Baghpat panchayat issues diktat for women ..

LUCKNOW: In a country where women have served on the country's highest Constitutional posts, the fairer sex is being made to live the Taliban way in Aasra village of Baghpat district of UP, barely 50km from the national capital.
The village panchayat has put a total ban on women under 40 years from visiting local markets, using cellphones and being seen in public without their head covered. Ironically, when approached by the media persons, the women residents of the village first supported the ban, but when probed further there were many voices of protest.
The panchayat has also issued instructions that anyone resorting to love-marriage will face a total boycott from community and those found helping them out will be dealt with similarly. The panchayat will also make efforts to ensure that such couples are kept outside the village. The panchayat is of the view that such restrictions will help ensure that young boys and girls with 'naive' minds are not driven towards "filmi love affairs" and spoil their life.
The contention of the panchayat is that the use of cellphones by young boys and girls has led to a sharp increase in instances of eve-teasing and elopement in the region. "This unrestricted communication is the main cause of such objectionable union of the naive minds who take steps which brings ridicule and embarrassment to their parents and their communities," said a panchayat member refusing to identify himself on grounds that the media was raking up the issue unnecessarily. "The panchayat has decided not entertain the media on the issue," he said.
About the restriction on women below 40 venturing out to the weekly markets with no male or elderly family member accompanying them, another panchayat member said: "You people are twisting the turning the things at your convenience. Our belief is that if you want to go out for some genuine reason then what is the harm in being accompanied by an elderly, be it your parents or any other family member?" he questioned.

Whatever may be the religion followed by the villagers, question is -> why such restriction only for girls/women?
Aur kya musalmaan hone se ladki ki ijjat kam ho jati hai?? ki musalmaan ki ladki chedi thi isliye ye sab fatve thik hai??

Ye btaane ki jarurt nahi ki ladke jab kisi ladki ko chedte hai to uska religion pooch kar nahi chedte. Mai pahle bhi ek dhaage me is baare me likh chuka hu ki vaastvikta kya hai (shayad wo dhaaga ladki ke vastr-dharan ke upar tha ki ladkiya kapde aise pahnti hai ki ladke chede).

Badi baat ye hai ki media is baat ko sirf ek do din bta kar chup ho jyegi.. kyuki vote bank hai bhot bda ye. Haryana me hoti to roj pahli khabar bnaate..

भाई दीपक मैं आप के नज़रिए से पूरी तरह सहमत हूँ और सामाजिक तौर से ये फैसला अनुचित है | मेरा कहने का तत्प्रिया ये था कि ईन के मामलों में अगर हम नुक्ताचीनी करते हैं तो ईसे धार्मिक रंग दे दिया जाता है और धर्म के अंदरूनी
मामलों में दखलंदाजी करार दे दिया जाता है ना कि समाज से जोड़ कर देखा जाता है | अगर ये ही फरमान किसी हिन्दू गाँव
कि पंचायत ने सुनाया होता तो अब तक तो हंगामा खडा हो चुका होता |


पुलिस ने महिला आयोग व मीडिया के दबाव में आ कर कुछ एक्शन लेने कि कोशिश की तो बबाल खडा हो गया और आखिर में बंदी बनाए गए 2 पंचाय्तियों को भी छोड़ना पडा |

I have seen it on TV. Every one criticise the Khap panchayat but no one thinks why they have to take such steps. I have village background and I know how difficult it is to control eve teasing in big villages. I have heard Chitambaram saying :In democracy this cannot happen:. If his Police force can provide some protection to women against such acts no one would be forced to take such steps. He should first look into that. Of course the khaps decision should be critised if they are against the public will but what about the decision which have mass public support? it is not related to hindu or muslim it is just a decision taken due to the lack of law and order and is of course unfortunate that we have to take such decisions because our society and police cannot provide protection to our women.

I do not understand as to why such blind/uneducated/unjustified/stupid directions came from panchayat, jats are not muslims, they are quite liberal, their ladies are quite strong, the community is strong, I donot think any body has courage to trouble our ladies. What ever the cause may be, this type of measures are no answer, in fact it will spoil the situation further. We must educate our ladies, trained them to defend themselves, men must ensure that our ladies are safe, give good sanskar to children. I am feeling ashamed to hear the news and being head of our khap, I am finding difficult to answer people, Bad, very bad.
