branding, marketing, pricing, innovation etc. These are the weapons for you to fight the business wars and you should fight it to your complete satisfaction. If it does not turn out to be viable, naturally you lose your fight. (Non-viability, heavy competition, lack of HR, labour problems) You can’t do business with a charitable mindset. Charity and business should be kept separate altogether. However when it comes to enjoying the fruits of your business, you should have a charitable mind. You must keep aside a portion for charity.

If one has faith and believes God exists, how important is it to pray, meditate, etc.?
A: Prayer is asking God what you want for yourself or thanking Him for what you have received. Meditation is listening to God’s will. If you believe in God, then you will definitely want to connect and communicate with Him. The way to communicate with Him is through prayer and meditation.

“My principles in life are as follows:

  • All spirituality lies in our deeds and empathy towards others.
  • All deeds should be with practical integrity and means should be more important than the ends.
  • More than anything else in life, I work for a sense of achievement, which I judge and am not bothered about what
    others think.
  • I have far lesser wealth than people think, but far more than I need. Wealth also has a purpose in life.
  • I realise that all things in life including wealth, success and beauty are transient and temporary. Therefore I never take them for granted, nor am I overwhelmed or over-influenced by them.
  • The divine is the giver of all wealth, and along with the wealth, has cast upon us a responsibility that as far as possible must be used for a good purpose.
  • I would seek your divine views and thoughts on my beliefs and principles of life.
A: What you have mentioned are some moral and ethical values. Spirituality is recognising that you are a part of the universal spirit and that there is no ‘Other’. Spirituality is recognising the truth that a Divine Power is managing the creation and your own life. No doubt integrity, charity, compassion etc. are all virtues which are essential by-products of spirituality. How calm and dynamic you are at the same time, how compassionate and shrewd you are at the same time indicates the depths of your spirituality.

.
Yes. Religion and its superstitious outfits have already been contributing a lot and need more money for pursuing their activities. Islam and its teachings have already caused havoc by demolishing WTC towers, brutally rampaging two hotels in Mumbai on 26/11/2009, bomb-blasts after regular intervals and continue to be on a spree killing innocent people in the name of Jehad enunciated by their religious leaders - the Mullahs. We have already evidenced the side effects of religious fanaticism spearheaded by the sacred sants like Bhinderwale and his followers in Punjab forcing the government to seek military's help to contain the Sants through operation blue star. Our Hindu priests and Pujarins have never been far behind in spreading mistrust and superstition while playing subservient to the blood-suckers of humanity and misguiding the people throwing them into domain of ignorance. Quite recently, the myth of their being 'Brahamcharis" or Braham Kumaris has also been busted by the bugs of technology.

After having a cursory glance on other stuff copied and pasted by you , I would like to add that the persons like Dhoot or Avdhoot and other guys are no authorities on this subject and their utterances hardly matter and absolutely out of context.

But having said that, I respect Shri Ramdev ji, apparently a good human being, for his contribution in improving the health standards in India and his contribution cannot be nullified by his aspirations to join politics. Being a citizen of a democratic country, he has got every right to be in politics and also to raise his party. At the same time, we also have a right to comment on his moves by putting him under a powerful scanner and question his capabilities to administer and conduct such a complex and vast country simply through the brigade consisting of mainly raw stuff without sufficient knowledge of complex and robust Indian polity. The naivety of such newly christened politicians can prove to be even more dangerous for the country. In the present era of coalition, it is not only difficult but absolutely impossible to bring under one umbrella the huge mass of people with striking contrast in terms of religion, caste, regionalism, disparity etc. To me it seems to be a Utopian proposition. Moreover, his pronouncements tend to be quite ambiguous at times without clearly signalling his stance on economic reforms. He has been vehemently opposing all foreign concepts, goods which, inter alia, include foreign investment and technology. How far this concept will be digested by the modern youth desperately striving to acquire metrosexual identity and a new status by having access to all the trendy zing things, more and more exposure to the western culture, hollywood cinema, music by likes of Britney Spears, Jennifer lopez and want to shake their hips like Shakira etc. etc. His followers may advise him to spell his stance on this. It looks he is not showing his true colours and may even strike a deal with BJP at appropriate time or even may jump to their bandwagon. No doubt he has already acquired immense clout -thanks to our corrupt leaders and politicians as well as the religious mind-set of common man and may wreck the BJP's ship. Good luck to Baba if he can make it feasible through yogic methods.

PM, CM sit at my feet, I need no power: Ramdev ( Now looks like he is a politician)

BETTIAH: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday said he did not nurture any political ambition.

“Mukhyamantri ho, Pradhanmantri ho, Rashtrapati hon, sabhi mere charnon me baithte hain. Jo singhasan mere charnon par baithta ho, main us singhasan par kaise baithunga (Whether it’s the CM, PM or President, they all sit at my feet. How can I sit on the throne which rests at my feet)?’’ said Ramdev.

Though, all yoga asanas were already there, no new invention by Ramdev, but certainly he attracted public attention well & marketed yoga well and definitely he has socceeded, so even 100% factual statement against him, will be ignored by majority of us. But my personal knowledge about him & assessment says he is a very very stounch yadav, very good at making money not only for self but for all his relatives & leftover for yadav community and no good or bad than all such drametic Babas. My personal openian, niether he is good for Hindu religion nor for the country or our community

Media, especially TOI reporting is very doubtful. There had been enough reports by TOI to conclude that the TOI group wants to create a particular perception in public, to suit it's own business objectives.

It’s quite disheartening that educated people are falling in this trap. Ramdev, a person with such self control and discipline could not have said this. I believe it is definitely a biased reporting that has reported the statements out of context.

TOI is not a paper that you can be relied upon.

My dear, Arvind, I also feel that ramdev may not have said as reported, but dear, niether he has self control nor he is disciplined person, like any Baba his back is equally black. remember, all Dharam Gurus of any religion, are biggest enimy of the society/mankind and Ramdev is no different. If you get some time, go and see the reality about him.

Dear Fateh,
Can you share your personal knowledge and assessment about him so that we will also get the opportunity to know more about him. No doubt he has made Yoga and Pranayam very popular and marketed every thing like a clever business man. I am really looking forward for your assessment to be shared.

Or dear waite for some time more the whole world would know about Ramdev also.

Brothers, are these Babas including ramdev, worth discussing on this forum, let ramdev become anything or stay away it really doesnot matter much, these people are same.

Well your opinion is respected. Nothing to feel bad about it. However, could you let us know as to which specific instances/reasons behind your opinion? It would be informative for people like me, who do not have the privilege/chance of knowing the man from close quarters.

For me, even if he has made huge money, I would still consider him worthy as at least he made money by improving people's health and reviving the once ailing Ayurveda (Sanskrit: आयुर्वेद; Āyurveda, the "science of life"). There are many more people who are making money by exploiting people or risking their lives. Tell me any other person who has helped so many people in improving their lives?

My dear Arvind, A direction can be indicated to people who have eyes of their own to see, my humble submission at post no 90 still holds good, you are welcome, secondly, my perception may not match yours, so you keep your openion unshaken, in any case positive thinking is always batter than my criticism, thus ignore my openion, you also. one small example, go and see what is being done by a very close friend of mr ramdev, the another yadav baba at Astal bhor.

Dear Fateh, it is obvious that you know his background more as you come from his native place and obviously you must be knowing more about him. I agree that he has made a lot of money by smartly marketing the yoga packages and all but on the other hand people have been benifitted by his Breathing techniques and Yogasans. Somehow he is more respectable for me as compared to the other so called Babas. I believe you must be saying those things on some personal experience, will be better if you share that with us so that we can get the real picture.

Dear dependra, I agree that in comperision, sofar, ramdev certainly seems to be batter and there is no doubt, he has contributed on making people health concious motivating them to do some physical excercises. dear he also enjoys all those traits of babas what else you want to know and if you donnot know traits of babas than be happy, donot bother about ramdev also, as submitted earlier, waite things will come in front of people in due course of time, I am bit elderly person and do not wish to write more on the post, you are again welcome to visit us any time, you will be able to see or hear many facts about this man also. let us talk some more useful in life rather waisting our time on babas. wise man needs only indication, be happy, we must give him regards for his contribution.

My dear malik go to Astal Bhor and please see, what is happening, in short, the big Nose of jats is chopped and being chopped every day, all big jats of haryana, specially rohtak including sh Bhupender singh, the CM, watching helplessly.

We people can only talk, but do nothing for the good of the community

With warm regards
